Yeah that's what it seems like, and that's the one I was referring too.

I dunno, maybe I'll give it a shot soon. Still enjoying Diamond Mine atm though. Shit's amazing. Might even add John Taylor's Month Away to my covers list.

Yeah, this be that sexy calming shit. Delicious.

I previewed some of one of his albums on itunes the other day and some of the tracks were like, really kind of loud almost club banger type tracks (at least the drums, like a POUNDING kick drum). Not sure I like that side of him as much. Maybe I just have to listen to a whole album through sometime to make a proper assessment.
User avatar #5897 - themagicwizard (7 hours ago) [-]
I think his older albums were like really downtempo chill stuff, you'd probably be into those, like Opalescent. His newest one, Immunity, kinda has some of that going on towards the beginning. They're still the most beautifully atmospheric and detailed electronic bangers I've ever heard, though. That album just blows me away. It calms down and becomes more ambient and chill in the 2nd half.

I dunno why I never shared this with you before (at least I don't think I have), but I feel like you might like it. It's kinda similar to Diamond Mine, what with mixing elements of folk and ambient together emphemetry.bandcamp.com/album/a-lullaby-hum-for-tired-streets

I love this percussive guitar sound in After Catalunya

Yeah lot of good use of harmonics in that song and the next one too. This was always a classic album to take on walks with for me. is gud.

You mean acoustics? Sounds like the mic is right up in that guitar's business.
User avatar #3426 to #3425 - ultrablue (11/20/2014) [-]
I'm talking about him playing harmonics on the guitar. The little ringing notes that start at around :46 in After Catalunya are plucked harmonics.

DOWNER INCOMING READ NO FURTHER IF YOU WANT TO MAINTAIN YOUR GOOD MOOD

Man, I don't feel good about anything right now. I visited my grandpa today, probably for one of the last times. I love this guy so much and he's just been wasting away over the last few months from cancer.

END SADNESS: NORMAL POST RESUMING

For some reason I haven't imported that album into itunes yet. Just got the zip file sitting in my downloads folder for however long it's been since you showed it to me. I love it though. I listened to the whole album when you posted it the first time. So dreamy. It's just been sitting in my ever-growing cloud of bandcamps you've sent me that I dig.
User avatar #3382 to #3381 - ultrablue (10/27/2014) [-]
Well **** , son. I'm sorry to hear that. If you ever need to talk I'm here of course

But yeah, I've been playing that album tons since its release. I think it's ever so slowly inching its way into my favorite albums of the year.

Anyway, gotta go or something. But I'll be back at some other time.
User avatar #3383 to #3382 - themagicwizard ONLINE (10/27/2014) [-]
I don't think I really need to, I don't know what there is to say anyway. I just feel terrible.

Later, breh. See you whenever you're done with your unspecified doings.

I have a few albums that I really love that came out this year, and I hardly ever have any idea when artists I like are going to release something new. One of them might release something between now and January 1st that blows me away. We'll see.

It looks like Muslimgauze's ghost has settled down a little this year, he's only released 2 new albums in 2014 so far, as opposed to 5 last year. I listened to the album Cobra Head Soup by him again today. It was really good, part of one of the songs really heavily reminded me of Burial, which I though was really cool.

I don't think you ever did... which is shocking cause this stuff sounds pretty fantastic. I need to listen to those songs fully when I get my headphones on.. currently I'm at my friend's house and just played it straight through the laptop speakers. But yeah, sounds pretty middle easterny sweet.
User avatar #3387 to #3386 - themagicwizard ONLINE (10/27/2014) [-]
If you download something of his, make sure to turn the volume down because everything by him is mixed extremely loud.

I love his stuff. You're sure I've never told you about him? He's a British dude that was way into Palestinian freedom and made an album basically every week until he died in 1999. He recorded so much stuff that multiple albums of his are still being released every year.
User avatar #3388 to #3387 - ultrablue (10/27/2014) [-]
Nope, none of this sounds familiar haha. But I'm glad I'm hearing it now. I'll be sure to youtube more songs when I get home, which should be shortly.

But Made is such a great song to end on, it's perfect...

Dobermins is good too, here you go

User avatar #3365 to #3364 - ultrablue (10/21/2014) [-]
Thanks, bb. I need AAAAAAAALLLL the tracks. Made will just have to settle for being 3rd to last.

After 9/11, I remember in my elementary school, they made us sing that song every morning. For some reason it has some sort of special place in my heart now, even though it's on some patriotic steroids, which I'm not down with. But the cheesiness adds something to it that still makes it kind of good. lol.

User avatar #3367 to #3365 - themagicwizard ONLINE (10/21/2014) [-]
I'll always consider Made to be the closer, and Dobermins/Fins are bonuses. Fins is sweet, I've listened to it a couple times now.

I live for that patriotism roidage. It makes me laugh so much, but it's just reached a point where I genuinely enjoy it because of that. I love those outrageous American stereotypes too.

Pretty good, squid free for sure. That Schubert Impromptu is coming along. I was checking out some of the pile of records I got last weekend earlier today, I dun gud.

And Turkey is finally allowing the Kurdish Peshmerga to cross its borders to fight ISIS in Syria. What a great day!

Seems like they've been acting like pretty big assholes recently, but what do I know?

