My argument is that in the modern world, today, Islam is not a cause of violence, it is a channel through which violence manifests.
In particular, the idea that there is a causal link between % Muslim populations and violence experienced in those countries, is utter nonsense.
The origins of Islam are irrelevant to how it is now. Plenty of things born of violence are no longer a cause of violence today at all.
The book doesn't instruct people to topple regimes that don't allow terrorism.
People who are thrown into anarchy look for purpose. They're angry and blame the west (which for the most part IS to blame) about their lost homes, killed families, destroyed fortunes, but they still have their religion, so they look to that for a purpose.
Violent anger makes what previously seemed like an outdated medieval instruction now sound like a current and relevant doctrine, perhaps even one they were punished for not following.
There's just as much of a trend between Islam and violence as there is poverty / anarchy / desperation and violence. Perhaps Islam contributes to those things, but it does not contribute to violence directly.

Christian monks smuggled books from the middle east?
You do realise that the Ottoman Empire had huge swaths of territory in Europe and the Moors in Spain also left cultural and linguistic marks on the people, not to mention books and knowledge that permeated long after they were expelled from those regions? It'd be more accurate to say that Europeans inherited them.

ERE had been destitute due to the attempts to reclaim the old Roman territories instigated by Justinian I, it lead to the near bankruptcy of the Empire and was one of the earliest reasons for it's eventual decline. It gave the Arabs the opportunity they need to take those territories because the Empire was stretched so thin by war exhaustion and economic failure, more it's citizens were leaving the cities and the level of learning, education and trade had plummeted. So yes they held off the Sassanids but they still had problems even without the Arab conquests or the Sassanids.

550 jihads waged.
Most against other muslims of different sects.

9 crusades.
Which were of a completely different scale and context than the previous islamic conquests.

Also Frederick I's school was completely monastic and completely omitted anyone who wasn't Christian/Catholic.

Again I'm not blaming the Yanks only stating a historical fact, they used the pretext of terrorism and non-existent weapons of mass destruction only to then steal a nations oil and leave it with no infrastructure all of which has lead to the rise of ISIS so yeah not going to lie but they're kind of responsible or at least the Bush administration was. Oh and Tony Blair for being a cunt too. If you want to learn more about how the United States caused the current divides in Iraq look up the name ''Jim Steele'', he got shias to fight sunnis deepening the hatred between them.
And I agree, it is a nice opinion. How observant.

Also, forgot about the Moors.
Their Golden age was filled with large cities that were small and not a year went by without christian rebellions. One commander described that the Christians that were killed were put on piles higher than a man on a horse.
So, the cultural influence is very small if nonexistent and the only thign we have is the records of events, if they aren't lost or destoryed.
Also, in the Sultans private quarters you could hear more slavic language than Turkish.

No, not really. The Islamic golden age was a myth, the ottoman culture is pretty much destroyed in Turkey, and the pseudo-arabic culture remained only in Bosnia. Those books and knowledge were again, translated.
> It'd be more accurate to say that Europeans inherited them.
False, monks bought and smuggled those books. Don't use mental gymnastics to twist the truth apologist.

On the contrary, they held of the muslims pretty well, they would have defeated them if it wasn't for the 4th crusade.

False, most were against non-muslims

Defensive wars, against the muslim inviders.

Wow, that's so relevant.

If by that you mean Easter Roman Empire, you're implying they didn't demolish Constantinople and impose their new system from scratch, which they did.
>>no true muslim
Also, by that logic Muhammed is not a muslim

I'm not sure what you were replying to there, I don't remember mentioning anything about true muslims.

>Not really, it's because the west fucked them up, and they pretty much took the bait.
Fucking hell, of course islam will cause whatever it wants to topple former regimes, their prophet started his conquest by raiding merchant caravans and genociding villages.
You're assuming that Islam as a whole has a consciousness, like they have a collective hive-mind to topple dictator regimes because while those regimes are fundamentalist, they're not terrorist enough?
Also, Ireland went through chaos of famine and then freeing themself from control via the route of terrorism and religion was a primary motivator there for terrorism on both sides. Religion is an avenue for extremism and violence to manifest and provides an excuse for a puspose, no religion directly causes terrorism.
User avatar #72 - schnizel (44 minutes ago) [-]
Muhammad organized 65 military campaigns in the last ten years of his life and personally led 27 of them. The more power that he attained, the smaller the excuse needed to go to battle, until finally he began attacking tribes merely because they were not yet part of his growing empire.

After Muhammad’s death, his successor immediately went to war with former allied tribes which wanted to go their own way. Abu Bakr called them 'apostates' and slaughtered anyone who did not want to remain Muslim. Eventually, he was successful in holding the empire together through blood and violence.

There is not another religion in the world that consistently produces terrorism in the name of God as does Islam. The most dangerous Muslims are nearly always those who interpret the Quran most transparently. They are the fundamentalists or purists of the faith, and believe in Muhammad’s mandate to spread Islamic rule by the sword, putting to death those who will not submit. In the absence of true infidels, they will even turn on each other.

>I'm not sure what you were replying to there, I don't remember mentioning anything about true muslims.

>You're assuming that Islam as a whole has a consciousness, like they have a collective hive-mind to topple dictator regimes because while those regimes are fundamentalist, they're not terrorist enough?
>Damage control
It's not a hive mind, but they do follow the book that instructs them to do so, it's a basic pattern that even an idiot would know. Also, stop derailing from the topic.
> no religion directly causes terrorism.

