the term "literally" means that the specified subject actually happened. and in the context of the story, It seems likely that it literally happened considering how mundane it would've been if it were metaphorical.
please tell me, how can you "figuratively" or throw your prosthetic leg at someone?
#49 - raginglolsquid (05/06/2014) [-]
The fact that you have a prosthetic leg could be something to "throw" at the person as a tool to make that person feel bad. That wouldn't be literally throwing it, but using the word to convey "I have a prosthetic leg and used that fact to make the person guilty."
Obviously not something that one would say, but you can figuratively throw your prosthetic leg at someone.

I agree that it isn't wrong, it's just kind of stupid. Like it makes sense when you say something like, there literally was a cow on the ice, because this also has a figurative meaning. You don't ever say "She threw her prostetic leg at him" figuratively. That doesn't happen. Therefore, saying literally in that sentence, while correct, is unneccesary.
