You may be correct in that many atheists not only don't believe in a god but also don't follow or adhere to any religion. I also understand that languages change over time, but rarely does the definition of a word completely change. Your example, the word "ain't" was a newly created word and not an already existing word that had its definition changed. Most changes in language over time are corruptions of spelling and pronunciation. Ain't is a corruption of the words aren't and isn't depending what tense it is being used in. It is a new word that retains the same use as its precursors.

I was only using Ain't as an example, there are many other words I could cite that have had their definitions at least added to, rather than changed, but you agree that it does happen, albeit rarely, so I don't see a point in doing any serious research.

Good talk.

No it doesn't. Being ignorant of something doesn't suddenly change that something. In this case, you and apparently some other people don't know what the definition of a word is so you decided to make up your own. Not only that, but you completely ignore the root word in your new definition. This doesn't make you right and if this is how language evolves than I feel sorry for future generations who wont be able to properly communicate because a bunch of autistic retards decided to change and dumb down the meaning of words. Congratulations, you are making the human race just a little more retarded.

After some passive research, I would like to correct myself.

I improperly connected the words Religion and Theistic when arguing this topic, and concede that Atheism IS directly related to only the existence of a God, not other supernatural/religious claims, but I do stand by the assertion that use of terms can, and does, lead to changes in their colloquial meaning. If one identifies as an Atheist, it is most likely that do not have a religion, but not necessarily granted.

My apologies.

given words that we use all of the time today are often either butcherigns or slang like terms of older versions of English, yes, that is exactly how language works. "Aint" is a word in dictionaries now. Published, respectable dictionaries. it is a word.

You can bitch and whine all you like about it, the meaning of words change with time.
