Just last year my career & enterprise class taught me how to do taxes.
#68 - anon (01/29/2016) [-]
Too bad most schools don't have it for some reason the only people who could ever get any kind of career education were the tards, because slaving away for minimum wage is all they're good for , and if they do it's an elective.
#27 - zionsype (01/28/2016) [-]
And that makes it somehow less essential than most the other bullshit you're forced to learn?
User avatar
#45 - thechosentroll (01/29/2016) [-]
You're not learning most of it because it's essential, you're learning it, because it's got enough material in it to last you a school year. The reason "How to be an adult" isn't an actual subject is because it'd take about 3-4 hours to explain absolutely everything and then you'd have nothing else to do and it'd be a dead subject.

On the other hand, you could easily spend 3 months learning about dead greek people fucking eachother in the asses and calling it politics or about obscure geometrical co-relations that you will literally never have to use again, even if you decided to get a doctors' degree in math.

It's not about learning things, it's about keeping you busy with dumb shit until you turn 18 and can now legally be used to do something useful.

Basic Medical Information alone could hold you over for months.
Things like: Understanding preventable diseases, CPR, Warning signs of psychological and neurological disorders/diseases, How to handle someone who's sick/unconcious/etc. Ya'know - basic emergency and health related information that everyone should know incase of emergencies.

Taxes could take a couple weeks.
How to balance a check book.
How to invest, what investing is, options to college, basic economy, understanding elections, maybe some debate on the validity of current bills in the congress, etc.
How to start a business, how to factor in depreciation and opportunity costs.

I could go on, but you get the gist. These are all things that will affect more people than understanding trig or geometry ever will. Spending 1 hour a day for 3 years learning dates and pretty much nothing else is inane - fill that time with things an adult /does/ need.

Taxes are easy if you are on a steady monthly paycheck.

#69 - anon (01/29/2016) [-]
Save money and build a good credit score. The first part's simple, the second part isn't quite as simple but isn't too difficult if you're responsible with your money.

what about the fuel units?

#17 - Deavas (01/28/2016) [-]
yeah and thats bullshit
its like in math class when they give you the most basic version of an equation and then on the test expect you to use 3 other formulas to even use the given information in order to apply it relevantly into said equation
#33 - waker (01/28/2016) [-]
Math is pretty easy to figure out with just calculus (I think it's called that in english) in your hand. You only need like basic knowledge of things and you can figure out everything else.
User avatar
#48 - Deavas (01/29/2016) [-]
Except calculus is impossible as fuck
#60 - anon (01/29/2016) [-]
I think we have established that you just aren't good at math.
User avatar
#61 - Deavas (01/29/2016) [-]
this was already known. but we werent arguing that. we were arguing the bullshit the teachers pull
#87 - anon (01/29/2016) [-]
The point being that the teachers are not pulling any shit. You assume they are because you have poor math skills. Now you just admitted that you math skills are not good, and that we are some how arguing that the teachers are pulling shit. Everyone can see why that is a flawed statement.

It seems that you're doing so poorly with mathematics because you are generally poor at following a line of logic.
User avatar
#88 - Deavas (01/29/2016) [-]
thats not what i said at all. i have bad math skills but you have bad reading skills
#92 - waker (01/29/2016) [-]
Well math is a lot about logical thinking. If you suck at it maybe you just don't get good grades in it? I think that is quite obvious.

I personally had to repeat some biology and such over and over cause I just couldn't learn things I don't give a rats ass about even when I tried, while scoring perfect points in math without ever opening any book and doodling some random shit on the lessons. Everyone just is different.
#24 - anon (01/28/2016) [-]
That's not how math classes/tests work.

You're just mediocre at math.

#32 - ssjkirby (01/28/2016) [-]
No it doesn't.

People just say that, because they are too stupid to remember/understand what they are taught.

#57 - zaxzwim (01/29/2016) [-]
like me, i forget everything they taught me
User avatar
#47 - Deavas (01/29/2016) [-]
Except yes it does. I'm in physics in college and he gives us formulas that solves the problem, but there individual parts have to be solved first before you can even use the formula. That's how it was in high school too
#58 - anon (01/29/2016) [-]
In physics you are supposed to understand how the formulas came about in order to apply them. If you don't understand how they came about, then you don't understand the physics. What the professors teach you is how they came about. If you can't apply that it on you not them.
User avatar
#59 - Deavas (01/29/2016) [-]
youre missing the point. they do not teach you how the fucking thing came about, they only tell you how to use the master formula and expect you to just understand how to make and apply it
User avatar
#65 - becauseoprahsaidso (01/29/2016) [-]
If you're having so much trouble and they're not telling you what conditions need to exist for a formula to apply then maybe you need to read a fucking book.
#109 - skebaba (01/29/2016) [-]
Or if you wanna cheat, use Wolfram alpha
#55 - anon (01/29/2016) [-]
If you depend on formulas, and aren't able to understand how to derive the formulas on your own, you don't truly understand it