Well, for a school project, I have to compare the different school systems from European countries. And I have to do Eastern Europe and the Balkans. What I would like to know, is how the Bosnian schooling system works, what the curriculum is, from what ages you go to school, what the cultural views are on education. Such as that it is either meant just to teach you stuff for a job, or if it's also viewed as something that is also meant to teach morality. If you also know the systems/cultural views form other Balkan countries, please, do tell.

P.S. I won't be responding the next 30 minutes, gotta eat.
User avatar #4994 to #4983 - schnizel (10/20/2014) [-]
>is how the Bosnian schooling system works
Works and working is an imaginary word here in Bosnia. It's broken to the core, we learn stuff that we are never going to use and use stuff that we know nothing about.
> is how the Bosnian schooling system works,
Well, we have middle school (osnovna skola), and then we go into gimnazija (high school) or a high school designed for certain professions (tehnicka skola, grafica, muzicka), etc...
>what the curriculum is
let me google what that means........
> from what ages you go to school
8 for me, 7 for most. Dad didn't want the school to ruin my childhood, or life in that matter. Once I get crowned emperor I will make the reforms made by Augustus look miniscule.
>what the cultural views are on education.
Nothing much, except for cultural clashes when it comes to language which is closer than Swedish and Norwegian. Or religion in classes, the secularist tried to ban it but kids want an extra 5 to improve their overall score.
5=A
1=F
> Such as that it is either meant just to teach you stuff for a job,
Gimnazija not so much, and the schools for professions, only a bit for the "gifted".
> or if it's also viewed as something that is also meant to teach morality.
Our Democracy teacher hit an old man and gave him 50 KM so that he won't call the police. And she talks **** about Hitler and any other bad goy in history and talks about how democracy is good but we aren't using it "In a correct way".
>If you also know the systems/cultural views form other Balkan countries, please, do tell.
They would likely be the same.
User avatar #5003 to #4994 - crazyolitis (10/20/2014) [-]
Learning stuff you'll never use, that is kind of standard with most schools.

You guys have a Democracy teacher? What did they teach you guys there? I think we had something similar. In societystudy we were taught how the government works, and how goverments under different ideologies work, such as communism and fascism.

Also, when I asked for cultural views, I kind of meant about stuff of how culture views schooling, such as that it is the single most important thing in Japan, and that a mother's only job is to basically make sure the child succeeds. Or if it is really relaxed when it comes to schooling

Also, are schools funded by the national state, or is funding down by the provinces themselves?

You know, ISIS is probably a way by them for the west to become anti-Islamic. Think about it. Through immigration, the amount of muslims grows. However, a christian/atheistic west is their only ally well, it's the closest thing they've got for allies . If the west becomes islamic, they will lose support from the westN No more support from the west, it will become a muslim man-hunt for jews, in the middle east, and in Europe, spelling their own doom. ISIS is the worst of the worsts the muslims have to offer so far, creating western hatred for muslims.

The "What newspaper does Schnizel read? - The Daily Reminder" joke. I got an idea to make a couple of mock-newspapers and upload them as a "if various FJ users had their own magazines". Thoughts?

Also, I need ideas for other users, I'm contemplating making one called "The Morning Star" with the editor-in-chief being krasnogvardiech being a Soviet/Communist-themed (therefore named "THЗ MФЯИIЙG STДЯ"), but I can't make a comp with only two newspapers. :-/

another fun line - i'll explain the background to that to you first
we had a politician called Thilo Sarazzin who wrote a book on immigrants , book was called " Germany abolishes itself " for which he got a lot of hate.

so then the comedian said this
"According to Sarazzin , the problem in Greece is same as in Berlin - Too few real Germans. If we had real Germans everywhere , they'd have a proper economy , we wouldn't have all these problems , a German captain wouldn't have sunk the Costa Concordia , there just aren't enough real Germans in the world , we shouldn't have lost that war. A bit of a humorous anecdote from the Eastern Balkans.

I hadn't even arrived in Romania and my luggage had gone missing*. ******* gypsies I'm off to a good start here; Less than an hour in the country and I'm down to the clothes on my back and my usual shoulder-bag.

At this rate by the time I'm leaving Romania I'll be down to half a toe-nail. -___-

*Turns out they forgot to put my luggage on the plane in Copenhagen in the first place, so I'm not really justified on being angry at the Romanians yet. Do I feel entitled enough to do so anyway? **** yeah!
User avatar #4941 to #4932 - caffeinecommissar (10/13/2014) [-]
Yesterday didn't fare much better; A police officer harassed my father (who lives in Romania).

Have you ever tried hiding archers/skirmishers in tall grass? Tie up most enemy forces, and when they think that they can flank you, BAM. Spears through the back of their skulls. Counterattack? Skirmishers are too fast. Pulling back the troops means holes in the line, holes in the line lead to free units of your own, so you can surround them. result: UTTER ANNIHALATION.

Well, there is a Total war: Alexander. Although it's short, small and not that good.

User avatar #4921 to #4920 - schnizel (09/24/2014) [-]
Well, when talking about bad, you have to say bad for who. But I would most likely have a united Europe instead of a large *********** of people that started a religion to unite themselves only to **** eachother the same way they did before.
And I mean, it shouldn't have been European nationsVS European nations, with the Muslim world united that would be the dumbest thing to do.
