You are correct. The Curie temperature only works on ferromagnetism and this looks like it is Aluminium. So it is probably more likely that the liquid metal has become more resistive and can no longer accept the induced current required to generate the magnetic field to keep it aloft.

That seems plausible. My guess is that they just turned off the solenoid.

Yeah, I know about the priority of calling for the ball, and I know how hard it is to gauge a fly ball at first. I was a pitcher, so I know. But it gets to the point where you have to know where you are on the field. The SS has to recognize that he's ranged too far and let the 2B take over
