Perhaps I phrased that wrong. Let me be more clear.

Simply put, your religious beliefs have no place in an argument of logic and reason. It's the fact that you thought your personal beliefs were at all relevant to the topic at hand that throws your credibility into question, not simply the fact that you are religious.

In other words, the first person to bring religion into an argument that was not originally about religion (or having anything to do with religion) accomplishes only two things:
1. the derailing of the argument
and
2. relieving themselves of all likelihood of being taken seriously should they attempt to further argue their point.

No matter what lies anyone may tell you, the argument of gay marriage is not religious. In fact, by the laws of our constitution it can't be religious. This is because (and this is something people really must be made to understand) in the eyes of the state marriage itself has nothing to do with god. Marriage is first and foremost an institution of the state, and the constitution says that church and state are separate entities.This is why one must acquire a marriage license if one wishes to be married--you can't just say your vows in front of a priest (or other qualified official) and expect the state to to acknowledge your union. If those religious peoples among us want to tack additional meaning onto the union of two individuals under the eyes of the state, that is their opinion (and one they are entitled to). However, the fact that said additional meaning has been tacked on should not in any way effect how the state handles the laws governing the making of that union.

TL;DR
State =! Church
Church =! State
And (in a perfect world) never betwixt the two should meet. Sadly this is not a perfect world, but we should still strive to keep the two as far apart as humanly possible.
User avatar #96 - sasorikingofrocks (06/08/2013) [-]
Oh I know there's a separation between church and state. Obviously you're not understanding me at all. Let me use "Logic" which you have so flawlessly mastered.

I brought up something that I feel justifies my thoughts, and you decided to punch it in the kidney, and send it packing, simply because you don't find it credible that I believe in God. The bible states, that a man who sleeps with another man is an abomination. Or something along those lines, and now that is what I believe. Like I said, gay people can get married if they want, that's not my issue. Marriage is a union of two people who love each other, and yes, gay people can love each other. My point, is that this guy said that fat people are disgusting, and I'm not allowed to get offended because it is his personal opinion and he didn't mean offense by it. But when I say that gay people are disgusting, and expect no gay people to be offended simply because it's my opinion and I don't mean offense by it. I'm just saying what I truly believe to be right. This had nothing to do with marriage until you misconstrued my words haha.

"they'll all burn in hell because of their choice"

You sound so reasonable and logical until you mention religion, you know that? The moment you mention religion all your credibility flies out the window.
User avatar #94 - sasorikingofrocks (06/07/2013) [-]
I should rephrase that though, you're right. It is my own personal belief that gay people will be sent to Hell to burn in its fires for all eternity once they have lived to the end of their days. *
User avatar #91 - sasorikingofrocks (06/07/2013) [-]
Why are you questioning my personal belief though? I believe in God sir, and who are you to hate me for that, I don't hate you because you don't like religion. In fact I pity you, because you don't know what eternal love feels like. Too bad you can't feel this, it's awesome bro .
Here is my exact belief on homosexuality.
Go ahead and be a homo. It doesn't affect my personal life one bit. Go ahead and get married, it also doesn't affect me. Have all the butt-sex and scissoring you want, it still doesn't affect me. As a matter of fact, I'm just going to live my life as I normally would, and the only way a homo's gonna make me angry is if he actually does something that makes me mad. However, God judges everyone, and already has a plan for everyone, so I will not interfere. If gay marriage is made legal, well then that's God's plan. If all of a sudden every one whos slept with the same sex drops dead because of God, well then that's God's plan. I am not the person to interfere with his work .

Get this into your head.

Everyone has problems with their natural body type. Either too fat or too skinny.

But they overcome those problems because they choose to. The same way you are fat because you do not choose to over come those problems.

I personally have massive thigh muscles and a fat ass. To make it so i do not have a ghetto booty I have to do a shit ton more cardio than my friends. The only difference between most fat people and in shape people in the inshape people choose to put in extra effort to counter balance their short comings physcially, fat people choose not to.
User avatar #88 - sasorikingofrocks (06/06/2013) [-]
That's true, no one believes they are perfect in their own respect, there's nothing I need to get into my head. If I were to choose the proper way to look at it, I never chose to be fat, however, I chose to remain fat, which is why I accept being fat. If I'm not going to work towards changing it, then how can I in good mind complain about it? I think all in all, my point here was, I respect his opinion, because that is what he is entitled to, I do not however respect the way he worded it, and that is my opinion, which I am also entitled to.
