Yeah, I'd usually just call them keyboards to avoid confusion.

If you aren't looking for anything like weighted keys or a ton of different settings, you could probably just find one super cheap at a thrift store or something and that'll get you started.

Damn, this and that Scriabin symphony are 2 of the best things I've heard in a while. Sometimes I'll zone in and out during an hour long album, but these 2 pieces have just held my attention the whole time.
User avatar #3600 to #3599 - ultrablue (01/27/2015) [-]
Definitely awesome. I haven't listened to as many symphonies as I should have.

The last time I remembered hearing extended music in this vein was back last year when I went to London; the last night some of us went to a concert (this actually, just found the link in my email from last year www.stmartin-in-the-fields.org/belmont/faure-requiem ). It was pretty cool; obviously not a whole single symphony though. This would be much cooler to witness live. My friend has seen this tour (I think) that goes around playing the music to the LotR movies, I THINK synced up with parts from the movies. That's definitely been on my list to see for awhile now if it ever comes around again.

Yeah, I think it's like a live scored viewing of the films. They did it in NYC recently, or maybe they haven't done it yet. It's a 2 day thing and you can get tickets to any one of the films or all 3. I really want to see that too.

It's in April in NYC. I guess it would have to be on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday because all the other dates are sold out. Even then, the only seats left are way up on the 4th balcony in the extra cheap seats which are still $70. The venue looks awesome, though. I might still be interested.

I HAVE NO ONE!!!!!

Also, good news! Another pentagram was created today, the biggest one yet! Probably 35-40ft across, at least. I live on a lake that's frozen and covered in a few inches of snow right now, so 2 friends and I went out and made a big ol' pentagram pointing at somebody's house. It's way too big to get a good picture of from the ground, but the houses up on the hill opposite the one in this picture should have a great view.
User avatar #3579 to #3578 - ultrablue (01/26/2015) [-]
Hahahahaha fantastic. You should've spray painted one on the snow in red. Hell, it's supposed to snow here tomorrow and Tuesday and I live by a few lakes, maybe I should do one of my own lol.

We did want to color it, but we didn't have anything. As we were walking away I asked if anyone had to pee. I'd go out there with some red food coloring in water or something, but it's supposed to dump like 2 feet of snow starting tomorrow.

You definitely should. It's a great way to spend an afternoon.

Wow, good for you Mr. Richie Rich!

Cool, is it another sci-fi thing or something different?
User avatar #3565 to #3564 - ultrablue (01/26/2015) [-]
Haha, IT IS GOOD FOR ME, MR. POORY POOR!

It's apparently the second part of a trilogy that started with Have Landed, so yeah, I guess it's all part of this time travel thing. It's not as diverse as Have Landed, but it does kinda sound more sci-fi-ish, but definitely darker and more kind of foreboding. It's definitely sweet, I've only listened to it twice so far, but first impressions are good.
User avatar #3566 to #3565 - themagicwizard ONLINE (01/26/2015) [-]
Damn man, that hurts...

Sounds awesome. So there are at least 2 album trilogies going on, Woob and Geotic. I'm behind on both of them. But they're both so good! I'm just awful.

Aphex Twin came out with a new EP, I dunno if you saw that or listened to it. It's great, though.
User avatar #3567 to #3566 - ultrablue (01/26/2015) [-]
OH DANG GEOTIC! Almost forgot, gotta buy that one next. No worries, I'm probably willing to share all those with you... probably...

Haven't heard the new Aphex. I'll check some of it out though. Still never dled a full album of his, but maybe soon (I'm pretty sure I said that last time I talked about him with you though lol).
User avatar #3568 to #3567 - themagicwizard ONLINE (01/26/2015) [-]
I don't need your damn handouts, OBAMA!

This one's pretty short, under 30 minutes. Assuming the title is truthful, it's a bunch of acoustic instruments being controlled by computers... the title is Computer Controlled Acoustic Instruments pt2 EP.
User avatar #3569 to #3568 - ultrablue (01/26/2015) [-]
Nah, I can't be Obama, if I were I'd be a lizard man person thing.

