As I said, I don't think anything less of the music.
I just think the genre denomination is a load of wank.

Other than that, it's great. If it can help you narrow your search for music you really want I see no problem.

Sometimes genres are just a little bit too specific. But it's not always a bad thing.

Crazy fucking genre, but it has some amazing stuff in it. It influenced a ton of rock music that later developed in the late 70's and 80's including post-punk and indie rock.

Eeeeeeh. His work is really to be judged individually, amidst all his stuff there's jungle, metal, flamenco, funk... it's hard to think of a genre he hasn't tackled.

Most people don't know it, but there is a far older piece of educed audio being circulated, but only amongst scholars of ancient civilizations.

In 2008 an archaeologist named Manuela Correia was searching for lost artifacts in the Southwest Palace of King Sennacherib, the location that the Library of Ashurbanipal was discovered at. The expedition was a success, as 32 tablets were discovered together in a chest that was buried under fifteen feet of earth.

The tablets seemed to have come from different sources, but in general were from the Neo-Assyrian period and seemed to be contemporary with the famous library. The earliest date that could be identified was from around 648 BC, as it mentions the consequences of the rebellion of Shamash-shum-ukin as a recent event. The tablets were often cracked and worn which rendered much of them unreadable, but it was clear that they had a common theme. They appeared to be the work of scribes sent by Ashurbanipal to collect information on ancient lore and history from the Babylonian region.

The texts told of a figure named Ramaash of Susa, a highly enigmatic figure in science and philosophy of the Ancient Near East comparable to Pythagorus. This comparison is very apt because like the Greek, he had a cult that followed his teachings very closely and resembled later esoteric traditions such as freemasons and rosicrucians. After an analysis and translation of the tablets in the chest, one of them was discovered to be the earliest educed piece of audio yet discovered, an ancient engraving of Ramaash's own voice. The only other source discovered that mentions Ramaash is an obscure manuscript by Athenian historian Praxagoras, which also unfortunately happens to be incomplete.

By combining the ancient tablets and Praxagoras's manuscript, this is what is known of Ramaash:

Ramaash of Susa arrived in Babylonia during the late reign of Hammurabi, somewhere around 1760 BC. No notes of his origin have survived aside from the assumption that he had been born in Susa due to his name.

His teachings on religion and science were startling for their time and place. He taught that the Babylonian deities were created for nothing but control, and that the only true God in the world was named Kho. Kho was a being of evil who was older than time itself and inhabited every misery and misfortune in the world. Ramaash believed that Kho lived in all things and was responsible for the underlying horribleness and tragedy of the universe.

Unlike the Gods commonly revered in Babylonian, Akkadian, and Sumerian cultures, Kho had no form or likeness. His only visual representation was all-encompassing nothingness. According to one of the tablets, Ramaash believed Kho was beyond form. This was intentional so that he could never be seen or even imagined by human perception, for if humans were to do so it would surely spell their eternal doom. It was also said that Kho was the one who cloaked the world in night every evening. When people slept he would sweep through the landscape out beyond the limits of our sight and put vicious beasts and horrible monstrosities in the world as punishment for people's belief in and worship of other Gods.

Ramaash espoused the belief that Babylonia was a plague on humankind, and that only the recognition and fear of Kho would save humanity. Unlike other gods though, Kho apparently despised religious rituals and piety, instead urging humans to try to comprehend the world around them through philosophy, science, technology, and mathematics. Ramaash claimed that Kho despised humanity because humanity had the potential "to be as gods" if they exercised their minds but never did so. He further claimed that in the near future, humanity would be judged by Kho, and gave a frightening apocalyptic prediction for what would happen if people continued to practice religion at the expense of knowledge.

He claimed that the earth would be cast into a void of darkness for the rest of eternity, and in darkness all the plants and animals would perish, and water would turn to "the bitter pus of beasts". Then when all was dead and empty, plants with stinging thorns and poisonous odors would spring from the soil, "and spill the black and bitter blood of the earth". From the ends of the horizons huge monstrosities beyond the limits of human imagination would be spawned and would lay siege to the cities and devour their inhabitants.

