You can't take away the knowledge once its there. Guns are weapons to kill. But so is any object when someone has the mentality to do harm. I mean primitive mankind started out killing each other with sharpened rocks tied to sticks. Once mankind learned how to make weapons, that was it; they are there to stay until something more effective comes around. By trying to ban guns, all you do is insure that the only ones who have guns are the people who already have bad intent. Was it dumb to fight back? Maybe. He might have lived. But he had a choice. Which is more than he would have had without the weapon. There's every possibility that the robber still would have killed him. The guy in white was closer to him than anyone else, and had the best chance of identifying him in a line up. He was a legitimate threat to the robber's plan of not getting caught.

And to follow up on your "live harmoniously together" bullshit. That will literally never happen. People have fought each other since the beginning of recorded history over anything and everything. From religion, to skin color, to simple blind hate, or someone who is different for any reason. Humanity has violent and primal tendencies, and you would have to remove all semblance of free will in order to enforce a lasting harmony.

What kind of sense does it make to rob a store in broad daylight with witnesses? What kind of sense does it make to turn your back to everyone else in the store while you get uncomfortably close to some random dude? Why is he not actively demanding money so he can get out as soon as possible? The robber is not a bright individual, and is acting stupid from the beginning. To assume he wouldn't have shot someone for no reason is dumb.

It doesn't matter if he's doing it to "Effectively rob the store." The reality is, he's using a firearm to demand complacency with the implied notion that disobeying means death. That means intent to kill if he truly wants to "Effectively rob the store."

He's obviously not smart enough to think of the "Gee wiz if I do this I'll sure get in a lot of trouble" mentality because he's robbing a goddamn store at gunpoint, in broad daylight, with dozens of witnesses. Good job proving yourself wrong.

Armed robbery is armed robbery. If you're at the point where you're so desperate you need to rob a store at gunpoint, you either lost your moral compass or you put the gun down when you see someone else (a legal gun owner and innocent bystander) draw a gun on you. If his intent was truly "Not to kill" he wouldn't have done so. But he did. And guess what? He died for it. One less moron and one less hero. The difference is, one man died defending innocent bystanders and the other died threatening them.

The choice is still there, whether you have a gun or not. When the guy pulls the gun, you don't know if he's there for money, someone's life, or both. All you are responsible for is your response. No amount of ethics courses can help you predict the outcomes of your chosen actions, because you cannot control nor predict how others will respond. You have to do what you think is right, and live or die with consequences.

I'd rather the criminal get gunned down than make it out of there.

Or he would have killed the guy in white as an example. Or maybe the mother and her child. Perhaps after getting what he wanted he killed every one there in order to not leve witnesses.

Nah, you know what, never mind. If this is your argument, you're way too far up your own extremist fantasy where everyone can have utensils whose sole purpose is murder and live harmoniously together.

That's a very naive assumption to make.
Robbers don't have to set an example. This was not a hostage situation. He was robbing the store, meaning he wanted to get money and get out. Killing people would only help to add a life sentence or get him on death row on top of his charges for robbery should he get caught for it.
Also there's security cameras, so what kind of sense would it have made had he killed everyone?

Before people mindless downvote because "MUH GUNS" "MUH SELF DEFENCE"

As an extremely pro gun person, you don't fucking pull your gun when ones already trained on you

hand over your shit, THEN consider shooting them when they're not OBVIOUSLY going to shoot you as soon as you pull it.
