You're probably thinking a bit too late. Remember, by 1492-1493, Europeans already knew about the possibility of establishing colonies in the "New World". By the 1600s, Europeans have already made contact with the Natives and therefore making the Natives more susceptible to diseases.

You're right, but by the time Columbus made his first landing in the Carribean there was already an epidemic taking hold on the east coast. Unless there were numerous unofficial, unheard of landings in the mid 1400s, there's no other explanation except a lethal indigenous disease.

wrong. when people came to the americas from europe at first they noticed that there were a huge amount of natives. In one area along a river europeans visited an recounted large communities all along the river with thousands of people there, and by the next time europeans visited that area, there were two settlements with only a few dozen people. Diseases. It's estimated that the population of the americas was higher than the population of europe before the arrival of columbus. The epidemic happened after the europeans arrived, and pigs helped spread diseases
