Oh, and last thing for people to note: big boobs doesn't mean big body. I have a large cup size, but my band size is just 32in. Just for the people advising me about clothing!

for summer try getting stuff that's sleeveless. This way you can pull up the top enough to cover your bust. If you don't want your arms out you can always wear a light jacket/cardigan. If your shirt is a bit low cut try getting a strapless bra or sports bra. Sports bra's are MADE for flattening out your chest a bit (so they don't bounce/jiggle) and the strapless bra's (good ones) hold the girls in place better because they have to make up for the lack of straps. www.freshpair.com/Spanx-Bra-cha-cha-Strapless-Bra-217.html?utm_source=shopping&utm_medium=cse&CID=OTC-2991&CA_6C15C=810044838 <--- a strapless bra like that with the bits of silicone at the top to help it stick, and then the regular bra clasps in the back. You can look around for cheaper ones, or just buy one good one and wash it often.
These are my summer tips to you. I hope they help.

Dress doesn't actually cause rapists to rape. It's whether they think they can get away with it or not.
Don't worry about your dress.

Okay sorry if this gets long winded, but it's the tail end of finals week and my brain is still in full essay mode.

I'll assume for a second that you tend to look in womens' clothing. So, to begin, a LOT of womens' clothing is designed to be provocative. You've got short shorts, shirts that expose your midriff, and the cleavage showing neck holes you mentioned. Shit, that's part of why you have pants with no pockets, they're designed to show your figure more. Now this is all a trend created by both men AND women that isn't likely to go away.

So, my advice? Try shopping in Mens' clothes. I'm not even trying to make fun of you here, that shit actually works. And nobody would really give that much of a shit (well someone might but they can blow it out their ass)
#296 - anon (05/16/2014) [-]
I'm in the same situation as she is and men's shirts don't fit AT ALL, they're not designed for boobs so it'd have to be one that's probably XXL.

Well, shit. I forgot about that part.

#248 - theawesomestperson (05/16/2014) [-]
Sounds awesome in theory, but I'm not sure how well it actually works out. I mean, I do like having some shape in my shirts so my body looks good. I have a slim stomach, but that would be hidden by men's tops, right? Not yo mention the (obviously) masculine designs on the shirts.
As per shorts, didn't think of that. Might pop into the guys section next time I go shopping!

Btw, GOOD LUCK IN YOUR EXAMS. I hope they're all going great!

>shorts on the short side
In short, that's the point of shorts, sorry.

That said, the argument isn't for girls who have a little bit of cleavage, efforts taken to reduce it or no, and shorts that are maybe a size too small.

It's against girls that run around in minidresses with no underwear, or for girls that have shorts that are 3 sizes too small and are so ripped up that they barely cover anything and don't wear bras under thin shirts on cold nights, shit like that is what people are usually talking about. You know, slutty stuff.

Not saying they're "right", but there is a point to be made that a lot of girls will give off the messages for being in the mood for a dicking even if they really don't if they wear certain things.

I get why you're upset, and I agree it's overblown, but you gotta remember that there's a reason that that argument came up in the first place.

>Now, explain to me how I can effectively dress in the way that a rapist would not see as provocative?

You can't. Don't even try, just wear what's comfortable for you and maybe carry some pepper spray.

What a lot of people don't seem to want to accept is that a rapist is probably not going to be deterred by the fact that you dressed conservatively. Rapists are deterred by vigilant attitude, by that I mean being aware of your surroundings and avoid putting yourself in dangerous situations. If I tell you to avoid dark parking lots and sketchy neighborhoods after dark, I'm not perpetuating rape culture, I'm promoting common god damn sense.

And since you mentioned walking around topless let me just go ahead and point this out. If you walked around in the park topless, would I check you out? You bet your jiggling tatas I would. Would I rape you? Fuck no, that's insane. Same as if you saw some studly dude playing football shirtless or something. You'd check him out, your inclination to rape him would remain relatively unchanged.

Honestly who cares. Its one thing when you only feel comfortable wearing clothing that doesn't accentuate overly sexualized features but its another thing, an awfully idiotic thing, when you're dressing a certain way to just to please a specific audience so as to not tempt others.

there are plenty of women who can dress beautifully and not provocatively.