Just previewed some of it. Sounds really interesting, I may actually have to dl this. Something about the concept reminds me of OPN. It's like if AP did an OPN album or somethin.
User avatar #3570 to #3569 - themagicwizard ONLINE (01/26/2015) [-]
I dunno, I've only heard synth and sample stuff from OPN. Aphex has been around for a long time and this definitely seems like something he'd do.

I listened to Returnal by OPN last night, sitting in the dark. The first track is like a noisy hurricane of sound with what sounds like MC Ride yelling from another dimension. Then immediately after that it turns into serene, calming synth stuff. I really enjoyed it, you might too if you haven't heard it.
User avatar #3571 to #3570 - ultrablue (01/26/2015) [-]
I mean like.. the way it's sampled I guess is what I mean. Like, taking weird/out of the ordinary things/samples and then constructing them together to make something in their style. That's kind of what I meant if that makes sense.

That one is actual next on my list to get from him. Currently I only have R Plus Seven and Replica. From what I've heard of Returnal, your description sounds on point. That one sounds so like loud at times but then also very pretty as well in different parts, like you said. Definitely gonna check it fully soon.
User avatar #3572 to #3571 - themagicwizard ONLINE (01/26/2015) [-]
I dunno if it was even sampled, I think it's just instrumental recordings. Like instruments with stuff stuck in them to make them sound weird.

My descriptions are always on point.

Then HP Lovecraft was born 15 years after Crowley. Plenty of odd and creative people around that time. Imagine some sort of collaboration between the three of them. I bet they could come up with some crazy mythology.

User avatar #3539 to #3538 - themagicwizard ONLINE (01/17/2015) [-]

Still, I don't think it's really my cup of tea

Maybe someday I'll mature and be cool enough to listen to it though
User avatar #3541 to #3540 - themagicwizard ONLINE (01/17/2015) [-]
Maybe someday...

I'm usually not into noise at all. Something about that one really gets me though. I think it's because it's not straight up loud, harsh sounds smashing into your ears the whole time. You can totally hear layers in it, and a lot of the sounds are just really cool. That and the organ and synth stuff, which is always good.

I've been listening to a bunch of stuff by this composer Alexander Scriabin today, and I'm learning some short piano pieces by him. He was a really weird guy towards the end of his life. He was in the middle of putting together this multimedia project that was supposed to bring an end to the world at this ceremony in the Himalayas, then he died. Such a shame.

User avatar #3542 to #3541 - ultrablue (01/17/2015) [-]
I mean, checking that EP out again, and I think I thought this the first time you showed it to me, the 2nd track I find a lot more pleasurable than the first. At least the first half of the first song. Too much chaos.. the 2nd song is chaotic but sounds a lot more purposeful to my ears, where as the 1st sounds more random. I don't mind a burst of noise here or there (the 2nd song on the Cheese Stank EP has that) but usually I can only take so much.

That's a pretty hideously hilarious amazing concept lol. I like this you linked me. You could probably do a great silent animated film to this. It's pretty dynamic in that way.
User avatar #3543 to #3542 - themagicwizard ONLINE (01/17/2015) [-]
He called the whole event "Mysterium". It was supposed to last 7 days and every human, plant and animal was supposed to be in attendance. The part of music for the beginning of it that he had partially composed was picked up by another guy in the 1990s who kind of brought it together and filled in spots so it would be playable. It ended up being about 3 hours long. It sounds ominous and mysterious as **** . It probably would have been a pretty wild occasion if it ever happened.

Scriabin sounds like a real bro. A true fellow visionary of insanity!
User avatar #3545 to #3544 - themagicwizard ONLINE (01/17/2015) [-]
Apparently he was way into mysticism and used his synesthesia with sounds and colors to make his own tonal system which he kept developing over the course of his life.

He was one of those guys that people were either in awe of or disgusted by. His situation was like the opposite of an undiscovered artist who becomes famous after death. He was extremely famous during his lifetime, then after he died, the Soviets took over and didn't like his music so they basically banned it and he was forgotten for a long time.