I went to a big book sale last weekend and they had a ton of records too. For records, I got some cool classical/romantic stuff, and some goofy polka/Polish Christmas records and stuff like that. My friend got one by this psychic reader guy talking about horoscopes, which was fantastic.
User avatar #3348 to #3347 - ultrablue (10/21/2014) [-]

Also, Polish polkas? You listening to the music of my people now?

Lol, we already used it, he's sampled in the 2 songs on my soundcloud page with the squid picture as the cover.

Now? Polka has always been a given.

Actually I don't give a **** about polka. It's tre boring.

We definitely had some controversial moments. I unintentionally insulted black people and Brazilians, then hinted at support for Al Qaeda.

But we did have some other good stuff. We read from a UFO reports book, Chariots of the Gods by Erich von Däniken (Ancient Aliens guy) and Dante's inferno all at the same time over 2 NASA space recordings CDs playing simultaneously. Also another Death Grips song with the swears replaced by quacks, among other things.
User avatar #3324 to #3323 - ultrablue (10/17/2014) [-]
LOL sounds like a grand old time. That eastern music is really having an effect on you eh? Next thing I know you're gonna be telling me you're joining ISIS. heh.

Speaking of UFOs (well maybe not, I dunno) woob.bandcamp.com/album/have-landed

Check that. My latest bandcamp purchase. You may like. I thought it was mostly ambient when I got it, but it uses a lot of orchestration as well. Also, his newest album is called Ambient Disaster Movie. AHEM. AMBIENT. DISASTER. MOVIE. How is that not the greatest? I'm gonna peep that next when I get some more mula.

Lolol, the Al Queda thing happened because I was portraying that hipster stereotype of liking something after it's gone out of style, like everyone's moved onto ISIS and Al Qaeda is now an obscure and retro terrorist group.

I see now that I was probably the only one on Earth that got that joke...

We also posted some new songs on soundcloud in the last few days, which we played a few of.

Yeah, dude. It hurts me to listen to things with so many youtube views and likes and comments. It's like I'm just part of all the sheeple. Thinking about deleting all the Bonobo and Boards of Canada and all the other stuff that's on youtube with millions of views just so I can go full purist, y'know?

Eno I've heard of. But there's singing too. I guess that's what makes it cross the threshold.

User avatar #3314 to #3313 - ultrablue (10/17/2014) [-]
It's probably his most famous story. Basically it's about a guy who turns into a bug and then tries to cope with his family's reactions to his new state.

When I type the synopsis out like that it sounds like it could be a brand new CBS sitcom or something lol.
User avatar #3315 to #3314 - themagicwizard ONLINE (10/17/2014) [-]
I've read about him a little bit, it sounds like so much is lost in the translation from German.

User avatar #3316 to #3315 - ultrablue (10/17/2014) [-]
Almost, except more depressing. They mostly just keep him locked in a room all the time.

I may check out some more Kafka in the future. It was probably the best thing that I read in that class. Most of it was boring and meh and with no sparknotes for the majority of them because most of them were all obscure eastern writers.

OH MY GOD, I just realized it says square free twice on the cover. "Square free presents: Franchize - Love and Politics. Then on the end of the word "free" there's a metal tag hanging off of it that says "square free certified."

This is some serious next level stuff.
User avatar #3260 to #3258 - ultrablue (09/27/2014) [-]
HAHAHAHA oh god. We should parody this album and then officially change it to "Squid free" then on the cover just have a bunch of squids lined up against a wall while we have ak47s pointed at them.
User avatar #3261 to #3260 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/27/2014) [-]
I never appreciated this album as much as it deserved until now. Praise Franchize

User avatar #3263 to #3262 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/27/2014) [-]
Nah, he's still an idiot.

But still, more people need to hear this album. We have to spread the gospel of Franchize
User avatar #3264 to #3263 - ultrablue (09/27/2014) [-]
I agree. I feel like we should just leave them in the CD sections at Target and Walmart. Maybe some grocery stores too for good measure, you know, get every demographic out there. Maybe pawn some off at Chuck E Cheese.
User avatar #3265 to #3264 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/27/2014) [-]
Oh god, I just remembered that there's a phone number/email/myspace page link on the insert

lolol, on the train ride back (this was at like 12:30am) my friend called him sarcastically demanding his money back. He didn't pick up though, so we left a message.
User avatar #3268 to #3267 - ultrablue (09/27/2014) [-]
Haha well obviously now you need to ask why he rudely never returned your message
User avatar #3269 to #3268 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/27/2014) [-]
Lol, right after listening to 54 minutes of him talking about shooting/stabbing people on and off. Maybe tomorrow. For now, goodnight.
User avatar #3256 to #3255 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/27/2014) [-]
I'll get you a picture of the CD cover tomorrow, you have to see it. He even signed it on the CD case.
User avatar #3257 to #3256 - ultrablue (09/27/2014) [-]
Is it every bit as fantastic as the music?
User avatar #3259 to #3257 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/27/2014) [-]
Yes. It absolutely is.
User avatar #3248 to #3246 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/27/2014) [-]
Oh man, up until like 5 minutes ago, i thought they were talking about squids or something, whenever they say "square" it just sounds like squid to me.

Seriously it just keeps getting better the deeper you get into the album. If you haven't listened to Smile yet, you have to.

