If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.

pretty sure you have no idea what you're talking about
it's fun to assume stuff I guess

Not really. Its a great job.

Also because the oil fields are almost all men... theres significantly less drama.

Can I apply to become oil fieldernerthingy-dude without any education for it ?
#11 - verycoolcat (08/27/2016) [-]
Not until oil prices recover and companies start hiring again.

The lowest position on a rig is called a roustabout and it pays on the low end... $50k a year.

They'll put you through roustabout training if you find a company hiring. However you can also pay for roustabout training yourself and many companies will hire you on because you actually paid for it yourself.

HOWEVER.... most oil fields are cutting back and laying off as of now

Well, I suppose NEET and excessive masturbation is just as good as having money.

Don't get me wrong. Its not an EASY job, it does give you a lot of physical activity, but its a really good job.

I like physical jobs, I had a job using chainsaw to cut up tree trunks and the branches of already cut trees in prison and I thought it was best job out of all I had there, others were pretty boring which sucked ass.

Its not a field recovering well honestly, thanks to green tech.

Look at Tesla, they're literally so fucking backlogged on all their vehicles, they've been opening sprawling new factories every year that they cant meet production, which has helped drive down costs as well.

Batteries are getting better, working fusion reators are projected for testing in 15 years. Locheeds got models for one that fits on a pickup, and could power a city the size of NYC, ready in 20 at their own current rate.

If you want a good job, oil isn't the best. Not even for plastics, anymore.

I mean, I'm not saying its a viable job market, it's just not stable nor has all that great of job security.

I may be a bit biased but Engineering is doing fantastic right now and it's outlook, universally, is growing quite possibly exponentially. Technology is the same. Any STEM field looks fantastic right now, honestly.

Oil will always be necessary.

Materials need to be shipped from overseas. Generators still need fuel. Plastic still needs to be produced. Oil is an extremely profitable area of employment regardless of green technology because when it comes down to it, despite your green views... oil is the cheapest power producer and still quite profitable.

Oil will be necessary for things like plastics, but even then, plastics are becoming more and more recyclable.

It's still profitable because much of the planet's industry relies on it, but it's becoming extremely unstable, right down to the foundation, thanks to various technological advances. Things like Titanium Oxide Batteries, Tesla Motors growing exponentially every year for the last ten, Fission Reactors becoming smaller and smaller, the Navy releasing documents on methods to create Hydrogen fuel from seawater, which turns out, is a lot more efficient than gasoline and jet fuel.

Oil is still cheap, and is profitable, but the US is seeing a sudden and massive shift away, or at the very least, is seeing the setting of 90% of the dominos needed in order to topple the entire industry.

Even in China of all places, they're trying to make a massive, and I mean MASSIVE shift towards being straight Nuclear because the Communist Party is intent on competing with the US in terms of military power and logistics, part of this is getting a more efficient method of energy production and the Chinese just happen to be sitting on massive reserves of Uranium 235, which goes in hand with many of China's Nuclear corps taking heavy investment into the technology needed to recycle Uranium 235 back into 237 Fuel, which can create a 95% return of usable Fuel.

When I said Oil is unstable, it wasn't an opinion. Ask any economist or any Engineer, they'll say the same thing. Its not. And China and Russia\, as well as many banks know this considering Gold is being bought by the ton.

Powerful people in the world know Oil won't last for much longer. Technological advancement growing exponentially, far, far faster than what was projected 10, 20 and 25 years ago, shows just how quickly and how unsure we can be of Oil's stability in the future.

Its not all bad.

I mean, shit tons of derelict oil rigs will be available for purchase so my dreams of creating an Outer Haven can become an actual possibility.

I've felt the same as you friend, I was in a real low place. Suicide was on the cards and I felt like I had no one. Until a random FunnyJunkie messaged me and offered someone to talk to, this guy helped me so much because he knew exactly what I was going through and he just offerred to listen to me. The funny thing is, I don't even know his name. It goes to show that even if you feel as if you're alone out there in the real world, there's always someone out there who knows how you feel. I think that's why I love this place so much, it's much more than just a website, it's a community and even a family at some points. Sure there are trolls and assholes, but when that one person comes along and knows what you're going through, it shows you're not alone. There are 7 billion people out there, so don't let yourself think for a second that you're alone. I don't know you but I'm sure you're a great person and I can promise that the way you're feeling is only temporary, you will meet your soul mate - you just have to look for them.
