My hope is in backpack PCs for room scale experience - it would be a lot easier to find a space to play just for the remainder of a session without messing up the apartment or stepping on your kids toys...or a kid )

Room scale is a no go for me - I have 2 bedroom apartment and a kid. And a lot of stuff. I can't even move my table because it's a tank among tables (seriously)...I couldn't rearrange stuff to fashion out a space large enough to take a full step in every direction - after we changed furniture I've lost the ability to use kinect. But I would still go for vive of course if I had to choose right now. Or osvr hdk2 since they seem to be going in the right direction with it and hdk2 has the same screen setup as vive and oculus. But it has its problems, maimly (ironically) because it's open source (and very young) so it's a complete mess deveopment-wise now and almost completely non usable positional tracking ATM. But it's a lot cheaper for basically the exact same tech as oculus. And yeah - vive demos are in my city aswell.

I've got a 1 bedroom apartment myself. Thankfully my table is small enough to move out of the way. Give's me 2x2 meter square to work with. Still pretty great. More space would be neat-o though.

I sure hope so because I've been wainting for years for good VR. It's one of my biggest childhood dreams to own VR gear. Well, I've waited a long long time - I probably can wait a bit more. I have tried it and decided to do so. Still, It hurts a bit a lot seeing everybody having so much fun with it. Especially that most of my "high demands" are really dictated by how much money $1000 is for me...

It really is a whole lot of fun. I'd say that when you're saving up your money and reach the point of choosing one, I would really go for the Vive even though it's a little more expensive. The room scale is more than worth it and makes you feel like you're really there. Also Steam is boss. I don't know if you live near any big cities, but I know Vive demos are coming up at certain places. You should try it out!

That's why I said I want to wait - I did the same with the first smartphone. If they didn't require a PC so strong and the cost alone would be under 1000 bucks for the whole experience- hell, I'm poor but I would save up the money. I still probably could buy the whole package with the PC later in the year but for me: I'm not that wealthy that the cost justifies the quality available in the current status quo. As for the lens - I mean godrays and this "shimmering" - it can get tiring fast in certain games and I tend to like the space sims the most so you know. Yeah, there are a few games for VR now but just a few - rest really are tech demos. Current state of VR is for wealthy early adopters which I'm not. As for how vive looks - that was more like a joke than a real problem.

All fair complaints in my book. I'm enjoying my Vive alot, but it's definitely not for the majority of consumers at this point. All I can say though is that there is definitely a bright future IMO.
