Right but the difference is TF2 was bundled and made almost 10 years ago.
(and not by blizzard). And currently free

Overwatch not having ranked is an issue because it was stated in the beta.
(other games not having content doesn't make overwatch good for being bare bones).

His design is meant to be a joke. It's actually in Borderlands and has been since the first one.

The similarities are there, but the fact that A) BB was before and B) they are just general mechanics in a ton of other shooters, including borderlands, makes it stupid to point out. Also the tracer comparison reeks of desperation.

The devs didn't "pick a fight" with Overwatch and that in no way influenced what happened to their game being in the state that it is. The sole problem with BB was it's lack of marketing, which it's not exactly a AAA title like OW is (and Gearbox doesn't have it's own convention either).

Games like BB will suffer this same fate all the time, regardless of how good they are.

Games like OW will still get the same success, regardless of how good they are.

Marketing and fanboyism will always make a profit or loss, regardless of the quality of the content.

If you want a good reference try looking at Torchlight II and Diablo 3.

Ok, fair point.

I should have done my homework before I commented.. most of "BB devs picking a fight with overwatch" was mostly speculation or rumors I heard and I couldn't find any evidence to support it so that one's my bad. Only thing was the whole battleborn tweeting "come at me bro" towards overwatch which I get was playful, but what I don't understand is why if they were so determined to make a point that they were different games, try to "call eachother out" like that... Again I'm sure it was playful and essentially harmless. Also I'm not saying that it contributed to the game's "failure" at all. what I AM saying is that the tweet was widely viewed as a competition between BB and OW (whether it was a friendly or aggressive challenge is up to interpretation though it probably was just playful) and this put together with the fact that it was BB who was calling out OW, and at the end of the day BB flopped commercially and OW is hugely successful. In all likelyhood this was more of a "may the best man win" kind of statement but a lot of people seemed to view it as them saying "hey suck it OW, I'm gonna kick your ass".

I do really agree with you on the whole marketing/advertising thing. The marketing process can really make or break a game for better or for worse. There are ton's of games that should get way more credit than they deserve but somewhere along the lines, they have a hiccup and fall into mediocrity in the consumer's eyes.

I just want to clarify. I didn't start this conversation because I wanted to completely shit on BB (ok maybe I wanted to shit on montana's design a little). mainly my point in responding is I don't get why Overwatch is getting so much hate for being more commercially successful than BB. I'm not saying that BB doesn't deserve to be held in higher respects, I just don't get why people have the mentality that people shouldn't be enjoying OW? BB fans get mad when people compare OW to BB but then the next second theyre yelling about how BB so much better than OW?

fuck my argument is going all over the place... I really don't even know what I'm trying to say anymore

I always thought Montanna was kinda cool looking, but I like One Pieces designs so whatever, but there is a lore reason, he's from a planet called Aplia along with another guy (Ghalt) which seems to be a race of semi-giants but Montanna's big even for them.

:/ I don't know why that video made it seem like one copied the other with the characters, because it's just obviously not the case.

The proportions in battleborn are fine given the setting and gearbox.

The game actually does have a lot of content and a lot of effort put into it. I mean if I'm comparing it to overwatch, which is relatively bare-bones in content and didn't even have ranked on release.

Well, as people loved to compare Tf2 and overwatch, I'd say Overwatch has the same amount of content as Tf2 did on it's release. Also overwatch not having ranked on release is something that I don't see what all the fuss is about. its only been what.... 1-2 months since its release and competitive mode is already here. That's nothing compared to Tf2 which only just now after YEARS of being teased is getting its competitive mode (not including the pro scenes or private servers and such). arguably one could say that tf2 was only $20 on it's release whereas overwatch was $60 but price isn't the point I'm arguing. Not to mention Street Fighter V which /v/ so violently defends barely had ANY content on release compared to the previous installments in the series and it took them much MUCH longer than overwatch did to add additional modes.

The proportions I guess you could say is just a personal issue for me. If you look at his design, his head is smaller than the buckles on his chest. that means at a distance something as significant as his head will read only as well as something as insignificant as his belt buckle. But I haven't played the game so for all I know he looks fantastic in game. My opinions are purely based on screen shots and the little gameplay videos I've seen.

As for battleborn copying overwatch I don't want to say that one was blatantly ripping off of the other, but you have to admit the similarities are there. Not to mention the devs of Battleborn kept trying to pick a fight with Overwatch on twitter and social media. Even if it was mostly playful remarks, it just seemed in bad taste to try and start a rivalry that shouldn't have existed.

And as for the content of Battleborn, again as I've said before I've never played it so for all i know its the best game ever created and is severely underrated. It does have a fanbase and however small it may be they genuinely seem to enjoy the game. The gameplay itself is probably fine.

TL;DR ... I don't even know what point I'm trying to make anymore. Battleborn and Overwatch are separate games that are both probably great games that shouldn't be compared to one another, but the devs of BB kinda fucked themselves in the ass for trying to pick a fight with Overwatch and ended up being a commercial failure while Overwatch ended up being a commercial success.
