Inductive reasoning is the opposite of deductive, basically deductive reasoning works to use general premises to come to a specific conclusion, for instance Socrates is a man, all men are mortal, therefore Socrates is mortal. Whereas inductive reasoning is opposite, you use specific premises to come to a general conclusion. In this case, he the in order to a conclusion he needed to test the theory. So in this case after the first 1 or 2 he thought, hmm maybe someone is cheating; however, he didn't yet have evidence to support his claim. Which leads to him saying after 10 he decided someone took his teachers manual. It is unfit to come to conclusions without evidence to support them(the large of evidence the higher the probability of being correct). This type of reasoning is the backbone of science.

Sites like 4chan welcome racist comments. He's pretty obviously, while it is not said, using stereotypes; this being clear with the name Jamal being used for the robber. This man also owns an assault rifle which is just icing on the top of his racial possibilities.

1: Racist elements in story.
2: OP finds story funny, takes part in racism with title.
Title doesn't leave much room for interpretation. Pretty obvious what he was going for.

He used two jokes. Which means he will be satisfying two different types of people
1) People who think plays on racism and stereotypes are funny
2) People who enjoy the original joke
Therefore he appeals to two different audience yielding more thumbs for himself. I don't see why you think making a small one layered joke is better than a multi layered joke, even if you interpret it as racism someone one else says HA black people, or HA Jamal got set on fire.
I find it absolutely hilarious that you get angry that's it racist, however you don't get angry at the fact he set Jamal (A muslim name) on fire and watched him burn, wheres the murderer or satanist I don't see one. Just further proves my point that a joke is multi layered and interpreted different from everyone so your premise of racism still holds little water.

The comedic conceit in the story is the power of the flashlight. There is no need to "make a play on racism".
User avatar #214 - sheathedfang (02/08/2014) [-]
Right... as if as joke can't be multi dimensional. You said yourself that he was racist pertaining to the Jamal and Tyrone comment. Well if we were to nitpick it depends on who you define OP as, the poster of this joke on FJ in this case the person who posted this or the actually anon on 4chan. Either way you can't use both people as one example of racism, without acknowledging the play on racist stereotypes. Like I told you Jamal is an Arabic name where as Tyrone can be an Irish name. Two different people used two different names. Since the FJ poster probably didn't make this 4chan post he staged a multidimensional post where he acknowledges the joke and then makes a quip about a common racial stereotype which in fact makes this a joke about a play on racism. Jokes are all interpreted differently there is no way you could in fact know what OP was trying to joke about without properly asking or being told by him. He could be joking about the power of it, he could be joking about the fact he set Jamal on fire. I think this will be my last comment towards this content, there was no reason to argue with you except for the fact you instantly bashed on someone for a joke with an argument that has a weak premise to it. Have a nice day, enjoy.

Key words here "most commonly". I am pretty sure Jamal is also Arabic. Where as Tyrone also has Irish background. He didn't specify any sort of racially distinct thing anywhere in his writing. You just are implying he means they are black stereotypes which just starts brings light to the underlying racism if there is any. Also racist is a commonly joked upon topic. Just because the joke may happen to involve race doesn't make him a racist, did you ever think part of the joke is the play on racism. Doesn't mean he's racist.

You are using deductive reasoning in an unsound way. You are claiming this
Guy is posting on 4chan
4chan is racist
Guy is racist
Those are false premises with a false conclusion, you are stating evidence that has no backing rather than a large population making racial jokes. That would be like me calling you some sort of stereotypical thing since you are here posting on FJ.

Sites like 4chan welcome racist comments. He's pretty obviously, while it is not said, using stereotypes; this being clear with the name Jamal being used for the robber. This man also owns an assault rifle which is just icing on the top of his racial possibilities.

By implying Jamal is black by calling OP a racist you are the person adding a parameter, which means you sir are the person who is being racist. Also owning a gun doesn't = racist

Never said owning a gun made you racist. And he's obviously using a stereotype.
User avatar #262 - sheathedfang (02/08/2014) [-]
He's using a name, you are the one implying a stereotype by acknowledging it as such.

He's not acknowledging that he's using one, but it is obvious. I myself am not racist, but it's pretty obvious why he chose the name Jamal.
