There are competitions for old fashioned bows as well though, I've just never had the time or inclination to go to any.

Fair enough, I don't compete in tournaments, just mess around with my local archery club, so I have no need for a big powerful modern bow.

I used to do the same, but after getting sucked into the tournament circuit, I could never go back. Its like going from a real paintball gun back to a paintball slingshot or something.

I've never gone in for the carbon fiber composite bows. I've got an old fashioned yew English Longbow, and I'm currently learning to fletch my own arrows.
It may not be as powerful as the modern bows, but theres just something more satisfying about doing it the old fashioned way.

I shoot in national / international tournaments. unless I'm in the mood to waste a flight and hotel fee or gas money, I'd rather stick with what wins tournaments than what feels "Satisfying"