You should definitely do it. Draw mystical symbols on the pizza boxes too.

I don't know when I'll listen to it in full. It's like 3 symphonies in a row. I know I'll marathon it at some point, though.

I guess so, but the approach to it seems really different to me. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly has a different range of moods it's going for and never runs with one idea for that long even if it comes back in a bunch of different tracks. I do see what you mean though. That's an interesting comparison I hadn't thought of.

The track 'Il Forte" definitely gives me that exact same vibe, gotta be the trumpet.

I'm trying to get all these pops out of the recording. This is a Goodwill quality record so it has some crap on it. I might finish that tonight or it might be tomorrow.

DOWNER INCOMING READ NO FURTHER IF YOU WANT TO MAINTAIN YOUR GOOD MOOD

Man, I don't feel good about anything right now. I visited my grandpa today, probably for one of the last times. I love this guy so much and he's just been wasting away over the last few months from cancer.

END SADNESS: NORMAL POST RESUMING

For some reason I haven't imported that album into itunes yet. Just got the zip file sitting in my downloads folder for however long it's been since you showed it to me. I love it though. I listened to the whole album when you posted it the first time. So dreamy. It's just been sitting in my ever-growing cloud of bandcamps you've sent me that I dig.
User avatar #3382 to #3381 - ultrablue (10/27/2014) [-]
Well **** , son. I'm sorry to hear that. If you ever need to talk I'm here of course

But yeah, I've been playing that album tons since its release. I think it's ever so slowly inching its way into my favorite albums of the year.

Anyway, gotta go or something. But I'll be back at some other time.
User avatar #3383 to #3382 - themagicwizard ONLINE (10/27/2014) [-]
I don't think I really need to, I don't know what there is to say anyway. I just feel terrible.

Later, breh. See you whenever you're done with your unspecified doings.

I have a few albums that I really love that came out this year, and I hardly ever have any idea when artists I like are going to release something new. One of them might release something between now and January 1st that blows me away. We'll see.

It looks like Muslimgauze's ghost has settled down a little this year, he's only released 2 new albums in 2014 so far, as opposed to 5 last year. I listened to the album Cobra Head Soup by him again today. It was really good, part of one of the songs really heavily reminded me of Burial, which I though was really cool.

I don't think you ever did... which is shocking cause this stuff sounds pretty fantastic. I need to listen to those songs fully when I get my headphones on.. currently I'm at my friend's house and just played it straight through the laptop speakers. But yeah, sounds pretty middle easterny sweet.
User avatar #3387 to #3386 - themagicwizard ONLINE (10/27/2014) [-]
If you download something of his, make sure to turn the volume down because everything by him is mixed extremely loud.

I love his stuff. You're sure I've never told you about him? He's a British dude that was way into Palestinian freedom and made an album basically every week until he died in 1999. He recorded so much stuff that multiple albums of his are still being released every year.
User avatar #3388 to #3387 - ultrablue (10/27/2014) [-]
Nope, none of this sounds familiar haha. But I'm glad I'm hearing it now. I'll be sure to youtube more songs when I get home, which should be shortly.

Thanks, bb. I need AAAAAAAALLLL the tracks. Made will just have to settle for being 3rd to last.

After 9/11, I remember in my elementary school, they made us sing that song every morning. For some reason it has some sort of special place in my heart now, even though it's on some patriotic steroids, which I'm not down with. But the cheesiness adds something to it that still makes it kind of good. lol.

I'll always consider Made to be the closer, and Dobermins/Fins are bonuses. Fins is sweet, I've listened to it a couple times now.

I live for that patriotism roidage. It makes me laugh so much, but it's just reached a point where I genuinely enjoy it because of that. I love those outrageous American stereotypes too.

Pretty good, squid free for sure. That Schubert Impromptu is coming along. I was checking out some of the pile of records I got last weekend earlier today, I dun gud.

