My brother's Army Special Forces, he and his SF buddies don't like wearing their dress uniform or anything camo in public. Being on an army base, he told me whenever they go out and see someone wearing their dress uni's out to dinner they all just want to jump the guy, not out of any retarded bullying or triage bullshit, they just immediately don't like those guys. 2 years ago after his graduation ceremony he didn't have a change of clothes and had to wear his dress uniform when we went out to eat. He looked around uncomfortably the whole time and he said, "I just want to punch myself in the face." He's too humble and he does appreciate it when people come up and thank him, he says anyone who see's his green beret and understands what it symbolizes seem to try even harder to show their respect, but he feels like wearing his dress uniform is just asking for it.
This is obviously different since he's around kids, but point is there are several ways soldiers and vets want to be recognized and carry themselves.

I'm going to disagree with you. My friend is a Marine and he wears his ACU's when he's off the base. Typically he's only in his class A uniform when he's going to a formal engagement with his girlfriend or occasionally when he comes back to visit our old high school.

you are absolutely right my friend. although I gave it the benefit of the doubt that this wasn't actually OC (big surprise on funnyjunk, right?) and that it may have actually been taken during spring/summer months. but the point still stands that he is off base in cammies.

I think more kids today recognize a soldier in camo than in their blues, especially the youngest elementary schoolers. I would also say that with the recent wars taking place almost entirely in desert conditions, most of the media kids see soldiers in has them dressed in their desert fatigues.
