They wander around a lot but some are found in consistent places. There are even misc objectives such as "help defend the checkpoint" where a bunch of minutemen are under attack. One location is between Quincy and the Atom Cats Garage, in a ruined building.

Checkpoint? I'm guessing you did the minutemen ending then. I've never seen one for the minutemen, but I get misc objectives for defending nearby BoS checkpoints after beating the game with them.

They supposedly had a few outposts in Chicago, but I think that's the furthest they've travelled, as the largest and most dangerous factions that would pose a threat to them existed in California and Washington, on the West Coast.

Oh, god. Going into what you think is a ghost town, only to have these fuckers drag themselves out from under wrecked cars?

They are scary for how unpredictable they are.

I said that at release that they are far more scarier than a deathclaw to me. I just think they would have been better if they didn't confuse the lore a little bit, because they kinda look like the Fallout Hillbillies more than Ghouls. I mean the whole idea of "Ghoul" is they look like fucking zombies not the "Hey you guys" guy, y'know?

They just kind of look like lumpy pale cave people now.

They are insanely unpredictable though. And they cover ground fast.
I thought the old ghouls were quick.

I just hope somebody makes a mod that makes them a bit more... ghoulish.

Yeah, I like my zombies looking like shambling human corpses with skin falling off, not hunchbacked inbred crocodile freaks.
