You just made up that % but even if only 5% of terrorists are real terrorists they have very real power in their regions. How did Ahmedinejad destroy the democracy of Iran and replace respectable officials with mullahs who reinstated shariah law? How does Syria continue to absolutely destroy its revolution to the silence of the UN?

Radicals. People like the Muslim Brotherhood who espouse anti-western ideals and praise the idea of martyrdom.

But you know what, I think you misunderstand me. I don't like war. I don't want war. I know a great deal of the reason for war is because politicians and munitions manufacturers capitalize on fear. Those guys can suck giant fucking chodes. However, I do love our soldiers. They aren't being selfish, they aren't raging douchebags just waiting for the thrill of the kill on some 4 year old Iraqi child... they're just doing what they think is right. They're doing what they think is selfless. They really think they're killing the bad guys.

The problem with wars since Vietnam is how difficult it is to tell who the bad guys are anymore. Back in WWII it was easy, if they had the red arm band they're a bad guy! But then the bad guys started wearing civilian clothes and hiding in civilian centers and using children as shields...

It got messy and the soldiers have been getting far too much of the blame for mistakes made and civilians/honest soldiers murdered.

Blame the politicians. Blame the businessmen. Don't blame the soldiers. That's the only point I really argue here.

because then radicals will happily slaughter us.

You cannot deny that some men in those regions are quite radical. Those radicals seek positions of authority and control the masses through fear.

If our armies completely disbanded, do you think those radicals would just let us be?
User avatar #220 - swooshbear (05/24/2013) [-]
There would still be some radicals coming for us but do you realize that 95% of the "terrorists" are ordinary men like you and me that want an oppressive and abusive tyrant removed from their country and way of life.

How the US thought Iraq would welcome us with open arms after every household lost at least one male to us is beyond me.

those "terrorists" are soldiers like he's a soldier. When you sign up to be a soldier you sign up to put your life on the line... I wouldn't say killing other soldiers makes a soldier a murderer just like killing a man in a duel isn't murder. You both signed up, you both agreed to the terms. You both knew that only one could survive. Our troops are just better trained, equipped, and cared for.

He did so, yes, because he believed that when his country said it was threatened and there was physical evidence of a certain degree of threat, that it was his duty to protect his country and his family because if strong men like him don't step up, who will? Now you can say 9/11 and bostom bombings and other attacks similar to those are inside jobs, but you cannot blame a guy for not immediately thinking the same thing as you when the legitimacy of the terrorist attack on 9/11 has been the most publicly touted terrorist attack in US history.

See the thing is... no human being WANTS to kill other human beings. I know a couple returning vets who are absolutely traumatized by killing guys who were shooting back. It didn't matter that those guys were just as willing to kill as he was, the sheer fact that he was responsible for taking lives will stay with him for life. Talk to most soldiers and no one will want to talk about how many people they've killed. Now you say it's because they know they're guilty murderers, right? I say it's because they live with the weight of doing what they felt HAD to be done. They hate that they had to kill but did it anyways because they were afraid of what would happen if they didn't. If that "terrorist" kept stockpiling weapons and training new men, when would the next attack occur? Would his family be safe?

The difference between murderers and soldiers is that murderers want to kill. They enjoy it. They seek it! Soldiers just do it because they're terrified of murderers having access to their families.
User avatar #205 - swooshbear (05/24/2013) [-]
If no human beings want to kill others, then why do you people continue to sign up? Why not help end the cycle of bloodshed by not participating in the violence at all?
User avatar #210 - Sethorein (05/24/2013) [-]
