Dude...READ before you post:

"I'd personally never hunt a lion - lions aren't very tasty, and I'd hunt only to take food."

I DO eat meat... ** a lot of meat.** I have Crohn's, and meat is my safe-haven. BUT... I actually put my money where my mouth is, and buy the quality local stuff, fed on grass and not sick-ass grains in nasty CAFO stock-pens.

Just because I feel that killing animals is sick doesn't mean I'm a vegetarian - that's a total B.S. straw-man argument.

How can that philosophy possibly work, you ask? It goes something like this:

> If you spend any amount of time around animals, you will realize they DO have 'feelings', even if vague or 'smaller' than those of humans.
> Consuming the flesh of other creates necessitates killing those creatures, which is a sad thing.
> I figure the best way to respect the fact that you are DESTROYING something in order to consume it is to 1) make sure it has a good life, 2) kill it quickly and respectfully, and 3) use every part of it.

Killing creatures for sport, in my opinion, does make you a killer - it's weird and sick, and indicates a disregard for life that i find reprehensible.

Kill to eat, be respectful. Otherwise, leave wildlife alone.

I'm not as into this as you seem to be so forgive my half assed response.

first of all, i never claimed animals don't have feelings, don't know where you saw that.
I just think it's stupid for people to condemn people who are killing animals under supervision and for population control (animals who have had a full life living in the wild "a good life" if you will) while supporting slaughterhouses by buying their products, where animals are kept in poor conditions mostly. (if you go to lengths to buy food where animals are treated better, fair play to you, but surely you know most people don't.)

Well, I see value in it. But yea - it does sound kinda silly.

He IS right that the human values and treasures the language far too much and holds it in too high esteem.

To what lengths does a human go to get a few false nice words? To get some respect and status in speech alone? To avoid being a bitch? To not become a douchebag? To not be associated with the right-wing? To be associated with some donorcircles giving food to some people, but denying it to others?

I agree. And give a shit - but one does not need to go around tell it to people not willing to spend the time for this. I like philosophy - it does sound silly most of the time but it does hold some serious meaning to it. And it doesn't actually help you in life but you feel you understand the big picture a bit better. It's helping to feel empathy. To understand why your opponent acts the way he does. It's not necessarily psychology you need to understand the people.

I should probably point out that the "he" is more or less me when I did a bit of philosophy. And don't get me wrong I love philosophy myself.

It's just the smugness of people who've had one class and think they understand the workings of the world, because they can stump people with sayings like that.

Just chilling, listening to music and surfing the web

Talking to a very pretty girl who I am very sure is into me, but I have commitment issues and I like my freedom a lot so I'm not sure if I want to pursue it.

How about you?
User avatar #10 to #9 - ambiguous **User deleted account** (09/30/2013) [-]
Do you like her?

I'm alright. Just enjoying my days off work.
User avatar #11 to #10 - theodordronen (09/30/2013) [-]
I like her sure. She's cool, nice and very attractive (a bit out of my league as well i think)
It's more about me having trouble with any relationship in general.

Where do you work? and where are you from if we're at that stage
User avatar #12 to #11 - ambiguous **User deleted account** (09/30/2013) [-]
Be up front with her. It would be bad to reject her if you like her but also be bad to lead into something that you're comfortable. Perhaps you can find some sort of situation/relationship that you can deal with.

I work with a catering company. Kansas City, USA

I'm hoping to find some sort of middle ground. I've just been down this road before and I go into a panic and start to over-analyze stuff.

I always meet some wise sage-like people on the internet. Any issues in your life I can assist you with?
User avatar #14 to #13 - ambiguous **User deleted account** (09/30/2013) [-]
I have similar issues with thinking about things too much. Does this girl live near you or far away?

Not currently. Just trying to make a living and pay bills and stuff.
User avatar #15 to #14 - theodordronen (09/30/2013) [-]
She goes to my university. She's a third year dancer and I'm a second year film student so already I'm thinking about the fact that she'll be done after this year and what happens then.
See I'm already thinking about how we would handle that kind of stuff before we've even been on a date. My brain is trained to think long term, life and death kind of stuff. I analyze everything as to how it affects the trajectory of my life, it's annoying.

How old are you? If you don't mind me asking
User avatar #16 to #15 - ambiguous **User deleted account** (10/01/2013) [-]
Well you'll stay in contact and still go to do stuff together, assuming you go down that path. I think it's more about going with it and seeing where things go rather than thinking about where they might go without trying.

I'm 23.

I know, I know. I'm just saying that when panick mode checks in then that's where my head goes.

Also I study abroad, so makes the whole next year thing a bit trickier
User avatar #19 to #17 - ambiguous **User deleted account** (10/01/2013) [-]
I understand. When I had problems before, no matter what people told me to try and help me, I couldn't help but think about everything that could go wrong.

What country are you studying in?

we're both norwegians, studying in London
