I'm an American student, and that's about how much I'll owe as well

why? because I have scholarships.
college is expensive if you don't succeed. it's manageable if you're smart.
User avatar #27 - gallifreyan (06/03/2013) [-]
College is expensive as shit for Americans. The most government funding (not loans or scholarships) will give you is $5,000, and that's only if you meet certain criteria. The average tuition is almost $20,000. The average annual tuition (plus expenses) at a private nonprofit four-year college is about $35,000. Both figures are Per year.

Community colleges run significantly lower, but are limited in what they teach, and few go for a 4-year offer. The community college here is $500 a year, plus books and it has no lodgings on campus.
#110 - anon (06/03/2013) [-]
Universities in Iraq are the most expensive.

You have to first build a University, then pay lecturers and then attend it

That is a brilliant read. I'm an American college student and I had to write a paper on why the rich are getting richer while the poor get poorer. My conclusion was revolution, but sadly most "citizens" are ignorant to whats going on around them while reality TV keeps their minds from such abstract thoughts.
User avatar #79 - fukkendragonite (06/03/2013) [-]
As a British citizen, I can't say we're much better. But this is pretty much true. It definitely is a scary thought for the American future. If their economy collapses, you have a bad combination of:

-No Money
-No job
-No food
-BUT LOTS OF GUNS.

You're forced to fight in the ensuing chaos for what you want and need to survive. And with no healthcare system like we have here in the NHS, there's a large chance there will be a lot of deaths, because nobody has money for medical treatment.
User avatar #88 - theshadowed (06/03/2013) [-]
We've got a good police force!
User avatar #93 - fukkendragonite (06/03/2013) [-]
hmm... in places yeah. Sometimes they're quite good. I think our medical system is great tbh. The NHS take a lot of shit in the media but it's the media's job to be overly critical. I think we're very lucky to have them. Education is also something we do well I think.

Immigration and our political system are the areas that need reform. Nobody has got the balls to fix the floods of immigrants coming over. All of the politicians are either too scared to slow down immigration or they're racists who would throw out everyone who isn't white (i.e. BNP and UKIP). I like our multicultural society, but too many come here and sit on benefits.
User avatar #95 - theshadowed (06/03/2013) [-]
I agree We need to sort out our benefits, which will lead to fixing the immigration problem. We need to disband the House of Lords, or at least kick the bloody bishops out
User avatar #104 - fukkendragonite (06/03/2013) [-]
This may be the golden phrase here, but just hear me out:

I'm not racist but.... immigration is a big problem. It's not a race thing, it's just I know a lot more immigrants who've come here to sit on benefits and not contribute. It's a system of "get him in the country, we'll find him a job later through job centres and employment schemes etc..." and that doesn't always work.

If immigrants want to come here and work then that's great. I'm flattered that they've chosen my country to do that in and I'm more than happy to have them here. If they're here to scrounge, then they can fuck off. In Australia, you basically cannot get into the country unless you have a certifiable skill (i.e. Plumber, electrician etc...) and even then, if they have too many people doing that job already, they tell you they already have a full quota of that job at the moment and you're denied entry to the country. I don't want something that extreme tbh, but something good like that.
User avatar #94 - fukkendragonite (06/03/2013) [-]
But this is my point. My country is flawed, but not nearly as much as America
User avatar #42 - gallifreyan (06/03/2013) [-]
Damn. The sad part is, As an American, I find that to be very logical and reasonable. Unfortunately, an uneducated, poor, unemployed flake like me can't afford to move country at all, though I'd like to visit Japan (INB4 weaboo; I have friends and teachers there I'd like to visit) and England.

I know the place is falling apart, but as the textbook American that I am, I can do nothing to change it.

"I can do nothing to change it" "I can do nothing to change it!! for today!!"

I stress this as much as I can to my friends and anybody who will listen.

You can make tons of change, but you have to start in the least likely place that you thought. Local government. As we are a federal constitutional republic the most power is in our vote. A vote for a local politician is the closest that we have for changing out lives but often local politics is left in the nursery homes. So vote local and vote often.

I'm going to pharmacy school, and at the end of the next three years, in addition to my undergraduate study costs, I am going to owe roughly $170,000, $220,000 paid back with interest.
Don't believe me?
lecom.edu/financial-aid.php/Your-Cost-of-Attending-the-LECOM-Erie-School-of-Pharmacy/49/2205/621/2476
