How much does the 1% make a year? Like a million/yr or what? I never paid attention to the amount of money it takes before you move up to a different lifestyle.

Top 1% is $430,000.

To be part of the globe's 1%, you only need an income of $35,000 US.

A quick google says that the qualifier to be in the 1% is $450,000 a year as a household

That sounds possible but maybe I'm just too hopeful. I always thought the "1%" earned around 1M a year

More people need to see this. They'd be surprised by just how many people in the "1%" are living in average houses, driving average cars, and are just generally ordinary.

People ignorantly justifying their actions without knowing all the facts aren't just a big problem here, but all over the world.

It's bullshit. People earning 450K a year do not do these things and this guy is either lying about one thing or another. 450 THOUSAND a year is what makes you the 1%. They earn 4 times the cost of my childhood home in one year. They earn 20 years of my income in one year. They can buy 25 of my cars in one year. Don't fucking act like they are normal people living like the rest of us. They don't struggle, they don't worry about paying rent, they don't worry about putting food on the table, they don't have to worry about when to pay one bill and when to pay another and if they can afford to put more onto a credit card or if the interest would be too much.

I have nothing against rich people. But don't fucking pretend like they are the same as the rest of us. Fuck. You.

The reason my family got to the 1% and being able to buy all the things you listed is because my mom went in to medical school and spent well over a decade of her life in school and in 60 hour work weeks doing residency to be able to build her practice, where she has to pay TENS OF THOUSANDS in malpractice insurance just to be able to have her job. My father dropped out of college young and went back later to get a business degree. They got where they were because they worked for it and managed their money well. And guess what, they grew up in households that sounded very much like what you described and they worked for what they have. Am I reaping the fruits of their labor, and growing up with a higher standard of living than they had? Yes, I am. But I'm not some party frat fucktard drinking their life away at college parties. I'm working part time while attending school full time with an academic (merit based) scholarship.

You don't get rich by spending all your money.

But just that the public has that certain image of them, you know? Like the people they think are the 1% are more like the 0.1%. It's crazy to me.