I'll check on that right now for ya, boss.

AND ONE MORE THING
www.youtube.com/watch?v=4J2a8zmu0b0
Do you know Hecq? He's got some really nice ambient stuff.
User avatar #3224 to #3223 - ultrablue (09/27/2014) [-]
Thanks, bruh.

I got No Better Time Than Now. Figured I'd start with the newest. It's pretty fantastic.

I spread some of that patriotism for ya, no worries.

Never heard of Hecq. I like it though. I dig when the brief like, vocal synths come in here and there. It reminds me of the Halo song haha. The ambient movement is real. And by movement I mean I am getting more and more ambient **** lol.
User avatar #3225 to #3224 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/27/2014) [-]
I think I'm gonna get on that ambient jam again soon. I occasionally have periods where I just look around and find a bunch of stuff from one genre. I did it with psychedelic rock/abstract psychedelic stuff, then ambient a while ago. Then this whole middle-eastern thing happened and everything went to hell from there. I think I'm ready to start obsessively gathering ambient again.

And deeeyum ******* , it's 5.8GB
User avatar #3226 to #3225 - ultrablue (09/27/2014) [-]
Alright, that's a fookin lot. But, luckily I have 6.4 gb, so it's still just enough. Phew.

I myself can't get out of the rap whirlwind. Most of the new releases that I've listened to this year have been rap albums.

Speaking of new ambient releases though, I think I showed you 36 before right? Well he put out a new album in July and I really need to but that soon because that **** sounds immaculate. 3six.bandcamp.com/
#3227 to #3226 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/27/2014) [-]
Oh sheeit, yeah. I remember that guy, sweet. I'll check that out. Gotta see what my ambient dudes are up to. I'm terrible at keeping track of artists and when they release stuff.

No Better Time than Now is awesome, did I tell you I talked with him for a few minutes after a show a couple months ago? I should have asked him if he had any collaborations with rappers in the works/in mind, or new stuff in general. But I always blow it in those situations and basically just compliment them on the show and their music.

FJ continues to be no fun
User avatar #3228 to #3227 - ultrablue (09/27/2014) [-]
Yeah, actually that's exactly how I am with meeting musicians or whoever. I met one of my favorite bands, Anti-Flag, years ago, and I had all the chances in the world to talk about so much **** , and I just was like "uhh yeah, I like you guys. heh." Lame ass lame.

LOL I love your responses though. Troll game be like woah.
User avatar #3229 to #3228 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/27/2014) [-]
H-hey Shigeto, did you know I'm a world-class trole? Also, I like your stuff...

User avatar #3231 to #3230 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/27/2014) [-]
LOL, I should burn some CDs to bring with me for any future shows I go to. I can draw some ****** sharpie art on them too.
User avatar #3232 to #3231 - ultrablue (09/27/2014) [-]
Hahaha that would actually be great. Usually people who try to pawn their music off on random people it's like, ****** rap or some indie stuff. It would be a nice twist to hand out some strange experimental stuff lol.
User avatar #3233 to #3232 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/27/2014) [-]
"So I was in NYC last weekend, and this guy convinced me to take a copy of his mixtape. I put it in yesterday just to see how bad it was... and it's just monkey screeches, chanting and people talking about jews and communists."
User avatar #3234 to #3233 - ultrablue (09/27/2014) [-]
HAHAHA I would pay to see that reaction. LOL his mixtape.
User avatar #3235 to #3234 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/27/2014) [-]
One of my friends actually bought a guy's mixtape when we were in NYC one time, I think he might be retarded. He paid the dude $6 for it, and the guy insisted the CD was free, but wanted a "tip." He also advertised it as a jazz CD, even though it was clearly going to be ****** rap. It was the dumbest **** . I think the title was "Love & Politics" and not a single song made reference to either of those things. There was one song about "secret money" or something which made us all lol though. I still have the CD.
User avatar #3236 to #3235 - ultrablue (09/27/2014) [-]
Hahaha oh wow. I kind of want to hear that. It's probably amazing, but probably not even close to as amazing as Rap Tyson (think I showed you him before, maybe in the plug.dj ) www.youtube.com/watch?v=17PvwH1--eo

Tyson is untouchable.
User avatar #3237 to #3236 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/27/2014) [-]
I'm gonna upload it right now because I want you to hear it.

Tyson is a formidable force in hip hop, but these guys are actually serious. Seriously lold at his video The Merciful (Allahu Akbar)
User avatar #3238 to #3237 - ultrablue (09/27/2014) [-]
Haha read the comments of the vid too. ****** classic. I need to find out if my friend still has connections with him so I can meet him. Maybe he'll even let me spit a verse! HO BOY!

I can't wait to hear it. Also, I assure you that Tyson is 100% serious. At least that's what my friend tells me lol.
User avatar #3239 to #3238 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/27/2014) [-]
Dude, there's a track on this called Destiny. Gonna listen to it on loop every time I play Destiny.
User avatar #3240 to #3239 - ultrablue (09/27/2014) [-]
Haha yessssssss. So if I get Destiny tomorrow I'll do the same. In fact, hopefully we can get that song out there and then it will be forever synonymous with the game.
User avatar #3241 to #3240 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/27/2014) [-]

I'm listening to it as it uploads, this **** is so ******* dumb. It's great.

lolol, I liked that one too. The very first one made me laugh also, I can see us doing that one, but presenting it in a very positive, enthusiastic way.
User avatar #3211 to #3210 - ultrablue (09/24/2014) [-]
HAHAHAHA that's great. You probably have tons of music that would work well with that too.

