Hey, I'm new, and I don't have any idea what avatar to use, but after this image roll, I'd kinda like to use this robot guy, it's funny to me. Is it yours, and can I use it? funnyjunk.com/Mind+games/text/5504087/

Hello there!
User avatar #27 to #2 - robobloxx (01/02/2014) [-]
That is pretty cool, did you get much homework over winter break?
User avatar #28 to #27 - robobabe (01/02/2014) [-]
We have semesters, so none. We had finals before break.
User avatar #29 to #28 - robobloxx (01/02/2014) [-]
Oh man, I almost forgot about finals. How was your finals week? Was it as hectic as everyone elses?
User avatar #30 to #29 - robobabe (01/02/2014) [-]
Probably not. I had 1 difficult exam and 2 easy ones. That was it.
User avatar #31 to #30 - robobloxx (01/02/2014) [-]
Huh what was the difficult exam? My finals week was extremely easy, all of my classes were easy except my physics class, which didnt have a final exam to my luck!
User avatar #32 to #31 - robobabe (01/02/2014) [-]
Calc 3 was the difficult one, mostly due to my professor.
User avatar #33 to #32 - robobloxx (01/02/2014) [-]
Whats up with your prof? Also Im going to take my first real Calc class next year, even though Im taking a class now that calculus was supposed to be a prereq to .__. Anything I should be aware of beforehand?
User avatar #34 to #33 - robobabe (01/02/2014) [-]
Just memorize the formulas for derivatives and integrals, and don't forget the chain rule. Most of that will mean nothing now, but it will make sense later. If you need help with it, just ask ^^

He gave quizzes that he said would be "just like the ones in the book" then weren't, then he said "tests would be just like the quizzes" and then they weren't.
User avatar #35 to #34 - robobloxx (01/02/2014) [-]
Cool, Ill make sure to ask if I have any questions.

I had a class like that, but I couldnt remember what subject. What did you do in order to pass the test?
#3 to #2 - robobloxx (01/02/2014) [-]
Whats up?
User avatar #4 to #3 - robobabe (01/02/2014) [-]
Not much, writing my team an email about kickoff for robotics.
User avatar #5 to #4 - robobloxx (01/02/2014) [-]
What all do you do when it comes to robotics?
User avatar #6 to #5 - robobabe (01/02/2014) [-]
I currently mentor a team, but I used to be a team captain, and did everything from mechanical, to electronics and programming. I had a hand in every part of the robot.
User avatar #7 to #6 - robobloxx (01/02/2014) [-]
I liked doing mechanics and electronics when I made the only robot I ever did, but I hated doing programming for it.
I made a really simple robot that could move on four wheels and had a swiveling arm to grab stuff when I took an engineering class. I thought it was fun.
User avatar #8 to #7 - robobabe (01/02/2014) [-]
Were/are you on a FIRST robotics team?
User avatar #9 to #8 - robobloxx (01/02/2014) [-]
Nah, I just did the robot as part of a class project. But, I remember hearing about other people that were doing it. Ive never really gotten into any clubs or teams.
User avatar #10 to #9 - robobabe (01/02/2014) [-]
I wasn't really either up until Robotics happened. Best decision of my life.
User avatar #11 to #10 - robobloxx (01/02/2014) [-]
It sounds like its been a pretty awesome experience, what do robotics teams actually do?
User avatar #12 to #11 - robobabe (01/02/2014) [-]
We build robots to compete in a worldwide competition. Every year teams get 6 weeks (starting this Saturday, actually) to build a robot that will compete with each other. The games are announced (usually) the first Saturday of the year. If you youtube "FIRST game video Lunacy 2009" you should be able to find an example of the game.
User avatar #13 to #12 - robobloxx (01/02/2014) [-]
Thats pretty neat, just to be given a set of objectives and to build a robot to meet those. Seems like good practice for any engineering work, are you going to be an engineering student?
User avatar #14 to #13 - robobabe (01/02/2014) [-]
I am a biomedical engineer. Rather, I am in college to be.
User avatar #17 to #14 - robobloxx (01/02/2014) [-]
Biomed huh, thats pretty damn awesome. Ive always been attracted towards planes and space, so when I go to college I'm planning on working towards being an aerospace engineer. What college do you go to?
User avatar #18 to #17 - robobabe (01/02/2014) [-]
Michigan Tech, in the northern part of Michigan.
User avatar #21 to #18 - robobloxx (01/02/2014) [-]
Its awesome that youre already in college, I am not looking forward to applying. I want to go to Rose Hulman, which is where my brother is going, but its supposed to be hard to get into and extremely tough ;-;

How have your classes been going?
User avatar #22 to #21 - robobabe (01/02/2014) [-]
I have heard that Hulman is a great place to go, keep your grades up and apply as early as you can.

Pretty good.
User avatar #23 to #22 - robobloxx (01/02/2014) [-]
Rose is supposed to be pretty good, but there are a lot of things I have to consider when applying there that make me think I should go somewhere else. Ive heard that engineering students have a particularly hard time in college, do you think thats the case? Its always kind of worried me
User avatar #24 to #23 - robobabe (01/02/2014) [-]
Its certainly not high school, but its doable, assuming you don't run out and be an idiot, actually get your homework done and don't spend your time getting drunk as most college kids seem to. Also, staying in touch and being nice with your professors is VERY important.
User avatar #25 to #24 - robobloxx (01/02/2014) [-]
Well that doesnt sound bad at all, Ive always had an easy time talking and stuff with all my engineering and science teachers. One of my future engineering teachers is actually a pretty good friend of mine outside of school. How does Michigan Tech hold up in the cool teacher department?
User avatar #26 to #25 - robobabe (01/02/2014) [-]
Its pretty black or white. Either teachers are amazing or they are terrible. No real in-between. Also, sometimes you are able to talk with professors and save hundreds on buying books, most the professors I have had let me know when I talked to them that the books really weren't important in the class, and didn't assign homework or anything important from them.
