>man blows himself up in airport to kill people: stupid
>man blows himself up in warzone to kill terrorists: super smart.

okay, it's not a stupid/smart scenario, for a start. technically, the suicide bomber would be the smarter, since his tactics have a larger impact and are near-impossible to defend against.

the difference is a moral one. the suicide bomber kills civilians for no reason but to send a message. while the trooper in the content understood he had no chance of survival, and decided to do as much damage to the enemy (who were armed combatants) as possible.

>suicide bombing an airport of civilians makes him tactically smart
wut
wouldnt it be smarter to take the bomb off and detonate it from afar or something?

#427 - greyblade (04/01/2016) [-]
possibly, yeah. the downside is you lose the bomber.

upsides are:

- don't need to worry about the bomb being found before you detonate it.
- big plus on the fear factor. most people like living. most people don't really think about what, if anything, they'd be willing to die for. the idea of people being willing and able to just walk into a crowded place and explode... that's terrifying.
- a lot of places have strict/specific rules about unattended luggage, for that exact reason. you can limit the chances of that sort of thing. you can't ban people though.
- no chance of the bomber being caught/questioned.
- bomber doesn't have to deal with the consequenes. people go into these things full of ideals and shit. survivors rarely leave with them.

plus, the whole reason that terrorism happens is that it's so difficult to stop. in a conventional war, these attacks would be nothing. maybe 0.1%, maybe 0.01% of people are in danger. it's not a significant loss.

but in civilian populations, the numbers game doesn't work. every person wants to feel safe, so even 1 in a million attacks getting through is a failure.

I mean sure, if you want to look at this as a blanket act of aggression on another person or persons, totally void of adjustment for any other factors. Then I guess I see where you're coming from in a philosophical sense. To some people somewhere this whole thing is reversed; the Russian soldier is indeed the bad guy, and the glorious dead attackers are heroic martyrs. But honestly, it seems like you're just shitposting for attention or whatever. I love you man, if you really just don't get it then I hope that someday you learn empathy. PAX friend.
