This happened to my brother too, but while applying for Medical school. most of the time he was turned away because he was too white, had better grades then most, but their white quota was filled. I can see evidence of this bullshit system as I go to college as well, I've met people who are not only given a free ride to college, but they're actually paid to be there after all is said and done. When the majority of the population is white, on campus they appear to be a minority, there's something going on.

User avatar #59 - theblacksheep (01/26/2015) [-]
I mean.. obviously the second one was exaggerated for effect but it's pretty much the current system. I my self was not one of the students in high school who deserved a full ride in college, but I knew many that were that did not receive it. But who does that's from my town? Two Asians and a black guy. One of the Asians is well below what is normall required, the other just took easy classes in HS to get a good GPA and the black guy was actually pretty close to what would be required for like a half or 2/3 ride... but you know that skin tone pushed it to full ride. Where as my friends, who were white, got better grades and took harder classes than all three of these individuals. They didn't get full rides. Can I call that out in a public setting without being called racist? all of my examples go to the same university so it's controlled in terms of an experiment

what is it you think the federal government does that is so critical to the day to day life of you and I? I don't mean the army, I mean the rest of them.

With 8 million people and 2.4 trillion per year, I could build a stairway to heaven. I would have a moon shuttle hourly. I could unlock the secret of the universe. You know what the government does? Shuts down every three months after bickering about who's dick is bigger between democrats and republicans.

>FDA
>EPA
>FBI
>Police forces
>Utilities (water, electricity gas all government run)
>Teaching staff
> Road maintenance workers
> maintenance crews in general
> fire department
> hospitals
and no you can't

and my point is that with the US government's workforce and GDP I could accomplish far more than they do. 20% of taxes actually make it to the intended goal. The rest is lost in overhead and management costs.
User avatar #109 - sephirothpwnz (01/23/2015) [-]
1. I highly doubt you could, otherwise I would love to see how you would, considering the nature of governments and the typical conservative "I can make this complex thing simple" style of logic seemingly being employed here.
2. Citation needed
User avatar #118 - lean (01/23/2015) [-]
1. Look at what an international company like bayer pharmaceutical does in a year, with 110,000 employees and 39 billion euro revenue. It is mind boggling how inefficiently the government is ran.
2. faculty.washington.edu/karyiu/confer/sea12/papers/SG12-104%20Wang.pdf
read and understand it, that ratio is derived from an average of waste vs capitol gain in yearly GDP. 0 would be a perfect score
User avatar #129 - sephirothpwnz (01/23/2015) [-]
1. A pharmaceutical company, or any company for that manner cannot be compared to that of a government, it is simply too different.
2. now you are making me read. you have no soul. in all seriousness however, I cannot speak about government efficiency(with economics) like this on a longer note as I simply lack the expertise to do so.
User avatar #135 - lean (01/23/2015) [-]
1. I didn't say I would run the government better, I said with that many people and that much money what could be done is virtually limitless, but the government can't seem to make it productive.
2. TLDR: the US gov is the largest, with the most money, and the least efficient of all 10 countries in the study. From a citizen's perspective the return on investment puts USGOV 7th down of 10. Rough math puts % of return/ expense somewhere around 20-25% ratio. Its pretty pathetic.

Federal, buddy. All of those but the FBI, FDA, and EPA are state ran services. Why could states not do all of those things?
User avatar #106 - sephirothpwnz (01/23/2015) [-]
states are part of the federal government buddy
User avatar #110 - lean (01/23/2015) [-]
No they absolutely are not. Complete and separate entities. Do you even American Civics class? Why do you think different states have different laws? Why do different states have different constitutions, flags, legal processes etc.? What you just said is like saying an individual electrician is the Electrician's Union.
User avatar #112 - sephirothpwnz (01/23/2015) [-]
states are under the federal government in terms of structure and authority, they can act as independent entities, but if the federal goverment desires so, they can easily overturn anything they do (individually of course, for example if all the states were to legalize marijuanna, then they have the power to overturn the federal authority.) the states don't "have" to follow the standards set by the federal government but are given incentives to do otherwise (I.E drinking age), and electricians are technically government employees

and yes I did I took the AP class and got a 4 on the test
User avatar #121 - lean (01/23/2015) [-]
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._state

The federal government is what the states decide to make it. The states control the federal government, not the other way around. At least that was the original intention.
User avatar #131 - sephirothpwnz (01/23/2015) [-]
it was with the articles of confederations, and guess what that failed miserably because the states simply did whatever they wanted, and there was nothing to reign them in. The federal government is there to keep the states in line, and working together, however the states do have the capacity, if they all work together to overturn the federal government. THAT is how it is set up. That was the original intention.
User avatar #138 - lean (01/23/2015) [-]
Right, individual legal cases and proceedings may go into the highest authority, but the role of the federal government is to mediate state's rights. It doesn't make sense the the federal government is given more money than the states, because they accomplish far less with respect to the people.
