well thats where ledger takes it off on a alternate line, like not being 'the joker' in the classic sense more just another timeline one,

kinda like the jackson / nick fury... he wasnt "the" nick fury... just an alternet version in another timeline

Yeah Bane, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze and them were all Joel Schumacher's creations not Christopher Nolan's. And I wouldn't say Ledger took the Joker character into an "alternate line". Like I said, he essentially evolved the character instead making the joker even better.

well joker was never meant to be serious... his entire character was about trying to make his evil plans into a large scale joke

ledgers' im so edgy' joker is kinda like the modern harley quinn's emo "Mr J doesnt love me" theme

< id pick a joker like this... one that kinda says he has a sense of humor at the same time hes obviously unhinged, so kinda a cross between nicholson and leto with the right look as opposed to nicholsons older man look and leto's metal teeth hannibal lector look
User avatar
#61 - jerkindougnuts (09/04/2016) [-]
So you mean when he cut off his face he wasnt supposed to be a serious character? It all depends on which variation you wanna talk about. Because you have to admit that the joker hasnt always been the same character. For exampe the tv show protrayed him as a insane prankster but some new and older joker variants are more serious. Plus yo cant say that someone who beat a kid to death with a crowbar isnt a serious character.
User avatar
#63 - politicalslap (09/04/2016) [-]
well again theres a huge differene between the classic joker doing things because evil is funny.... as opposed to ledgers edgy anarchist making political statements

yeah the more modern variants made joker more serious but not "fuck the government" political activist style

I definitely agree i think for what ledger did with the charcater was awesome. But hes definitely not the same as comic joker. Honestly i think the best joker would be that guy who plays green goblin in spiderman(toby McGuire) he did the crazy for goblin quite well. The jokers kinda complicated it hard to exactly pinpoint what he really should be because of all the changes theyve made i just stick to hes crazy and smart.

It's true that Joker doesn't take himself seriously, but Ledger somehow found a way to integrate it to the Joker character, yet STILL keep the core elements of the Joker in tact. He didn't take the easy route and try to imitate past Jokers like how Nicolson did. Instead he evolved the character to even greater heights. It's not surprising that he won an oscar for it.

It's not surprising that he won an oscar for it.

well thats where ledger takes it off on a alternate line, like not being 'the joker' in the classic sense more just another timeline one,

kinda like the jackson / nick fury... he wasnt "the" nick fury... just an alternet version in another timeline

could be worse... at least ledger wasnt as bad as the change they did to bane, poison ivy, mr freeze, the riddler and tommy lee jones 2-face

Yeah Bane, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze and them were all Joel Schumacher's creations not Christopher Nolan's. And I wouldn't say Ledger took the Joker character into an "alternate line". Like I said, he essentially evolved the character instead making the joker even better.

i mean both banes.... the batman forever one AND liam neesons one
banes meant to just be some beefed up hispanic wrestler / crime boss on a muscle gain drug... not some mindless brute or intellectual mastermind

and much as we'll disagree on ledger joker.... we both have to agree on WTF they made leto's joker a headcase

Actually Bane is a pretty smart dude. Even in the original comics. And yes Leto's joker was just unoriginal and boring. He's pretty much like all the other jokers

well theres a difference between being intelligent and spouting philosophy like liam/bane did
and the 'whole "it hurts to take off the mask' was a wtf for bane

You mean tom hardy/bane. Liam Neeson played Ra's Al ghul lol. Anyway...I really don't have an opinion on Bane so I'll take your word for it.

Same thing..no strong opinion. Just that I grew up watching Tommy Lee jones and Jim Carey's version of it. That was my introduction to those villians.

well... tommy lee was too old for the role and made the character too joker-esque rather than the classic serious crime boss he should have been

and riddlers supposed to be more dry..... carrey was too goofy

Yeah like I said...I don't really have a strong opinion on 2 face lol

Well we'll just have to agree to disagree. To me Jack Nicholson was just...meh. Ledger's performance was just over the moon better from his mannerisms to his facial expressions. He made the Dark Knight film seem more than just some comic book flick like Burton's

Slurp. Slurp.
Batman Bright Day

Batman: Bright Day by hotdiggedydemon
That is the only impression that really lasts in the Dark Knight 2 movie.
Slurp. Slurp. Lip smacking annoying.

idk... Nicholson carried joker's permanent smile well and the character conveyed the twisted sense of humor better
he played out the whole "if i do it, its gotta be funny" theme very well

ledger was mostly too serious like the typical "fuck the system' anti-establishment type

though.... the BESSSSTTTT joker ive seen was this pro cosplayer
THIS is the dude id want in a batman movie
