I mean, if it works at whatever level you are playing at then by all means use it. I will say one you start getting into higher tier environments you will be punished heavily for constantly getting away from your team unless you're just INSANE at this game.

Im good at sneaking. Plus i talk to my team through discord to coordinate the fights.
Sometimes when i see enemy rushers i ignore them but instead tell my team where they are in order to maintain hidden until i get to a vantage point. I both fight and scout for the team.

Flanking position? Generally being in a position to flank will hurt your team unless you're dropping 30s every match. It's sort of viable on CT, but it's why they call them "long flank" as a callout for whatever site they are on. It's because it takes so long to get there. So flanking is only viable on CT when your team gave up the site without too much damage done to your team and are playing retake. On T side it's almost NEVER viable to flank when playing against a decent team. There are only a few outcomes of you playing in that manner:
1. Team pushes a site away from you, gets demolished due to you not being there to split/push
2. You get picked early from a planned CT push
3. You get picked from losing an aim duel in a 1v1
4. You get a kill but get traded by the other member playing that site/area
5. You get caught off guard due to something stupid while you are flanking

list can go on for a while

Usually it gets the most aggressive hostiles to target me attempting to locate me.
Allowing my team to set a strong position.
At least that's what i experienced.
I kill anyone inspot on my way behind them and i often find others trying to flank my team, by taking them out my team have less risks being surrounded and killed in a crossfire.
I dont play to get shit ton of kills nor to trade kills as you say.
I play to solidify my teams positions by bevoming a distraction and a threat for crossfire to the enemy.

It's all situational, but in the situation you are mentioning the first player still contributed more. He has over 100 ADR, four entry kills, and nine assists. This means more than likely he is getting a SHIT ton of damage off on a player or two each round and more than likely being the more aggressive player. Especially if you are saying the other teammate with 24 kills is getting trade kills off of a 101 ADR player and has less first kills. Just means the second player is in a position to trade kill for a player who is pumping out a shit ton of damage and getting information out there. The first is still doing much more.

Good thing i like to take things at a calm pace around the map then hit targets from flanking positions. Many assists and kills.
So i usually get more like a combo of the two options you put up

Kills don't really matter past a certain point. A player who gets these stats:
12 kills, 9 assists, 16 deaths, 4 first kills, 101 ADR

played better for his team than:

24 kills, 2 assists, 17 deaths, 1 first kill, 89 ADR

Unless many kills are "savior kills" where a teamplayer is fighting someone but is about to be killed then you kill the enemy, saving your teammate
