What we have now is a bunch of privileged white women (typically of highschool age through collage) getting offended on behalf of minorities for 'culture appropriation'. Apparently not only is their culture sacred and needs to be preserved, you are absolutely filth if you want to share in their culture. I've heard heard the claim that eating a fucking TACO is racist.

Quite the inverse problem.
User avatar #75 - krobeles (10/16/2014) [-]
This is actually a point that worries me. One half our education system has been broken for about 20 years now, and these people are just about grown up now. We have an aweful lot of people who think they're educated but are not, and who see fault at every turn of the corner. These people have been educated in alot of really aweful retoric devices, which they can use to sway the dumb masses and so we get a plague of movements, who all think they're doing the right thing, all the while poisoning society with their shitty little ideas born of a half baked education and a swollen ego.
User avatar #108 - lyiat (10/16/2014) [-]
A bit less than that. No Child Left Behind is what really fucked everything over. That was signed into law in 2001. Just over a decade ago.
User avatar #141 - krobeles (10/16/2014) [-]
That name rings a bell but I cant quite place it. Care to elaborate?
User avatar #143 - lyiat (10/16/2014) [-]
The NCLB act. Something Bush Jr enacted while in office that passed with bipartisan support. It lead to the standardization of testing that has been rapidly fucking over students since it's inception.
User avatar #145 - krobeles (10/16/2014) [-]
Alright? But exactly what does it do? When you say "sandardization of testing" I am picturing the same test for every school? Thats not inherently a bad thing, I'd say?
User avatar #146 - lyiat (10/16/2014) [-]
I take it you're not an American?

Every student in every school is required to take four tests per year. Each test is exactly the same, universally, with no alteration for the individual student's knowledge, ability, or disability. Students in special education will be taking the same exact test as students in advanced placement courses. Students that are ahead are culled back into the herd with problems far under their level, and students that are behind are forced to catch up to everyone else even if they may currently be struggling. That is not how education works. No other country on the planet does shit like that. Since No Child Left Behind was signed into law, America has dropped like a stone when it comes to education compared to other nations.
User avatar #148 - lyiat (10/16/2014) [-]
Said tests also will typically account for a good 30% of any given students grade. You could do everything perfectly all year. Flub your test, you can drop an entire letter grade or more.
User avatar #155 - krobeles (10/16/2014) [-]
Alright, yeah. That sounds alittle wierd. How come nobody has rectified that yet?

And yes. I'm not American.
User avatar #159 - lyiat (10/16/2014) [-]
Because you must think of the children! Why won't anyone think of the children!

Basically the same fucktarded reason anything else happens. People don't actually educate themselves on the laws and policies being voted on. They find a politician with a winning smile to reassures them that it's the right thing to do and accuse the person against said policy of being unpatriotic and against "X", in this case the education of our youth.
User avatar #63 - lyiat (10/16/2014) [-]
Not unless it comes back. This was a thing like 20-30 years ago. The only time you ever hear people whining about it now are in the reddest of the red states, and it's typically over Muslims or Mexicans refusing to speak English in American schools.

'Cept this is the complaint being made in Europe, especially the UK and Germany. It's not a popular stance in America.
User avatar #62 - theblacksheep (10/16/2014) [-]
I'd be willing to bet after 2 or 3 years on a State University's campus a lot of American students hold this, or similar, viewpoints.
