You claimed I was wrong and windows 10 can't be run on older systems effectively.

If you have time to say someone else is wrong, you have time to google three words to make sure you're correct beforehand, otherwise you look like an idiot.

So, because you were lazy and didn't fact-check yourself, you look like an idiot.

I wouldn't go that far, all i did was misrepresent the figure of system requirements. Since ive never built a machine with less than 4gb of ddr2, i went with my own standard. I agreed with your statement that it would work on older systems, as long as the requirements were met. Simply used my own personal preferences instead of solid fact.

At any rate, the compression vs read/write to the hard disk is vastly superior. Apple started that in 2013, linux adapted it in more recent releases as well. So the more ram, the less file r/w. While it does take more cpu cycles to 'decompress,' it is still much faster. And it would stand to reason, that if your board and processor can handle more ram, that's the way to go.

And you are correct, 2gb ram required for a new install, 1gb ram for an update.

I currently make my living by buying laptops pawn stores can't sell for various reasons.
Usually just OS issues I can fix in an hour.
Sometimes physical damage, wait a week for a cheap part, replace it, turn profit.
I put windows 10 on fucking everything because it sells. People want to buy windows 10 laptops.
I have put windows 10 on 2gb of DDR2 and it works fine. There are plenty of forums that say it's fine. The minimum requirements say it's fine.

In fact, MICROSOFT'S OWN MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS STATE:
1 Gigabyte.

Therefore you are full of shit.

Im not full of shit, im at work right now, and didnt feel like looking up the minimum system requirements. Personally, ive not had a lot of luck running anything besides word and chrome on 2gb ddr2 systems. The other part of what i said, is true. 10 runs smoother the more memory you have, the better chipset, the better bus capability of your board, ect. Because it runs on a percentage of available ram. More ram, smoother system. Or im completely wrong, which isnt something that hasnt happened before. Their's a reason i build and run prototype engines, and not pcs for a living.

The OS should have extremely low hardware requirements so the maximum amount of resources are available to programs the user is running.

When my laptop or desktop boots, it uses ~280MB of RAM and the CPU is at around 1% load with the CPU is running at it's minimum frequency. Most of the CPU time is used to run the task manager (which uses CPU in spikes that occur during it's update interval, which artificially increases the CPU usage it displays). A very similar setup uses ~128MB on a Raspberry Pi because 32 bit stuff tends to use half the RAM 64 bit stuff does. This is a desktop OS we are talking about here. If a smartphone OS lags, or consumes a bunch of ram, it's because the devs want it to, or are lazy fucks that write shitty code.
