A mute could talk after having the demon driven out (Matthew 9:32).
A "demon-possessed" man who was blind and mute is cured by Jesus (Matthew 12:22).
A demon caused seizures (epilepsy) in a boy (Matthew 17:14-18).
A group of spirits caused a man to be insane (Mark 5:1-13).
A spirit crippled a woman (Luke 13:11).

To you, they're completely ridiculous, because you've already decided that, before you even gave it a chance. I find many aspects of science to be logical. Because I have an open mind, and I give things a chance. I'm not saying you have to believe what I believe. I'm simply saying, "This is why I believe it."

This translation is from the New American Standard Bible, " Then God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years; 15 and let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. 16 God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the night; He made the stars also. 17 God placed them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, 18 and to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness; and God saw that it was good. 19 There was evening and there was morning, a fourth day. But it was clearly stated that the light was already there. He appointed the sun and moon out of the light. Basically what he did was take the light and said, "Ok, here's the sun. You govern the day, and here's the moon. You govern the night. I just made a sun and moon out of light. So the light being there, vegetation was able to grow.

Well, being religious doesn't kill people.
#668 - anon (08/09/2012) [-]
I didn't say it did - but (in some countries) it does. There's no denying it has a negative impact on social structure by allowing people to succumb to a belief system they have no control over. Religious establishment has the right to say things like "don't treat gays nicely" or, in some countries, "hang them", because people want to believe something for their own personal benefit, and that's wrong.

You being spiritual doesn't kill people, but succumbing yourself to a religious establishment such as Christianity, has effect on other people's lives, and that's not fair; because whether you agree with the establishment's views or not, ticking that "I'm a xyz" box on the census gives them power to influence things in a way determined by how they interpret, in a 2000-year-old book, he unreasoned, unexplained, and frankly unfair teachings of a pre-historic, nobody of a God.

Well, some people take religion to a whole new extreme, but for the most part, religion is great for society. The salvation army is a Christian establishment, that helps homeless people by running a soup kitchen, and providing shelter.
#670 - anon (08/09/2012) [-]
Atheists donate to charities too. The benefits of religion can be achieved without it, meaning that the negative effects can be avoided if it is discarded.

The sun was the light. It says he made the heavens and the earth, and than said, "Let there be light." And he called the light day, and the dark night. So there's your answer.