Humans would be kept alive for this eternal punishment due to their wickedness, but they would still feel the pain of a thousand deaths. They would feel the pangs of starvation, their flesh being ripped by vultures, their entire bodies devoured by monsters, their lungs closed by suffocating aromas, and their insides melted by poisonous fruits, but would live forever with only more suffering to look forward to.

The citizens of Babylonia scorned Ramaash for his impiety, and Hammurabi quickly banished him from teaching in the town square. However, he managed to gain a small but extremely dedicated band of followers who continued to meet him in the wilderness on the outskirts of the city. In this removed area, his followers built a temple in the shape of a large dome. Here they were free to practice Ramaash's highly advanced science and engineering. Ramaash was interested in representing aspects of nature through mathematics, algorithms, and diagrams.

Like the secret societies of modern day, their work was protected vigilantly from outsiders, so his teachings remain mostly unknown. However, around 1742 BC, after the death of Hammurabi and subsequent inheritance of Babylonia by his son Samsu-iluna, Ramaash's followers took advantage of the disarray that fell over Babylonia and returned to the town square. Here, Ramaash explained that society was doomed to never understand the truth, that the only things that are sacred and eternal are death, suffering, and nothingness. He then added Kho would soon send a reign of darkness over Babylonia and the wicked earth it begat, bowed his head, and chanted something in a language no one understood. After this he slit his own throat with a piece of sharpened metal and fell to the ground.

The artifacts remaining in the meeting place of Ramaash's followers were then taken to the city for research, although what remained was mostly inconsequential. None of their esoteric doctrine survived. One of only remnants was an engraving that managed to function as an extremely primitive spectrogram, and another slab explaining it as such, both of which wound up in the chest unearthed by Manuela Correia. The explanation that accompanied this "spectrogram" only stated the following, roughly translated into English:

Here lies the voice of Ramaash, the most wise and most [inquired?] of the accursed city

clay lives eternally the wicked city Babylon

Hail Kho and [repent?]

It makes no mention of the method used to capture Ramaash's vocal tones. This knowledge died with his followers and continues to baffle scholars.

Recently however, the engraved slab that Ramaash used to save his voice for future generations has been translated into audio by experts in a similar field as Patrick Feaster, the man primarily responsible for this collection. This is the yielded result:

Nothing much man, I've just been wasting the summer away trying to be productive but usually end up failing and end up playing csgo.

I listened to about 70-80 hours of soviet rock music in one continuous listen earlier this week, and by that I mean playing it a low volume no matter what I did. It was interesting, and there was some really good songs, but I'm not sure I wanna listen to any generic 70s/80s rock ever again. They basically just did that but most of the time worse, but there were a few really good bands in it.

and also been obsessively listening to this www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6hkVXpQYYg considering it's the kind of music i've been looking for forever

Yeah, I volunteered at my friends shop last saturday, he said I'll probably be working again next week because they're gonna be really busy. So I'm doing something with my summer. What have you been watching?

Nah, I've realized that I don't exactly have a passion for electronic music, so I rarely try. I usually just kinda fiddle around and experiment, that's usually fun. Most of my ideas require a band anyways. So basically I'm just getting good at guitar now.

that actually sounds like a lot of fun, volunteering can teach you a lot and it looks really, really good on a resume
just been watching some old ****** movies and stuff. currently marathoning thru orange is the new black. good, not great, but gud.
just feel useless sitting around doing pointless **** , slowly devolving into my worst nightmare... a neet.
as far as that music thing goes, its good you at least gave a good try. i thought the stuff was pretty good but if you aint got no interest in it anymore, might as well move onto something better. a band sounds like more fun anyways

Yeah, hopefully next year I'll actually be employed, but this summer I decided to just work at my friends shop, it's easier than learning how to actually get a job.

I need like good movies to watch, got a few of them lined up, but I want something REALLY good. So recommend me something, just pls no gore

Don't worry man, somewhere you'll pick yourself up. Just constantly be doing something to improve yourself so that everyday your chances of getting a job are better.

and yeah, my friend is a drummer so all i need is someone who can play the bass and i got my own high school garage band, i'll be able to make ****** demos!

