Sounds more glamorous than it is. We do get jaded, though, but it's probably because all but 1 person I work with are all enlisted, so we don't get paid any more or less than anyone else our rank. Nature of the Beast.

The technical name is Munitions Systems Technician for the USAF, we shorten it to Ammo. It has different elements within the job, but the crux of it is we are the central area in every Airbase that handles anything explosive.

We're taught from Day 1 explosive principles and safety, and how to design countermeasures in case of accidental detonation. It's about 90% of our job to know how explosives operate and how to keep millions of tons of ordnance from destroying the surrounding city.

Any other explosion-related guidance?

I've got months of training, and a few years of OJT Supplemental Training for specific items, and if I don't know it off the top of my head, I have guidance for it written somewhere in the world. What would you like to know?

Thermal shock.

Suddenly having you surroundings change temperature by several hundered degrees isn't really good for your body.

Woohoo, relevant work experience time!

Depending on the primary fuel, 85%-90% of the energy in an explosion is released in the form of over-pressure. The human body is between 60% and 65% water, and water is non-compressible. When a significant over-pressure impacts the human body, the water does not compress, but the important biological bits between the molecules of water do, effectively crushing the human body on a cellular level.

Shrapnel has a chance of making contact and causing trauma, but from the epicenter of an explosion, if the over-pressure is sufficient, it is 100% lethal on contact.

>>#23 Even organs without gas in them are gonna take some damage. Have you seen how well pressure waves operate in liquid? Now imagine a pressure WALL hitting your whole body, full of liquid. Shit's mad painful, yo.
User avatar
#81 - boeka (09/11/2016) [-]
You're correct, but what I'm saying is that organs with air / gases will be totally fucked if you take a proper pressure wave. Sure enough you'll be fucked in general by an explosion, though...
User avatar
#127 - blokrokker (09/12/2016) [-]
Oh yeah, gas-filled organs will get it even worse than liquid, I'm saying that there's basically nowhere you're getting off easy in an explosion.
User avatar
#23 - boeka (09/11/2016) [-]
Alright, mate we're going in. If the terms / words used are not 100% right I blame my teachers.

Primary trauma. Pressure wave. Any organs with gas in them will be totally fucked. For example your lungs, your intestine, your ears are going to burst.

Secondary trauma: Things flying from the explosion. Shrapnel, splinters, pieces of puppies etc.

Tetriary trauma: you flying into a wall. Broken ribs, cracked skull, concussion.

Yeah but there's a difference between shitting on fat slobs (and they were hardly even doing that; they just said you should be beach ready) and shitting on 9/11 victims and survivors, their families, the city of New York, the troops, the United States of America and her allies, oh yeah and basic decency in order to sell mattresses.

That is actually a huge problem with north korean refugees in south korea, they can get really aggressive when they are thought that they have all been fed lies their entire lives and it takes quite the time to assimilate them in to a capitalist society where they are forced to take care of themselves, lookiing for their own jobs and so on.
User avatar
#50 - ihateeverybodytoo (09/02/2016) [-]
I think you might be wrong here. My understanding is that North Koreans aren't totally brain washed. Many are watching movies that have been smuggled in from elsewhere, so they have some idea what is going on.
User avatar
#52 - swimmingprodigy (09/02/2016) [-]
true but that's only a very small portion of the population who have watched these movies. Maybe they know what life is like outside of North Korea in the movies but they still hate the western world because that's what theyre taught in school from a young age.