Not much. Music, the usual. Not sure I'm gonna get Destiny now. Don't have enough memory and apparently you can't put it on a usb drive, it has to be an xbox hard drive. So I'm ****** unless I wanna spend even more money on a new xbox hard drive AND a transfer cable which I don't even have the money for and I'm not sure how long they are gonna keep making 360 games so it probably wouldn't even be worth it. So you may be Destinying without me still :/

Sup wit chu
User avatar #3198 to #3197 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/24/2014) [-]
lol, what a sad paragraph. If I was in your position, I'd definitely consider getting a hard drive because I'm going to continue using it/getting old games for it for the foreseeable future. I still buy games for my original xbox.

You can't transfer some other stuff from your hard drive to a usb?

I'm chilling, listening to Aphex Twin's new album, Syro. It's pretty cool.
User avatar #3199 to #3198 - ultrablue (09/24/2014) [-]
I thought of that. I'm still thinking about what I'm going to do. Now my friend is offering to just buy me a hard drive lol. I dunno. **** it all,

Ah nicey. I thought about checking it. What I've heard sounds good. I never really checked a full album from him; I like some of his **** but the crazier stuff I'm kind of like eh on. But I've been thinking about checking the new album regardless like I said. After I listen a bunch to all this **** that just came out this week hehheh
User avatar #3200 to #3199 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/24/2014) [-]
There is hope... still, Bungie's being bitches if that's what they're requiring to play the game, on top of the constant internet connection thing.

Syro's nice, nothing particularly crazy on it, though.
User avatar #3201 to #3200 - ultrablue (09/24/2014) [-]
Yeah.. ******* nazis.. whatevs

I'm just gonna keep bumping Oasis of Days and some new rap **** in the meantime.

Good man, good man. And I will keep bumping all this junk that I have. Oasis of Days and Syro are the only really recent things I have right now.
User avatar #3203 to #3202 - ultrablue (09/24/2014) [-]
So what else is new. Having a radio show tomorrow?
User avatar #3204 to #3203 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/24/2014) [-]
Yup, there might be a bunch of random people joining us too. I'll try and keep the sections where we're just rambling about nothing to under 50% of the show this time.
User avatar #3205 to #3204 - ultrablue (09/24/2014) [-]
But does this mean it's going to be a metal extravaganza again? haha
User avatar #3188 to #3187 - ultrablue (09/22/2014) [-]
Yeah, dude. They definitely deserve some recognition.

This will most likely be on repeat all week for me haha. ******* three good albums coming out this week... CAN.. NOT.. HANDLE.. MUSIC.. OVERLOAD... **** ...

You use it basically every time you say anything. I'm hyped though.

I wasn't on the radio tonight, one of my friends was doing the show alone because I was in NYC and the other one was being a turd for some reason.
User avatar #3173 to #3172 - ultrablue (09/11/2014) [-]
Ah, ok I figured because all the music was ****** :^)

What were you up to in NYC?
User avatar #3174 to #3173 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/11/2014) [-]
I went there with my sister because she had a grad school fair/convention thing. While she was at that for 3 hours, I checked out the new Trade Center building/monuments. They had 2 huge spotlight setups going, it was crazy. You could look straight up and they just kept going. I wonder how much power that took. I also got a great picture of an asian couple taking pictures of it in that hilarious way asians take pictures.
User avatar #3175 to #3174 - ultrablue (09/11/2014) [-]

Hey, broseph, do you want this album? I'm listening to it again right now, and it's still great. Really reminiscent of early Bibio stuff. I'll mediafire it for you if you wish.
User avatar #3143 to #3142 - themagicwizard ONLINE (07/30/2014) [-]
Oh golly, i sure would! Thanks man.

I actually have something to give you in return, if you want it. I have an old EP he released in 2007 under the name Post-Foetus.
User avatar #3144 to #3143 - ultrablue (07/30/2014) [-]
Absolutely, why not. Is it in the vein off Baths or Geotic or something totally different than both of those?

Uploading Morning Shore now. Hope AAC files are ok again.
User avatar #3145 to #3144 - themagicwizard ONLINE (07/30/2014) [-]
GOD DAMN YOU AND YOUR AAC FILES Yeah, it doesn't really matter to me.

I dunno, I still have to really check it out. I haven't listened to every song on it yet. From what I've listened to, it's kinda in between, it has vocals anyway. It came before Geotic though.

I'll upload it now.
User avatar #3146 to #3145 - ultrablue (07/30/2014) [-]
HMMMMM INTRIGUING

The next Geotic album is supposed to be voice based, while this one was guitar based. I wonder what that'll sound like... is there another Geotic album that uses a lot of voice? I just thought he used singing in Baths
User avatar #3147 to #3146 - themagicwizard ONLINE (07/30/2014) [-]
I think he used his voice in Winter Loops, but it was all chopped up. I'm pretty sure he never did an entirely vocal ep or album as Geotic, though, so it'll be something new. I'm excited for that and the piano one, I'm sure they'll sound pretty cool. I love messing around with piano sounds.

