I was an IT2, spent my days in the server room as an administrator with a heavy coat on, all while everyone else is working the flight deck in heavy gear sweating their asses off, or the minions below decks sweating their asses off around steam/reactor shit.

Quite a nice couple of deployments

**deserthawk rolled image**No disrespect by this, but complete disregard for his own life and dying is stupid. Good on those that risk there life out there protecting there nation family and friends. but just throwing your life out. i believe a quote was " No one has won a war by dying for there country" props to him for saving his comrades and having quick thinking to minimize the blast.

Completely agree pal, if there's a safer option with the same effect why take the risk?

I'm actually a Navy vet, and had no idea what the requirements were for the upper rack "blue" medals. But that makes perfect sense.

So then why not best medal then?
#98 - tobloi (07/25/2016) [-]
Because he thought about his own life before jumping on the Grenade, by using his daysack as a bit of protection, if he had show complete disregard to his own life it would have been a VC also the fact that it wasn't actually in the face of enemy but rather a trip wire had been triggered and a grenade had gone off, two things you need for VC is to show disregard to your own safety and to be in the face of the enemy. Was still brave to jump on a grenade to save your pals though, he has written a book about his tour aswell.
