Dude, cops are trained to react to body language. I takes longer to react to drawn gun and shoot than to draw gun and shoot at somebody. As this cop said he was asking to keep their hands up and that latino just kept moving his hands around his waist and before shots were fired he put his left hand behind his jacket and moved up and down. Thats more than right reason to shoot somebody who was suspected for doing armed robery yesterday.

Good maybe you'll go somewhere where the cops actually gun down random citizens like the way you describe it because that definitely doesn't happen here.

You are not trained to fire your weapon once. If you discharge, you are trained to fire in a triple tap method. Two quick shots to center mass, and one for the head. This is standard for all police, not just American. You do not shoot with the aim of being non-lethal. Police shoot to end the (potential) threat at all costs, without heed to the target's life. Shoot to stop. If they die, they die. That's the end if it. The cop's life is more important than risking it on a dangerous situation. One bullet will not stop a meth head. Sometimes an entire mag won't. That's why the triple tap method exists.

He waited a full three seconds before pulling the trigger, giving his fifth warning while doing so. Also not protocol. If you pull your gun, you're opening fire. Period. These measures are in place for the officer's safety. If you don't like it, get the hell out of this country, because that man did his duty.

Turns out I miscounted. That was his seventh warning.

Continuing to reach for your waistband after being told, "Stop moving or I will shoot!" is more than enough goddamn reason to shoot.
#80 - slenderchild (01/13/2015) [-]
did you watch the video at all? he shoots 3 times immediately after pulling his gun
he could have easily pulled his gun and given one more warning, and if he didnt comply, shoot him ONCE in a non lethal spot that would still eliminate the threat

"Ramirez, high on methamphetamine at the time of his death, allegedly disobeyed Morrison’s orders for him and the vehicle’s passengers to raise their hands—and instead reached for his waistband."

It is not a fucking police officer's job to wait until bullets are fucking coming at him to open fire on a potential threat.
#77 - slenderchild (01/13/2015) [-]
reaching for his waistband isnt reason to shoot, its reason to point your gun

if Ramirez actually had a gun, he would have had to pull it out of his waistband, point it up at the cop (keep in mind he was in the back seat of a small car, which would have made any quick movements more difficult and slow) then shoot. The cop would have had plenty of time to wait for a weapon to be visible before shooting, but he fucked up

No. Look, we've been tip-toeing around too many people's 'feelings' for too long when it comes to the freedom of speech. You have two options when it comes to comedy, either everything is fair game or nothing is fair game. End of story. Christians and Jews and Hindus and every other religion on the planet has had the piss taken out of them but people are scared of Islam for some reason, and I am not okay with that. Muslims need to grow up and learn to deal with the freedom of speech like everyone else.
#32 - rambopotato (01/09/2015) [-]
yea man i totally agree with you, people take the whole freedom of speech thing too far and fail to realise that just because you CAN, doesnt mean you SHOULD.
#34 - anonymous (01/09/2015) [-]
They most definitely should have.
The question you should be asking isn't "Is the joke worth dying for?" it's "Is it worth killing over?" Just because someone threatens violence doesn't mean they have to be listened to.
#22 - anonymous (01/09/2015) [-]
I don't know how I feel about this. Your comment makes sense, but I think it's more of a freedom of the press thing, which is also important.