Looks like his angelfire page with all the free Geotic stuff just got taken down. GOOD THING I DOWNLOADED ALL OF IT OVER A YEAR AGO!

GAY DONKEY ORGY, MY FAVORITE.

But yeah, I too am excited for both of those. I think the voice one is going to be very interesting. VERRY VERRRRY interesting.
User avatar #3149 to #3148 - themagicwizard ONLINE (07/30/2014) [-]
Oh, good. I'm glad it wasn't just deleted forever.

In other news, you know that A Hawk and a Hacksaw song I played in plug.dj? God Bless the Ottoman Empire. The album it's on is great, I think you might like some of it. But what do I know? I feel like clunkybot would be into them, if he was still with us.

This one's like western movie soundtrack smashed together with eastern european/middle eastern folk.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure he lives in Colorado.

You nincompoop, you had a chance to see him and bring him back to life and you failed! Gosh dang it.

Well, if he is in Collyraidhoes, maybe he's just been high 24/7 with no regard for FJ and has reached a new intimacy with his music. We may never know for sure.
User avatar #3153 to #3152 - themagicwizard ONLINE (07/30/2014) [-]
I know, he's told me he lives there before. I have no idea where in CO, though, and I'm not just gonna bust into his house to tell him to come back on FJ, he might be jacking it or something and It would be awkward.

I've barely listened to any music at all this week, actually. I've just been doing stuff with some friends in Colorado. I have listened to Plains of the Purple Buffalo by *shels a few times, though. That album is amazing. Beautiful west-core.
User avatar #3125 to #3124 - ultrablue (07/16/2014) [-]
I'll check it. I've got some foreign type stuff to show you eventually soonish.

Ahh yes, Colorado, I remember. I was wondering why you've been absent. Makes sense now.
User avatar #3126 to #3125 - themagicwizard ONLINE (07/16/2014) [-]
I'm getting back on the 18th and I'll have no internet, at least for a few days anyway.

What's this about foreign stuff now?
User avatar #3127 to #3126 - ultrablue (07/16/2014) [-]
Well, I don't have all of it, but I found this band that does like folk stuff but they're some type of middle eastern. Forgot the name atm but it's good and I think you'd dig it. There was something else too, but I can't remember the name either. I saved their names in my artist document though.

Also, ************* Christopher Tin.

Hamsafar - Christopher Tin (feat. Sussan Deyhim)

Christopher Tin - Kia Hora Te Marino

Christopher Tin - Baba Yetu (feat. Soweto Gospel Choir)

This one you may have heard before. Most popular one and it was in Civ IV
User avatar #3128 to #3127 - themagicwizard ONLINE (07/16/2014) [-]
I've never played any of the Civ games, but I've wanted to get Civ V for a while now.

I haven't listened to anything by Christopher Tin before, but there's something about it I'm not digging. I've never liked that kind of combination of western harmony/instrumentation and random non-western stuff. I don't know why, but i've always hated it with a passion, and I have to do it in choir all the time because apparently it makes choir directors piss their pants with joy.

Sorry for the super negative response. That just happens to be one of those things I actually have an opinion on.
User avatar #3130 to #3128 - ultrablue (07/16/2014) [-]
Don't you like that one Egyptian band that plays funk though?

Or are you just talking about classical/contemporary music specifically?
User avatar #3132 to #3130 - themagicwizard ONLINE (07/16/2014) [-]
Oh, do you mean Tinariwen, those Malian guys who play bluesy stuff?
User avatar #3133 to #3132 - ultrablue (07/16/2014) [-]
Haha yes, I couldn't remember the exact details
User avatar #3134 to #3133 - themagicwizard ONLINE (07/16/2014) [-]
Nah, that's different to me. Their own style takes the lead and it's something I'm unfamiliar with, and that's what I really enjoy. There are some other bands like them, but something about them rubs me the right way. Like you know my husbando, Ihsan Ozgen? He did a collab album with his ensemble and a jazz band. I didn't dig that at all.

But I think the main thing I'm not into is the orchestral kind of setting. That's another thing I'm just not into on its own either, modern orchestral stuff like that. I know it's done all the time with bigger budget video games and movies, but in those cases, I have something to associate it with, and there's some sort of element to the sound that's tailored towards the genre or style of the game/movie it's connected to. Maybe if I knew his stuff from games I might be more okay with it, I dunno.
User avatar #3135 to #3134 - ultrablue (07/16/2014) [-]
Interesting, but yeah that's what I was asking if it was mainly just like orchestrated contemporary stuff that you feel that way about.