Okay, Ive had these two friends for a long time. one since sixth grade, one since ninth grade.
Last year and earlier this year i was in a relationship with the girl, the one ive known since sixth grade. our friend since ninth grade, the dude, is a heavy smoker, drug dealer (cocaine, weed, and xanax). she would always comment on how he's too violent, he would hit a woman, and he's mean. He's threatened to kill his last two girlfriends and got suspended for harassment multiple times.

skip ahead a few months, they're dating now. recently, he got suspended for stealing an RLC's (the adult who lives on the hall with all the guys) ipad, and selling it.
at this point im worried about my ex, i know he's a huge manipulator and will end up doing what he did with the other girls to her. i still care about her, but she just blows off everything i say and say that she trusts that he's changed.

so, i stop talking to the both of them.
Now, this is about a week ago. (BOUT A WEEK AGO WEEK AGO). my roommate has been missing his ipad for a month, and I've been missing my room key and my id for a month (i had to buy a new one)
he's gone, so we decide to look for my roommates ipad in the guys room. we pull out a drawer, and there's my key and id, and three other keys. all those people have had stuff missing from them since they lost their keys.
this ************ stole my key and had access to my room for the past month, and when i asked him if he's seen my keys he straight up lied. now he has the nerve to tell me to apologize for accusing him of stealing stuff, and he says hes never stolen anything before.
he ****** stole so many cds from an independent record store, steals peoples headphones and sells them to his druggie friends, and also took his suitemates GKMC vinyl.
he always brags about stealing.

good news though, he got expelled. so **** that *****

i don't know how many authentic ian curtis gifs there are, that gif is from the movie control which if you haven't seen, watch it, it's pretty good

Not really sure I could say I'm a big fan, but Unknown Pleasures is one of my favorite albums of all time and Love Will Tear Us Apart is probably top 5 of my favorite songs of all time. But I do like their music a lot, and it was because of them I started checking out more music under the genre post-punk, which is now my favorite genre of all time.

Haven't seen 24-Hour Party People, I may check it out soon.

Never could really enjoy Control, it's not bad, but it's not something I'm like "woah this is amazing" like I am with Unknown Pleasures.

New Order is cool, however I haven't really checked them out either. I need to like download some of their albums, I only have their compilation Substance. I had Power, Corruption & Lies but I think I only listened to it once and forgot about it, and it's easy to forget about some albums when you have over 1,000 of them.
User avatar #3748 to #3747 - whathappenedtofj (03/06/2015) [-]
It's good, it chronicles Joy Division and then New Order, and the Happy Mondays. It's focused on Tony Wilson, the guy at Factory Records. It's funny in places and there's a bit of artistic license used here and there but it's worth the watch.

I like New Order too, they're more pop but still, lots of bass and lyrics about disconnection etc. I think Ceremony, their first single, has about 1000 plays on my iTunes Yeah I buy my music, what a scrub What else you into man?

I don't blame you, my music taste is fairly weird and there is a lot of extremely obscure bands in there.

Never bad to like the classics. A lot of the times I feel like I missed out a lot in the classics, I've only listened to one Pink Floyd album and haven't listened to a thing by a lot of those. But there's a lot to enjoy if you go searching for some more obscure stuff.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldLk0rQORHY The Chameleons are great, they have the same atmosphere as joy division imo and also make music just as good.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5VtuJROYc8 If you like the Sex Pistols, you may wanna check out John Lydon's other attempt at destroying music. Public Image Ltd is a much more experimental, much weirder band. They make some of the quirkiest music I've ever listened to, and for some reason it's so appealing.

Also I'm gonna pitch in my favorite album of all time, Pink Flag by Wire. Great punk album that came out late 77', and it's something special. I feel like it should be more praised, and help up there with other punk classics like London Calling and Never Mind the Bollocks Here's the Sex Pistols.

Just some recommendations on my part, I can't promise you'll like them but I feel like they're worth checking out at least once. You know there are some albums where you're like "Everyone should check this out at least ONCE!" because they're so good.