Agreed. And I understand that, and I try do that. But I'm just explaining that it isn't very easy, and that for all my efforts, someone might think I choose to wear tight shirts, which according to some people's logic, is me asking for rape.

I'd advise people to avoid dark alleyways, confrontation, walking around unfamiliar places in the early hours, and try not to draw attention to yourself to avoid: mugging, rape violence etc. etc. etc.
While I will not say that someone asked for or deserved rape. Assuming a person had absolutely nothing they could have done to avoid their fate (in any situation) victimizes the person, and makes it seem they are weak and feeble which is definitely not a view that anyone should take.
If you do wish to attempt to dress un-provocatively perhaps hoodies and baggy trousers to conceal your form.
Concerning shirtless guys don't provoke you to rape them, I'd like to assume that most people don't want (or at least would never follow through) with rape, however Psychopaths do exist, and unless we go into a very unethical society they are in public. Most of the reason that I feel education isn't the best course of action (though I could be being too nice to people and the majority do indeed need education that rape is a bad thing). And assuming a psychopath will go for someone who draws attention to themselves is not an incredible leap of logic.

#268 - hoponthefeelstrain (05/16/2014) [-]
I don't know many people who CHOOSE to walk down dark alleyways and such. These things usually happen if you get lost or maybe separated from your group ect.

Most rapes are by people the victim knows. Most rapes aren't "spur of the moment" things, usually they're well planned and something the rapist has been contemplating on for a while.
#507 - chillins (05/16/2014) [-]
fastest way back home is a possible reason someone walks down a dark alleyway. And as I feel this covers the random side (which does still occur even if not as often) and perhaps a bit of the planned side how would you add to my list of advice so we can perhaps cover the 'colleague' side of things? Or is that not possible without being incredibly paranoid?
#186 - chillins (05/15/2014) [-]
Though as you said it is the summer, so hoodies arnt exactly perfect, though im not a big clothes person so I wouldn't know what the best thing would be.

#204 - theawesomestperson (05/15/2014) [-]
Thanks for your advice. I don't feel particularly threatened at all, as I don't often walk around alone in situations that could potentially be dangerous.
But it really frustrates me when people say girls(or boys, even) asked to be raped by what they wore. It's not true, and like you, we should be blaming the rapist, not the victim.
#180 - mikimowse (05/15/2014) [-]
I kind of agree with you. I agree with the first part of your argument, about the clothing. Me, being a curvaceous petite person, I find it very hard to find appropriate clothing, especially for the summer! If you have time on your hands, consider sewing. That's what I've done, and it works really well. I just sew my own clothes.
#178 - romneykun (05/15/2014) [-]
It also depends on where you shop, and where that ego of yours is.

#191 - theawesomestperson (05/15/2014) [-]
Well, I tried all the general clothes stores in my town - Penny's, River Island, New Look ect. I couldn't find many regular sized shorts and the ones that were okay, were quite ugly. So, I'm sure there are great shops out there with normal shorts, but not around where I live.

The first time I had sex it was with a new friend of mine, who was a girl, wanted a bit of company after school at her house. I thought it was going to be a fun and jolly time, maybe watch a movie, I had no intention of FUCKING her. She pulled my pants off, jumped on my lap and had me fuck her, she was kinda big. I did not enjoy it. I walked home after she did her business, and then later I got a call from the cops saying that I caused trouble with a girl at school.
For a year I was worried that I may have gotten her pregnant, even though she was the one who jumped onto me and held me down and fucked me.
And then I see her in the hallway or in class and I cringe every time. It was the most stressful part of my life.

I don't think rape has anything to do with being provoked, just a matter of if you wanted to do it or not. Regardless of what you wear. So that argument, in my opinion, is fucking stupid.

Psychology? In my personal opinion rape only happens because others get away with it. No ones gonna lie females get raped more often no matter how much some ass tries to defend it. Anyway... Men get depressed or something and realize rape is like a fucking common thing nowadays so they try their hand at it. No matter how someone is dressed. I don't see why everyone's bitching about the way women dress. Men dress pretty fucking stupidly as well

All Im saying is. Shit happens and people are trying to fix something that probably can't be fixed. People are bitching about the human brain.