Interesting too about the movie/video game thing. I dunno if I feel the same way when I listen to those. In some regard I associate them with that, but I like to think I can separate both music and medium enough to enjoy them individually. I dunno. It depends. I know I always enjoyed playing stuff we had to play back when I was in band in middle school so maybe it comes from that. Also, something about group chanting in other languages always gets me, no matter what kind of music it's in. Love that **** .
User avatar #3136 to #3135 - themagicwizard ONLINE (07/16/2014) [-]
I can definitely separate them and enjoy them individually, I listen to video game soundtracks as much as any neckbeard, but I really like when they have some unique element that they had to have to make them fit in with whatever they were made for, like the Assassin's Creed 1 soundtrack or Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow with all that great breakbeat, subdued spy sounding stuff, and movie soundtracks like Moon with all its bleepy space station noises or The Machinist, where the whole thing is so eerie and the theremin just makes it.
#3137 to #3136 - ultrablue (07/16/2014) [-]

User avatar #3139 to #3138 - ultrablue (07/16/2014) [-]
Well, I mean, it really is a hard thing to pinpoint. I often feel "I just like it" or "I just don't like it" is a valid argument, because over analyzing it can be dizzying. This is why shib.e gets into thousands of lengthy thread arguments trying to explain himself with whatever the **** he's talking about lol.

I got this little audio adapter thing so I can use my new headset that I talked about and use my HDMI cable at the same time. And I got a Nintendo eshop card thing so I can buy some old classic Nintendo games for my Wii U.

Hop Along is the main band I wanna see though they aren't even the headliner. Just basically Rock/Indie Rock stuff. I've been obsessed with them though.

I think I know what you mean, both digging Ohrenbetaubende Stille and appreciating it in that atmosphere.

I just remembered another cool album experience I've had, from this winter:

Walking across a frozen lake for 2 miles listening to Substrata by Biosphere, with thin snow drifts blowing across the surface all around me.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Q-u_tIzJAY
User avatar #3102 to #3101 - ultrablue (06/17/2014) [-]
That's awesome. Truly.

Yeah I feel like no one I know IRL strives for those experiences of using music as a backdrop to awesome atmospheres. That's why I always liked doing the 3 hour drive to and from college and home at night because certain parts of the drive you'd be around just trees and no cars and I always tried to time it with listening to something really fitting and peaceful. One time I even drove back during a meteor shower (I didn't know it at the time, I was just like, wtf are these blue ***** in the sky and am I just seeing things? heh)
User avatar #3103 to #3102 - themagicwizard ONLINE (06/17/2014) [-]
I love those drives, I haven't done one in a while though. My friend sometimes does those with me, and we'll listen to Swans usually, then he gets weirded out by some songs and changes it to some random thing, which is weird, because he's the one who listens to Swans, not me.

Niqqa how did you not know they were meteors?

You just reminded me of another one

In Florida last summer, there was a meteor shower and nobody else wanted to go watch it with me, so I took my bike out at like 2 or 3am and rode around the island I was on, to find a vacant spot to watch it. I listened to this really chilled out EP of remixed Shlohmo songs by Teebs, Nicolas Jaar, Airhead, and some other people. After a little bit, I rode across to the beach and watched a bit more of it from there, and ended up seeing a huge green sea turtle making its way back into the water after laying its eggs. I definitely think more of that EP after that, and it was such an awesome time to listen to it.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=znzBd4aQgsk
User avatar #3104 to #3103 - ultrablue (06/17/2014) [-]
Jesus that's a great story. Idk how it could get more awesome than that.

I don't think I had ever seen a meteor shower in person before that night, so I had no idea. Then I got home and after browsing the web a bit I found out that there was one that night and I was like "ooohhhh."

Damn it, now I just wanna go walk this lake tomorrow (if I can get my ass out of bed early enough) and listen to tunes. I haven't been to said lake in awhile so it should be good. There's a relatively small lake that's behind my house that I do like walking around sometimes, but it's always really crowded with people unfortunately. I did see a beaver/muskrat last time though so that made up for it.
User avatar #3106 to #3104 - themagicwizard ONLINE (06/17/2014) [-]
I also made a thread about this stuff on the music board
User avatar #3105 to #3104 - themagicwizard ONLINE (06/17/2014) [-]
Do it, man. Those are some awesome memories, and they make the albums you listen to even better, I think. All you need to do to clear the people out is start wearing a gorilla suit or something and sneak around in the trees.

I'm going to Colorado in a couple weeks. I dunno if I'll have any alone time because some friends are coming along too, but if I do, I'm gonna go hiking and listen to some Asura or something and it's gonna be awesome. I'm definitely gonna have to listen to some albums during bike rides around the mountains.
User avatar #3107 to #3105 - ultrablue (06/17/2014) [-]
Damn, you keep getting this great atmospheric opportunities. Colordo mountains will be perfect most likely.

I need to take advantage and go weird places while I can by myself. My friends and I like to go exploring, but obviously we usually aren't listening to music during.

I dig track 3
User avatar #3004 to #3003 - themagicwizard ONLINE (05/19/2014) [-]
Such an unfitting bandcamp appearance/cover. The music is nice though, pretty easy to lose focus on, but it's a pretty gucci atmosphere. Still doesn't spook me as much as that untitled library thing, but it kinda reminds me of it.
User avatar #3006 to #3004 - ultrablue (05/19/2014) [-]
I think the album cover is creepy enough to fit the music.

I would play this on a nice long drive through the desert if there were any deserts nearby.
User avatar #3007 to #3006 - themagicwizard ONLINE (05/19/2014) [-]
I might play it in a drive through the woods at night.

