The weight does play a factor. As does the volume. If you were to turn that cannonball into a rod about an inch in diameter, it would probably sink.

The mass would be the same, but changing the shape will change the volume.

Plus, the shape itself will affect whether it floats or not.

No, it's the same material, and the same material always has the same density under the same pressure and temperature.
And this is a solid so even if those changed the density wouldn't change much.

actually you are thinking mass not weight as weight is irrelevant as it depends on gravity, hydrogen will still float on top of oxygen even if we doubled, tripled, or halved the earth's gravitational pull. because it depends on mass and volume it is correct to say it depends solely on the density.
