you've never written data to it? it's new? deleting data in windows is really just marking the space as empty, the data is still there

relax. consider the other possibilities.
here's what im viewing right now
you have a broken hard drive. now, you're saying it's empty over and over again, but if it's really empty and devoid of data, you've never used it. so, you have a broken, new hard drive. dead on arrival parts exist, but i dont really think that's whats happened.
you can ask any of the regulars on the board. if i open up a file in windows, right click it and hit delete, i can recover that file. the file doesn't magically disappear into nothingness. the space that it was occupying is marked as free, and the os can write to it.
if you want to remove data, you need to mark the entire drive as free by formatting it, and then write junk to the drive so it can't be recovered. there are plenty of free utilities to both recover and shred hard drives. if i send a hard drive like yours to be repaired, the platters will simply be moved to another, functioning hard drive, and the data will be pulled from the drive.

I know about that.
You should have realized by now that the "data" has no damn value to me. It's fucking worthless.
Also, it's a 2 year old disk and it's unable to get formatted.

you should have realized by now that I am not your subordinate, and getting mad at me is both pointless and time consuming.
you just said that "Once you delete something, it's fucking GONE." which isn't true.
you didnt bother googling "hdd clicking noise" and instead recorded a video, wrote up a post, and are now sitting here reading this.
you mentioned 3 times that it's empty, which it apparently is not, and 0 times that you dont care about the data. good for you.
you're ignoring the fact that physically destroying the drive is the only reliable way to ensure that data cant be accessed by another person.
you really are trying to sell one used, broken, micro usb hard drive. im not sure who the target audience is, even for parts. but if you can get a sale, again, good for you.
if anything, i should have realized that you really didnt know about that, because you dont know that if a hard drive is making that noise, it's probably fucking broken.
feel free to keep posting and all, we really are just random users who get their kicks from helping people deal with their tech issues.
have a great day, and thanks for contacting the tech board.

I'm not mad at you.

The clicking noise is made by the reading pin trying to read the disk.

"you're ignoring the fact that physically destroying the drive is the only reliable way to ensure that data cant be accessed by another person" - I never said i'm gonna destroy the fucking thing, i said i'm gonna sell it because it's still partly usable and i don't care about the data being accessed by another person because all i had on the disk were movies which i deleted before storing it.

Thank you and goodbye.

It is read by the computer. It appears as Local Disk G:.

The capacity/used space all read 0 bytes.

When i click yes, nothing happens for a couple secs and then i get a message that says "unable to format drive" or something along those lines.

Try this to backup your data to another HDD. I saved a drive that didn't even show up in Computer thanks to that.
Also you should try another SATA interface to see if the behavior of your drive changes, it can be via another external drive case, or one of those drive cases you can buy alone, or directly to your motherboard if you know how to do that.

Other than that, what can you do with the drive ? Does it appear in Computer ? In Disk Manager ? If yes can you see the capacity/used space bar ? When it asks to format, what happens when you hit Yes ? When you hit No ?

Yeah but I find it stupid to rock a MacBook and only use Windows on it (although that's precisely what I'm doing now).
And that 256Gb ssd is waaaaayy more restrictive than I thought it would be.

I bought it for a specific audio editing software, $1.5k license, but the only available cracked version isn't compatible with OSX.8 and further.

I'll probably sacrifice the resolution for the entry-level XPS15.
