you aren't awake when you sleepwalk, that's called just being awake, but it does make no sense anyway, a more logical thing would be his girlfriend took it when she stopped over one night, but these kind of comments are just shite anyway

Linear functions, like y=mx+b. Thst is the most specific thing thst i ha e tried to learn a million times and i still dont get it. But i got up to calculus and pre-trig in highschool. Shit like cos tan and sin and then -sin etc and then theda and shit i just got lost in all the letters. Im an english teacher now

I doubt you care, but think about it this way.

A simple graph has an x direction and a y direction. They don't mean much by themselves, they're just different directions.

You want to find out the value of one direction, based on the other. If your equation is y=mx+b, then you are trying to find y, because the equation is set up as Y equals something else.

To find what Y is, we have to know where we are finding y. We are finding Y at X, because in Y=mX+b, m and b are just numbers and only x can change, so X must be deciding where we are finding y. X is our location on the graph.

So starting with Y=mX, we see that Y is equal to X multiplied by a number. If the number is five, then Y is always 5 multiplied by x.
If x=1, then y=1(5) or 5
x=2, then y=2(5)or 10

So we can see that as x increases, Y also increases, but Y is increasing much faster, seen by x=2 and y=10. Thus the line is steep pointing up to the right.

If we have Y=3, then think again, what is Y at x=1?
There is no x in Y=3, so at any X, Y still just equals 3, making the graph a horizontal line, up above the x axis, always the same distance from the X axis because the X doesn't have any effect on the Y.

So, if we have Y=5x+3, we have x multiplied by 5, which means Y increaes quickly compared to x, and we have Y=3 which moves everything upwards. There is no X modifying the 3, so we know that no matter what 5x is, y is moved up 3.

You can think of Y=mx+b as two lines. Y=mx combined with Y=b.
If you draw both, and add the values, you will get the correct line, because that is what the equation Y=mx+b is doing.

Notice in the picture, that the blue line is the red line placed on the orange line.

What part of that equation confused you?
#33 - msamnesia (10/05/2016) [-]
I typically just forget what part does what in how it affects the graph outcome. Its the dumbest most simplest shit but my brain just refuses to remember it. I gotta relearn it every year i have math. I did decent in calc so i can do more advanced math, but thst basic ass linear function evades me.

I tried. Lord knows i tried. Math always ruined my otherwise perfect GPA. i would do so much just to get a B so i could still retain honor roll, if not deans list

What he said, in fact the hardest part of high level math courses is algebra. A strong math foundation will set you up to hand just about anything.

That's probably true.
Mint + lemon itself is great to add taste.