That font though, come on.
User avatar #3008 to #3007 - ultrablue (05/19/2014) [-]
I mean, it's just a font

It's not like it's comic sans or somethun

I'll join you on that drive though. Or, I'll go down to the creepy town that's close to where I live and play it. Yes.
User avatar #3010 to #3008 - themagicwizard ONLINE (05/19/2014) [-]
Track 5 is abandoned amusement park-core

Almost every tracks seems to have a different location I picture listening to it in.
User avatar #3011 to #3010 - ultrablue (05/19/2014) [-]
Haha amusement park-core. I can see that though. Maybe a ****** up cocaine riddled amusement park.

And it was bestpie... You won't ever figure me out.
User avatar #3012 to #3011 - themagicwizard ONLINE (05/19/2014) [-]
Some ex-employee is lingering there years after closing, with his pet monkey just constantly playing minor chords on a little accordion.

Thanks for posting this m8, it's pretty cool. It also reminded me I downloaded this and need to listen to it. Some spooky ass abandoned military base noise.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_D1Cet8fZ4
User avatar #3013 to #3012 - ultrablue (05/19/2014) [-]
Now that's some creepy ass artwork.

This is like horror game music or somethin. At least it belongs in there.
User avatar #3014 to #3013 - themagicwizard ONLINE (05/19/2014) [-]
You need that spooky art to go with your spooky jams. I feel like artwork affects the way I think of the music it's associated with a lot. Sleep Research Facility has really good environmental sounds. Like that one I think is supposed to be like military related, the album's called Stealth, and the actual cover is like an edited blueprint of a stealth bomber. He has some other ones with themes of spacecraft and the arctic, which are sweet.
User avatar #3015 to #3014 - ultrablue (05/19/2014) [-]
I usually feel the same way about artwork. That's why I find like silly artwork that's just like.. Idk like pasted on clipart or something.. like some of the bit music out there and breakcore **** just has the most terrible artwork that I can't take seriously. Luckily I don't like too much of the music I'm referring to.
#3016 to #3015 - themagicwizard ONLINE (05/19/2014) [-]
Lol, breakcore. DnB also has really terrible artwork, at least from what I've seen. Like it either has minimal or no real artwork, or just terrible **** .

I think almost every album I like, I also like the art. There are a few exceptions though, like that album Bill Clinton's holding in my picture, with Ihsan Ozgen just chilling there in a bright blue sweater over a lavender background. I love stuff like this one. Teebs also has some really nice artwork that he does himself.
#3017 to #3016 - ultrablue (05/19/2014) [-]
Yeah it's always weird to look at subpar album artwork all the time when I'm listening to something on itunes.

Like freakin Jonwayne and his troll ass mixtape album artwork.

I'm personally always into the most colorful album artwork though. Probably why Blockhead's album art is always some of my favorite stuff.
#3018 to #3017 - themagicwizard ONLINE (05/19/2014) [-]
LOL, those arrow arms are making me laugh so much.

You reminded me of this stupid **** , this is actually a cover of a single by 3D of Massive Attack. And he actually does a lot of really cool visual art too. I don't know what happened.
User avatar #3019 to #3018 - ultrablue (05/19/2014) [-]
Hahahaha, I guess he was just like "Well, it's a single so **** it and **** everyone."

ms paint art must be musicians way of saying they couldn't be arsed with paying or finding someone to do their artwork for them lol
User avatar #3020 to #3019 - themagicwizard ONLINE (05/19/2014) [-]
Maybe, it's the 2nd single in this Battle Box series, and the first one was just a picture of a white record over a white background. Should've seen this coming.

I kinda want to find more MS Paint covers now.
#3021 to #3020 - ultrablue (05/19/2014) [-]
Well this is the only other one I know off the top of my head.

Jonwayne strikes again.

Who was it telling us to make out? I know you're just trying to get me alone...

User avatar #2960 to #2959 - themagicwizard ONLINE (05/02/2014) [-]
I got a bunch of free Brazilian food and had my last classes of the semester, just finals left now. So it was pretty good. Also, the sun came out. A momentous occasion.

How about you? Other than suffering through separation anxiety all day.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RuFukiIxJc
This is part of a 5.7 year long song.
User avatar #2961 to #2960 - ultrablue (05/02/2014) [-]
Mine was just dandy. I had my 2nd to last final today, then I came home and wrote music, which was liberating because I haven't made real progress on a song in months.

It was sunny here too, which thank god because it's been raining off and on all fookin week so far.

Also, wtf? That's hideous. I clicked on the website and I'm still confused. One of the songs is literally just one constant wubbing sound for like an hour straight lol. But the youtube link was pretty good. It actually kinda reminds me of one of the things I want to show you
User avatar #2962 to #2961 - themagicwizard ONLINE (05/02/2014) [-]
Noice. What kind of song are you writing?

They've got this album/song/I dunno what to call it, Aleph 10. It's just thousands and thousands of identical split second popping sounds.
User avatar #2963 to #2962 - ultrablue (05/02/2014) [-]
LOL ******* what. Weren't you the person I was talking about the guy who does The Caretaker stuff has a side project were it's just like pig noises? HAHAHA. God.. ******* music.

Just like acoustic singer song writer stuff. It's mostly all I write these days, despite not being a very good singer. But I still enjoy it.
User avatar #2964 to #2963 - themagicwizard ONLINE (05/02/2014) [-]
Cool, I'm pretty **** at that sort of thing, so I just do electronic stuff mostly, a little bit of instrumental piano stuff too, though.

