"The war in Vietnam was to protect our and everybody else's freedom. "
ok lets lay down some facts
Communists party members take an oath, part of that oath is a vow to spread communism, communism was spreading, United States stepped in to stop the spread. Please tell me how that isn't protecting freedom.

Growing up in an Air Force family, with my dad having worked on a base that housed SR-71s during the cold war, I can say this.
Unofficially, SR-71s had no maximum speed. It more or less relied on how big the balls were on the pilot flying it. If you didn't have the balls to push the envelope, you didn't go faster. As I said, this is unofficial, and probably merely only SR-71 pilots preening themselves, but nevertheless, an awesome machine.
Another fun thing I should mention. The Soviets tried on numerous occasions to try and shoot down the SR-71s, akin to what they did to the U-2 spy plane. The closest they ever gotten? little over 5 miles. The Pilot would receive a missile lock on his aircraft, and just gun it. Just imagine that....five miles was the closest they ever got.

Sorry phrased my original post badly. Essential employees will be paid...just not right now. Most departments are guaranteed pay for essential workers but that pay is being held for the duration of the shutdown (or at least for the foreseeable future). Money later doesn't pay bills now
All essential workers are being paid if i'm not mistaken.
Essential people are still payed - My dad is an ATC, hes still getting paid, though all his vacation days are now unpaid.