I went to a big book sale last weekend and they had a ton of records too. For records, I got some cool classical/romantic stuff, and some goofy polka/Polish Christmas records and stuff like that. My friend got one by this psychic reader guy talking about horoscopes, which was fantastic.

We definitely had some controversial moments. I unintentionally insulted black people and Brazilians, then hinted at support for Al Qaeda.

But we did have some other good stuff. We read from a UFO reports book, Chariots of the Gods by Erich von Däniken (Ancient Aliens guy) and Dante's inferno all at the same time over 2 NASA space recordings CDs playing simultaneously. Also another Death Grips song with the swears replaced by quacks, among other things.

Check that. My latest bandcamp purchase. You may like. I thought it was mostly ambient when I got it, but it uses a lot of orchestration as well. Also, his newest album is called Ambient Disaster Movie. AHEM. AMBIENT. DISASTER. MOVIE. How is that not the greatest? I'm gonna peep that next when I get some more mula.

Lolol, the Al Queda thing happened because I was portraying that hipster stereotype of liking something after it's gone out of style, like everyone's moved onto ISIS and Al Qaeda is now an obscure and retro terrorist group.

I see now that I was probably the only one on Earth that got that joke...

I read and wrote a 11 page paper on the Metamorphosis last year.

That's the only thing I've read by him though heeeeeeeeeeeh
User avatar #3313 to #3312 - themagicwizard ONLINE (10/17/2014) [-]
OH SO YOU THINK YOU'RE SOME KIND OF EXPERT NOW, EH???

That's cool. I haven't read anything by him. What's the scoop on that one?
User avatar #3314 to #3313 - ultrablue (10/17/2014) [-]
It's probably his most famous story. Basically it's about a guy who turns into a bug and then tries to cope with his family's reactions to his new state.

When I type the synopsis out like that it sounds like it could be a brand new CBS sitcom or something lol.
User avatar #3315 to #3314 - themagicwizard ONLINE (10/17/2014) [-]
I've read about him a little bit, it sounds like so much is lost in the translation from German.

Now I'm imagining the movie The Fly, and Jeff Goldblum as a giant fly sitting awkwardly with his family at Thanksgiving.
User avatar #3316 to #3315 - ultrablue (10/17/2014) [-]
Almost, except more depressing. They mostly just keep him locked in a room all the time.

I may check out some more Kafka in the future. It was probably the best thing that I read in that class. Most of it was boring and meh and with no sparknotes for the majority of them because most of them were all obscure eastern writers.
User avatar #3317 to #3316 - themagicwizard ONLINE (10/17/2014) [-]
He definitely sounds like a kind of writer I could be into.

You should've bought that up to your professor. "Hey, I noticed that there aren't sparknotes entries for any of these authors. Obviously nobody cares about them, so why do they even matter to us? Let's read Harry Potter instead."
User avatar #3318 to #3317 - ultrablue (10/17/2014) [-]
HAHA I wish. She was Iranian though. She was like salivating when we read some Iranian writers. I think she might have gotten offended if I had suggested a dirty Brit like Harry Potter in place of her homies.

This is some serious next level stuff.

AND ONE MORE THING
www.youtube.com/watch?v=4J2a8zmu0b0
Do you know Hecq? He's got some really nice ambient stuff.
User avatar #3224 to #3223 - ultrablue (09/27/2014) [-]
Thanks, bruh.

I got No Better Time Than Now. Figured I'd start with the newest. It's pretty fantastic.

I spread some of that patriotism for ya, no worries.

Never heard of Hecq. I like it though. I dig when the brief like, vocal synths come in here and there. It reminds me of the Halo song haha. The ambient movement is real. And by movement I mean I am getting more and more ambient **** lol.
User avatar #3225 to #3224 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/27/2014) [-]
I think I'm gonna get on that ambient jam again soon. I occasionally have periods where I just look around and find a bunch of stuff from one genre. I did it with psychedelic rock/abstract psychedelic stuff, then ambient a while ago. Then this whole middle-eastern thing happened and everything went to hell from there. I think I'm ready to start obsessively gathering ambient again.