Yup, wasn't that conversation like 6 months ago?
User avatar #2965 to #2964 - ultrablue (05/02/2014) [-]
Probably, or longer. I remember things sometimes.

Anyway, here's one of the things I want to show you sparkwoodrecords.bandcamp.com/album/vermilion-concord

It's basically ambient stuff, with some dark ambient apocalyptic vibes mixed in. I'll just paste the description from the bandcamp here.

"Spearheaded by the worlds leading scientists, human kind faces both internal discord and the threat from elemental forces going haywire. Sulfur and Mercury combines, dawn of the mushroom clouded peafowl is at hand."

Such an awesome concept. I suggest at some point if you like some of what you hear, listening to it all the way though. It's good, interesting **** .
User avatar #2966 to #2965 - themagicwizard ONLINE (05/02/2014) [-]
I was almost asleep, then the distorted speech started, then the guy talking about cows.

I'm digging it. The album art is so terrible, but the music is really good. Dis dat smoov **** .
User avatar #2967 to #2966 - ultrablue (05/02/2014) [-]
Wait WHAT?! I love the album artwork. I think it's great.

I love the cows part too, hue.
User avatar #2968 to #2967 - themagicwizard ONLINE (05/02/2014) [-]
Gonna be honest, that's some of the ugliest album art I've ever seen. Without the big, obnoxious A, it wouldn't be quite as bad, but it still wouldn't be good. The peacock makes me laugh a little though.

This album is a great emotional narrative of the lives of cattle ranchers.
User avatar #2991 to #2968 - ultrablue (05/15/2014) [-]
Hm, I wonder if they were spying on our conversation... sparkwoodrecords.bandcamp.com/album/vermilion-concord
User avatar #2993 to #2991 - themagicwizard ONLINE (05/16/2014) [-]
Now you've got the uber rare pre-criticism cover
User avatar #2995 to #2993 - ultrablue (05/16/2014) [-]
That label just put out this sparkwoodrecords.bandcamp.com/album/n-1

Haven't listened to the whole thing, but it sounds pretty cool from what I have heard.
User avatar #2996 to #2995 - themagicwizard ONLINE (05/16/2014) [-]
I'm a little more down with this cover. This first track is pretty nice, too.

It is, isn't it? Sparkwood Records is my new gf.
User avatar #2994 to #2993 - ultrablue (05/16/2014) [-]

User avatar #2969 to #2968 - ultrablue (05/02/2014) [-]
Dag yo, harsh. The album artwork is actually what made me want to give it a listen. I honestly like it a fair amount haha.

I'd be more understanding if you insulted the artist name, cause that admittedly is kinda lame lol.
User avatar #2970 to #2969 - themagicwizard ONLINE (05/02/2014) [-]
lol, I know we definitely have very different things we look for in album art. I don't mean to insult your opinions or anything, i just think the album art is a piece of **** . Ok, I'm just being a turd on purpose now

Yeah, the name is pretty lame. I dunno if I would have checked this out myself, but I'm gad you showed me it. Thanks, dudebro.

This is by far the worst feature that admin ever added. That said, what kind of music are you into?
User avatar #2971 to #2970 - ultrablue (05/02/2014) [-]
It's that label. I've been bumping that Scyye album for a bit now, and while I don't have the eyesix album, Limerence, I've been hearing good things about it and want to check it out eventually. So, I've just been keeping an eye on stuff they put out cause it's all fairly good.

And it's ok, sonny. It's totally within your right to have absolutely terrible, god-awful opinions
User avatar #2972 to #2971 - themagicwizard ONLINE (05/02/2014) [-]
I've listened to Timegazing, I really liked that one too.

Damn shame this label has such **** covers "Ohh look, some grass/trees with some hotels behind them, wow! Let's make that our album cover!"

Use some surrealism with obscure occult symbols you ******* casuals. God.
User avatar #2973 to #2972 - ultrablue (05/02/2014) [-]
LOL well I guess I can see where you're coming from with those nature album covers.

And I'm also starting to sense that you're sickly obsessed with Satan, pentagrams, voodoo, and black magic.

But it's just a feeling I get.
User avatar #2905 - ultrablue (04/02/2014) [-]
I can't wait for it to get warmer so I can listen to Maelstrom on the beach

I'm about to fall asleep anyway. Soon...

I was listening to Ambivalence Avenue this morning and it was all nice and sunny, but then I got out of class and it was all James Blake weather out, cloudy and cold.
User avatar #2950 to #2949 - ultrablue (04/03/2014) [-]
Shiiit son. It was sunny all day for me and I should have taken advantage of it, but I just listened to Madvillain on the way to class. Actually, in between I walked around and studied later listening to Tycho, so I guess that was kinda warm sunny weatherish. Supposed to be nice again tomorrow so I may bump some Bibio then.
User avatar #2951 to #2950 - themagicwizard ONLINE (04/03/2014) [-]
Tycho is definitely happy summer music, like driving to the beach or something.

Listening to The Haxan Cloak now, I guess the environment for this would be like... lost in some dark forest with creepy animal spirits floating around.

I just listened to a little of it. That's like... ******* wormhole, monolith, 2001 music or something. You really love the spooky dark **** , don't you?
