But by not believing that any deities do exist, it must then hold true that you believe that no deities exist. Plus, looking at the word itself and its peers; monotheism, belief in one god. Pantheism, belief in many gods. Any other word such as those deals with belief, yet the prefix "a" somehow converts that to mean only lack of belief and not belief in no god? Call me pretentious, but I'm going to have to say Wikipedia is wrong on this. After all, it is the free encyclopedia anyone can edit, what, apart from mods and edit reverts, is to prevent me from going on and changing the definition of atheism to "a strong feeling that you have a purple echidna in your left pants leg"?

True on pantheism, been a while since I've heard its definition and the bloody idiots around me always get the two confused, must have rubbed off. Just like how they don't know the difference between agnosticism and atheism, it's painful at times. An inaccurate memory does not equal ignorance though, and as I am definitely not proprietor of an eidetic memory, that wasn't very nice.

Not believing god exists is the same as believing it does not. It's not arbitrary. There's no Schrodingerian position in which god simultaneously is and is not believed in because you do not believe it does. Until you have evidence that it does not exist, you believe it does not.
Now, should I call you ignorant for your lapse in coherence in that first sentence, or should I accept that people make mistakes? I think the latter.

Asexuals believe they have no sexual preference. And it's not physical as far as I'm concerned, asexuality is purely mental as sexual attraction relies on the brain. if people believe they have no sexual attractions to others, then do atheists not believe they have no higher power to believe in?

And you know how there's an edit button at the top right of a page on Wikipedia? Kinda means ANYBODY can edit so long as they can find that button. No permission needed, there just has to be a check BY a mod or magical fairy princess and approval from the same.

It depends on feedback from the users as to whether or not it's a ripoff in a good way. I mean it works, if the majority likes it and Reddit doesn't have any problems with it, then yeah, it's ripoff in a good way. I can't see why Reddit would take offense with our taking of the "children" idea though, as I'm sure many other sites use it too, don't they?

no i know. i set it to highest rated comments myself when i first joined the site a year ago. i meant the whole thing with [+] 4 children or whatever. that sucks. i hate it. that just randomly happened about 2 or 3 months ago and i assumed it was like that for everyone else as well. i dont get why people are just now complaining about it. like im genuinely confused

We do need a better screening system for all teachers, not just language teachers. I can't count the number of times we just sat in class and the teacher just babbled on about their personal life/ hated kids/ didn't know what they were doing. There' s been plenty of times where I had to figure out what we were supposed to learn from a book, or the internet, rather than learn in a place of learning.
User avatar #446 - taxation (01/14/2013) [-]
Quite true too. This year, my math teacher has thus far failed to be of any use and I'm in the process of relearning literally everything from the start of the year until now online. Same goes for English, teacher is a crazy old bat with family issues, whose discourses on religion take up most of the time in which we are supposed to be learning about literary devices and whatnot. I don't understand why schools allow such horrid quality teachers, but at least at my school the students are always brushed aside with no regard to the veracity of our arguments for the necessity of replacements to be hired.

I can somewhat relate. When I was young, I read those Dr. Seuss books. I knew them backwards and forwards. Then my grandmother gave me ones in Spanish and took away the ones in English. I learned basic Spanish that way. That, and my grandmother would pinch me when I didn't say something right. I picked up slang from the kids at school. Then I moved to a town completely full of white people. My Spanish teacher has no idea what he's doing and on several occasions has asked me what a word is or how to say something. He doesn't even have an accent.
User avatar #442 - taxation (01/14/2013) [-]
That's pretty cool! Pity more language teachers don't know the language they're teaching terribly well though, there should be like a screening for that. Why have a French teacher who doesn't know how to conjugate the past tense (as in grade 8), or a Spanish teacher who doesn't recognize that there's a difference between "tu" and "usted"? It just seems wrong, you know what I mean?
User avatar #443 - herefortheporno (01/14/2013) [-]