And deeeyum ******* , it's 5.8GB
User avatar #3226 to #3225 - ultrablue (09/27/2014) [-]
Alright, that's a fookin lot. But, luckily I have 6.4 gb, so it's still just enough. Phew.

I myself can't get out of the rap whirlwind. Most of the new releases that I've listened to this year have been rap albums.

Speaking of new ambient releases though, I think I showed you 36 before right? Well he put out a new album in July and I really need to but that soon because that **** sounds immaculate. 3six.bandcamp.com/
#3227 to #3226 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/27/2014) [-]
Oh sheeit, yeah. I remember that guy, sweet. I'll check that out. Gotta see what my ambient dudes are up to. I'm terrible at keeping track of artists and when they release stuff.

No Better Time than Now is awesome, did I tell you I talked with him for a few minutes after a show a couple months ago? I should have asked him if he had any collaborations with rappers in the works/in mind, or new stuff in general. But I always blow it in those situations and basically just compliment them on the show and their music.

FJ continues to be no fun
User avatar #3228 to #3227 - ultrablue (09/27/2014) [-]
Yeah, actually that's exactly how I am with meeting musicians or whoever. I met one of my favorite bands, Anti-Flag, years ago, and I had all the chances in the world to talk about so much **** , and I just was like "uhh yeah, I like you guys. heh." Lame ass lame.

LOL I love your responses though. Troll game be like woah.

Hahaha that would actually be great. Usually people who try to pawn their music off on random people it's like, ****** rap or some indie stuff. It would be a nice twist to hand out some strange experimental stuff lol.

"So I was in NYC last weekend, and this guy convinced me to take a copy of his mixtape. I put it in yesterday just to see how bad it was... and it's just monkey screeches, chanting and people talking about jews and communists."

HAHAHA I would pay to see that reaction. LOL his mixtape.
User avatar #3235 to #3234 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/27/2014) [-]
One of my friends actually bought a guy's mixtape when we were in NYC one time, I think he might be retarded. He paid the dude $6 for it, and the guy insisted the CD was free, but wanted a "tip." He also advertised it as a jazz CD, even though it was clearly going to be ****** rap. It was the dumbest **** . I think the title was "Love & Politics" and not a single song made reference to either of those things. There was one song about "secret money" or something which made us all lol though. I still have the CD.
User avatar #3236 to #3235 - ultrablue (09/27/2014) [-]

Not much. Music, the usual. Not sure I'm gonna get Destiny now. Don't have enough memory and apparently you can't put it on a usb drive, it has to be an xbox hard drive. So I'm ****** unless I wanna spend even more money on a new xbox hard drive AND a transfer cable which I don't even have the money for and I'm not sure how long they are gonna keep making 360 games so it probably wouldn't even be worth it. So you may be Destinying without me still :/

lol, what a sad paragraph. If I was in your position, I'd definitely consider getting a hard drive because I'm going to continue using it/getting old games for it for the foreseeable future. I still buy games for my original xbox.

You can't transfer some other stuff from your hard drive to a usb?

I'm chilling, listening to Aphex Twin's new album, Syro. It's pretty cool.

What were you up to in NYC?
User avatar #3174 to #3173 - themagicwizard ONLINE (09/11/2014) [-]
I went there with my sister because she had a grad school fair/convention thing. While she was at that for 3 hours, I checked out the new Trade Center building/monuments. They had 2 huge spotlight setups going, it was crazy. You could look straight up and they just kept going. I wonder how much power that took. I also got a great picture of an asian couple taking pictures of it in that hilarious way asians take pictures.

Haven't listened fully yet. Plan on buying this weekend prolly.

This sounds exactly like Mend from 2010. I love it. Can't wait for the piano and voice ones.
User avatar #3142 to #3122 - ultrablue (07/29/2014) [-]
Hey, broseph, do you want this album? I'm listening to it again right now, and it's still great. Really reminiscent of early Bibio stuff. I'll mediafire it for you if you wish.
User avatar #3143 to #3142 - themagicwizard ONLINE (07/30/2014) [-]
Oh golly, i sure would! Thanks man.

