Mental illnesses don't necessarily stop you from doing shit. They can make you think ridiculous things, and sometimes act on them. For example, some psychopath killer might think he's the chosen of Hoopleebooplee, Spawn of Boopty, and he goes out about his daily life until his messed up conscious (Hoopleebooplee) tells him "You see that chick? Yeah. Kill her, it'll be great."

And I'm not certain how somebody feeling like the other gender is going make them do dangerous or harmful this like murdering somebody. It's harmless to both them and others around them.

That's what I meant. Obviously, being schizophrenic tends to impede you from living a normal life. And there's less extreme examples- for instance, I get treated for depersonalization disorder, which impairs my social skills and ability to work, and frequently causes paranoid thinking. Somebody who has clinical depression is not going to be able to work to the best of their abilities, and so on.

The thing is, I find it ridiculous that identifying as a different gender makes you mentally ill. Eccentricity and mental illness are not the same thing. Until it's in the DSM, I'm calling bullshit on any claims of transgender people being mentally disturbed. I'm not saying it couldn't be a sign of some mental problems, like identity issues or trauma. But it's a big logical leap to treat it as an illness all on it's own.

See, I'm fine with it. I'll identify by what I am- a man with a dick.

Let the others identify how they please. Just don't burn me on the stake when I don't guess your "tri-gendered asexual/pansexual dolphincat" identification.

Well because those people (at least a certain percentage of them) shriek and shout and demand that we accommodate their delusional fantasies. A person feeling a certain way is one thing, but that person demanding that all of society change to accommodate them is the epitome of ridiculousness. So these people need to be told no.

Tolerating mental illness instead of preventing and treating it is the wrong way to go.

I don't see how it's a mental illness. I'm pretty sure they know what they have between their legs. They just choose to act and call themselves the other gender.

For something to be qualified as a mental illness, it has to be something that impairs your daily functioning; it has to be something that stops you from going about your life. Grossing or freaking some people out doesn't make it a mental illness.

The only reason I care about shit like this is because you say one wrong thing and these people go fuckin' berserk. Identify yourself however the fuck you want, but I'll be damned if I have some ugly fuckin' chick get down my throat because I called her a girl because I don't know what the fuck she identifies as, so I went with what I already knew. Not saying anything about short-haired tomboys. I think they're cute.
User avatar #92 - thessalonaki (07/02/2014) [-]
I totally agree, it's unreasonable for somebody to yell at you because you weren't aware what they identify as. I haven't had a lot of experience with transgender people though since I live in a small (mostly farming) town.
