That's a good spot.
in your professional opinion, which is better; a well protected, gated community that's nearby to where i live (that i have relatives in) or an insanely well protected house with electric fences, guns galore, solar & wind farms, & several lifetimes worth of food all the way on the other side of the u.s.?
Depends on weather you have a bunch of people with you or not.
But I'd say the nearest soloution is the best.
However, if you can make it, the trip to the other location might be worthwhile. You just have to keep in mind the dangers of traveling (albeit typically safer day to day than staying in one place) and of course the time it will take to get there. You may be force to walk for long stints.
well, first of all, whether, not weather.
of all of my friends, i have decided that 5 (including myself) have the mix of strength, intelligence and paranoia that would let them survive long enough to be useful. i have two cars, enough to comfortably take them and luggage across the nation. however, there's only one gun, one sledgehammer and one (possibly unusable) medieval sword between the five of us. could we make the trip? two girls and three boys, by the way, all bisexual athiests with questionable morals and some fighting experience each.
Well I don't see what your morals or theistic preference has to do with it...
But as for that sword, if you were to fill a milk jug with water, would the sword slice it in half? If yes, it will probably do the trick.
I'd recommend making the trip, and as soon as possible. Stop along the way to check buildings for more supplies. whenever you stop, be sure to always investigate in pairs, and never leave anyone alone. Building interiors are the most dangerous, because Zombies could possibly jump you, another reason to use the buddy system. In AMC's Walking Dead, the characters form a phalanx when possible, which is a good way to keep each other covered.
Got anyone in your group who works out regularly? Give the sledgehammer to them, as they will be best equipped to use a heavy weapon for long periods of time. otherwise leave it as its pretty much dead weight. Give the best shot among you the gun, obviously, but use it sparingly. Remember noise attracts zombies. Sound and smell are their most accute senses.
Lastly make sure everyone is armed, preferably with a weapon thats got some length to it. Longer weapons can keep biting zombie mouths at bay, and lessen the chances of anyone getting bitten. Also, be sure that evryone is comfortable with the weapon they have. no sense giving your weakest member a baseball bat, when a makeshift spear might suit them better. (side tip: Stabbing weapons require less strength than axes or machetes, and blunt weapons like hammers or baseball bats require a lot of strength to use effectively)
Well that's about all I can tell you. Good luck, and happy hunting.
