What's in a name? A hero by any other name would kick as much ass.

Well, it's been established that Bruce tried to fully adopt Dick and Jason. It just wasn't legal in that state for a bachelor to do so, regardless of how financially capable he would be to support a single teenager. So, you really can't hold that against him. As for inheritance, Dick had a multi-million dollar trust fund at his disposal by the time he left, and Jason never got the chance, though I'd think it would be safe to assume that he would have had one as well.

I wasn't implying they wouldn't get an inheritance, I meant that they couldn't take their father's name
they couldn't officially join in the Wayne legacy, even though they were unquestionably part of the family
sucks for them

haha holy fuck that's funny. so he adopted the first 2 as well, but in a way that kept them from inheriting his name
that's worse than a wife keeping their maiden name in a marriage and not even with the hyphen
"I've adopted you as my ward. I'll be your legal guardian from now on"
"wow, that's so cool! does that mean you're like my new dad now?"
"more like your supervisor...by the way, you're out of uniform, you should get used to wearing it all the time. Alfred will show you how to mark your timesheet for your training schedule"
