I don't care if it's real or not, stories like these give me real strong feels. I love reading this stuff.

I wish the numbers were a little more realistic but the feels are there.
#127 - walmartysnextghost (03/21/2015) [-]
It just breaks the realism to me, this to me is like having some fading coach run an olympic qualifying time for a mile when the kid he's been training has never seen him run before. I recognize the sports are different but I just wish he has pulled upper 700's to low 8's instead of over 900 lbs. That's all I was trying to say.
User avatar #105 - marinepenguin (03/20/2015) [-]
A deadlift like that is pretty achievable if you've been a dedicated lifter for as long as the story claims he was.
#125 - walmartysnextghost (03/21/2015) [-]
I'm sorry, the world record for the deadlift is like 1012, a 900lb deadlift from a guy whose past his prime, especially whose specialty was bodybuilding and who supposedly had gone through tragic injury in the past and clearly doesn't compete anymore. I don't think anybody under 300lbs has ever pulled over 9, much less some guy who they see every day and doesn't seem big til he takes his sweatshirt off. I work in a gym that has plenty of fairly big guys, more than one who i've seen pull upwards of the 700 mark. I've pulled 430, I understand what you have to do to get those numbers, but I'm just saying to make it seem realistic he's either got to up the size of how he describes the guy considerably or drop his lifts about 150-200 lbs, which is still impressive for a guy who nobody thinks is substantially strong or big at his gym.
User avatar #126 - marinepenguin (03/21/2015) [-]
It never says how big the guy is, just that he was huge. He could have been 300 pounds for all we know. Plus your strength doesn't wane until you get hit at least 50.

Sure, some parts could have been exaggerated, but how much he lifted isn't really even important to the story.
#90 - anonymous (03/20/2015) [-]
The numbers are fine if he entered competition - im 220lbs (100k) and pull 440lb deadlifts (200K), the guy who runs the gym is 160lbs and can match my deadlift (so not far off triple body weight) - you get guys on /fit/ who are my weight who prove they can deadlift 650lbs and they are just 2-3 years into somewhat serious football training, so a fully fledged power lifter, it sounds reasonable, fucking insanely heavy but possible hence the crowd. Youtube of a 22 year old guy doing 400k, he's blatently big/I assume roids, but its not super rare watch?v=oppGSzVGr70.

Could be a BS story but just throwing in my opinion on the numbers.

Great story.

The gym is a place where bonds unlike any other are made. It's cliche af, but it really is a brotherhood.

Not really? The past few media outrages have been because the black teen was outright killed, usually when unarmed.
Now, I won't argue with you about Michael Brown. The guy was a bully who made a shitty decision, and me and my dad both agreed that while he didn't deserve to die despite surrendering to the police officer and getting shot multiple times anyway , he should have known what his actions would bring.

But Trayvon Martin? Eric Garner? Those cases wouldn't have been nearly as controversial as they were if the courts had done their jobs. The same goes for Casey Anthony's case.
#190 - sniperfumbles (03/12/2015) [-]
Garner, that was the name. First and foremost:
Michael Brown did not surrender. He was shot while charging the cops. Every autopsy has proven this. The bullets passed through the front of his chest. He landed faced down, meaning he had forward momentum.
Secondly: Trayvon Martin was beating the shit out of Zimzam when he was shot. Facial lacerations, a partially broken nose, and the trajectory of the bullet all pointed to that conclussion. It was also proven in court that Zimzam had no other choice based on the pin Trayvon used on Zimzam.
Third: Eric Garner died of cardiac arrest caused by stress. Not by a choke hold, administered because the target was resisting arrest. The commanding officer (who was a black woman, mind you) found nothing malicious about it.
