The only reasonable explanation is one fans had to make up because the ending was really that bad. I love Mass Effect. Favorite game off all time in ME1 (very closely followed by ME2) but ME3 just feels like a chore to play...

Probably the short-term/long-term gains isn't at a balance the public likes. We're all about instant-gratification now, so it's hard to get us on projects we won't live to see the fruit of.

Humanity is still changing and growing. Large sectors are still volatile, yes, but we have to do something to prevent stagnation of society. New energy and development is a good place, and it might give us methods for future space travel too if we can get into smaller, cleaner systems. I do admit we kinda make weapons of every development, but it's no reason we can reap the benefits too.

yeah true man. i cant believe we dont invest all of our time and money into investigating and exploring space. there must be entire planets with reserves of energy and resources

The same can be said of most technologies; but specifically for nuclear energy, our only design to improve on is shielding and efficient usage of the radiation emitted to generate energy and prolong the life of the fuel. Not saying there isn't a con, radioactive waste does pose a serious hazard if improperly handled, but that's why research exists.

im afraid that i dont have that much confidence in the human race to develop something as volatile as nuclear energy and be completely focused on safety and protection

For note: The fuel used in nuclear reactors is not suitable for usage in any form of weaponry. The uranium concentrations and type are not the ones used in warheads and can not reach the critical mass needed for a nuclear explosion.
User avatar #317 - sulkboy (10/25/2014) [-]
yeah but its more that the development of nuclear power will result in better technology and research, which will be applicable to weaponry