I actually have something to give you in return, if you want it. I have an old EP he released in 2007 under the name Post-Foetus.
User avatar #3144 to #3143 - ultrablue (07/30/2014) [-]
Absolutely, why not. Is it in the vein off Baths or Geotic or something totally different than both of those?

Uploading Morning Shore now. Hope AAC files are ok again.
User avatar #3145 to #3144 - themagicwizard ONLINE (07/30/2014) [-]
GOD DAMN YOU AND YOUR AAC FILES Yeah, it doesn't really matter to me.

I dunno, I still have to really check it out. I haven't listened to every song on it yet. From what I've listened to, it's kinda in between, it has vocals anyway. It came before Geotic though.

I'll upload it now.
User avatar #3146 to #3145 - ultrablue (07/30/2014) [-]
HMMMMM INTRIGUING

The next Geotic album is supposed to be voice based, while this one was guitar based. I wonder what that'll sound like... is there another Geotic album that uses a lot of voice? I just thought he used singing in Baths
User avatar #3147 to #3146 - themagicwizard ONLINE (07/30/2014) [-]
I think he used his voice in Winter Loops, but it was all chopped up. I'm pretty sure he never did an entirely vocal ep or album as Geotic, though, so it'll be something new. I'm excited for that and the piano one, I'm sure they'll sound pretty cool. I love messing around with piano sounds.

Looks like his angelfire page with all the free Geotic stuff just got taken down. GOOD THING I DOWNLOADED ALL OF IT OVER A YEAR AGO!

GAY DONKEY ORGY, MY FAVORITE.

It was all taken down because it's all on bandcamp now! And all still free (besides Morning Shore).

But yeah, I too am excited for both of those. I think the voice one is going to be very interesting. VERRY VERRRRY interesting.

Oh, good. I'm glad it wasn't just deleted forever.

In other news, you know that A Hawk and a Hacksaw song I played in plug.dj? God Bless the Ottoman Empire. The album it's on is great, I think you might like some of it. But what do I know? I feel like clunkybot would be into them, if he was still with us.

This one's like western movie soundtrack smashed together with eastern european/middle eastern folk.

It reminded me of the first time he showed me A Silver Mt. Zion.

I wonder where he is now, probably moved on to bigger and better sites, *********** on head-fi or something.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure he lives in Colorado.

You nincompoop, you had a chance to see him and bring him back to life and you failed! Gosh dang it.

Well, if he is in Collyraidhoes, maybe he's just been high 24/7 with no regard for FJ and has reached a new intimacy with his music. We may never know for sure.
User avatar #3153 to #3152 - themagicwizard ONLINE (07/30/2014) [-]
I know, he's told me he lives there before. I have no idea where in CO, though, and I'm not just gonna bust into his house to tell him to come back on FJ, he might be jacking it or something and It would be awkward.

Awww you pooh c

I've barely listened to any music at all this week, actually. I've just been doing stuff with some friends in Colorado. I have listened to Plains of the Purple Buffalo by *shels a few times, though. That album is amazing. Beautiful west-core.
User avatar #3125 to #3124 - ultrablue (07/16/2014) [-]
I'll check it. I've got some foreign type stuff to show you eventually soonish.

Ahh yes, Colorado, I remember. I was wondering why you've been absent. Makes sense now.

I'm getting back on the 18th and I'll have no internet, at least for a few days anyway.

What's this about foreign stuff now?
User avatar #3127 to #3126 - ultrablue (07/16/2014) [-]
Well, I don't have all of it, but I found this band that does like folk stuff but they're some type of middle eastern. Forgot the name atm but it's good and I think you'd dig it. There was something else too, but I can't remember the name either. I saved their names in my artist document though.

Also, ************* Christopher Tin.

