You see physical attractiveness is based on social construct and not fact. I can disagree with it. But you are right in the fact that I don't really account for physical attractiveness when I judge wether or not I find someone attractive. She looks like a nicer person and a more conservative girl. Both of which I find appealing characteristics, but I don't really feel like discussing these things.

It's quite apperent you don't know that taste is a personal matter. What you might see as below average is my above average. I find the girl in the picture provided more attractive than the girl in the content.

Actually it's quite the opposite. When I am attracted to someone I think of them as a potential partner. And I would prefer a girl who is less out going and doesn't look like she is going for a one night stand.

That's good to hear on the internet.

Too many pervs and whatnot here.

Kudos to you, sir.

Physically attractive? No. Clearly most men would disagree with you there.

But neither of those women are below average, even though you said the women in the OP is. Thre are far less attractive women, and even less attractive ones than that. The woman you posted is closer to average than the girl in the OP though. Sure people have different standards, but we all have general guidelines and things we agree on.

And if they choose not to hire a candidate based on their race, they'd have to also be able to prove that the candidate they chose was at least as qualified as the candidate they turned down. And if that is the case, that the chosen candidate can't be significantly under-qualified compared to the rejected candidates, then face-to-face interviews could still be conducted, because the company would be held accountable if they didn't hire someone who was more qualified.

It's not exactly a far fetched notion. For example, You go into welfare and say you're white, how much longer does it take to get anything than it does for any minority?

So instead of giving people handouts it would make more sense to implement laws that make racial preference harder. Like taking the race/gender part off of applications. Or maybe requiring companies to send out the qualifications of the candidate that did get the job, so that if there was bias against someone who was objectively more qualified, they could take action against it.
User avatar #170 - thatawesomekid (12/11/2014) [-]
That may be worth trying. At the same time though, they could simply choose not to hire the person over the other candidates they have lined up because of their race. To truly eliminate racial profiling in the workplace like that, the interview would have to be done without the employer even seeing the employee until after he is hired.

Affirmative action ends up with people favoring minorities, even if they may not be the most qualified for the position. It is an unfair treatment, to the people who are not helped by it. We don't need affirmative action, we need equal opportunity and impartial application acceptance/hiring practices. Race should not be anywhere on the application, because that's only furthering the idea that race matters. If you're qualified for a position, why does it matter what color your skin is? If you're not qualified for a job, it shouldn't matter either.
User avatar #154 - thatawesomekid (12/10/2014) [-]
Yes, I agree, affirmative action shouldn't exist. The problem is, it's arguably a necessary evil, since employers often discriminate against people due to their race. Some studies even find that people with criminal backgrounds are more likely to get an interview than a black person. While it shouldn't matter what color your skin is, the unfortunate reality is racism and prejudice still exist, and stereotypes against certain races are all too well known.

You've been brainwashed by everyone else. To actually believe what you believe, is mindboggling. I don't have enough faith to be an atheist.