Hamsafar - Christopher Tin (feat. Sussan Deyhim)

Christopher Tin - Kia Hora Te Marino

Christopher Tin - Baba Yetu (feat. Soweto Gospel Choir)

This one you may have heard before. Most popular one and it was in Civ IV
User avatar #3128 to #3127 - themagicwizard ONLINE (07/16/2014) [-]
I've never played any of the Civ games, but I've wanted to get Civ V for a while now.

I haven't listened to anything by Christopher Tin before, but there's something about it I'm not digging. I've never liked that kind of combination of western harmony/instrumentation and random non-western stuff. I don't know why, but i've always hated it with a passion, and I have to do it in choir all the time because apparently it makes choir directors piss their pants with joy.

Sorry for the super negative response. That just happens to be one of those things I actually have an opinion on.
User avatar #3130 to #3128 - ultrablue (07/16/2014) [-]
Don't you like that one Egyptian band that plays funk though?

Or are you just talking about classical/contemporary music specifically?
User avatar #3132 to #3130 - themagicwizard ONLINE (07/16/2014) [-]
Oh, do you mean Tinariwen, those Malian guys who play bluesy stuff?
User avatar #3133 to #3132 - ultrablue (07/16/2014) [-]
Haha yes, I couldn't remember the exact details
User avatar #3134 to #3133 - themagicwizard ONLINE (07/16/2014) [-]
Nah, that's different to me. Their own style takes the lead and it's something I'm unfamiliar with, and that's what I really enjoy. There are some other bands like them, but something about them rubs me the right way. Like you know my husbando, Ihsan Ozgen? He did a collab album with his ensemble and a jazz band. I didn't dig that at all.

But I think the main thing I'm not into is the orchestral kind of setting. That's another thing I'm just not into on its own either, modern orchestral stuff like that. I know it's done all the time with bigger budget video games and movies, but in those cases, I have something to associate it with, and there's some sort of element to the sound that's tailored towards the genre or style of the game/movie it's connected to. Maybe if I knew his stuff from games I might be more okay with it, I dunno.
User avatar #3135 to #3134 - ultrablue (07/16/2014) [-]
Interesting, but yeah that's what I was asking if it was mainly just like orchestrated contemporary stuff that you feel that way about.

Interesting too about the movie/video game thing. I dunno if I feel the same way when I listen to those. In some regard I associate them with that, but I like to think I can separate both music and medium enough to enjoy them individually. I dunno. It depends. I know I always enjoyed playing stuff we had to play back when I was in band in middle school so maybe it comes from that. Also, something about group chanting in other languages always gets me, no matter what kind of music it's in. Love that **** .
User avatar #3136 to #3135 - themagicwizard ONLINE (07/16/2014) [-]
I can definitely separate them and enjoy them individually, I listen to video game soundtracks as much as any neckbeard, but I really like when they have some unique element that they had to have to make them fit in with whatever they were made for, like the Assassin's Creed 1 soundtrack or Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow with all that great breakbeat, subdued spy sounding stuff, and movie soundtracks like Moon with all its bleepy space station noises or The Machinist, where the whole thing is so eerie and the theremin just makes it.
#3137 to #3136 - ultrablue (07/16/2014) [-]
Well, I'll give you daps for mentioning Moon and The Machinist
Well, I'll give you daps for mentioning Moon and The Machinist
User avatar #3138 to #3137 - themagicwizard ONLINE (07/16/2014) [-]

I need to look into why I enjoy things some more so I can explain myself more accurately.
User avatar #3139 to #3138 - ultrablue (07/16/2014) [-]
Well, I mean, it really is a hard thing to pinpoint. I often feel "I just like it" or "I just don't like it" is a valid argument, because over analyzing it can be dizzying. This is why shib.e gets into thousands of lengthy thread arguments trying to explain himself with whatever the **** he's talking about lol.
User avatar #3140 to #3139 - themagicwizard ONLINE (07/16/2014) [-]
That's true, maybe just a little more aware of why I like things, and only with people who I actually want to give an explanation to.
