You cannot have a discussion if you do not know the content, just like I cannot have a discussion with a quantum physicist about quantum physics because I do not know anything about it. That's it. There is no arguing, this is not a place for recommendations.

All you said was "Thanks in advance", which shows a non-personal level of laziness.

You're once again missing the point- it's true that no specific anime or manga was discussed by me, but the general topic of anime and manga was. So, in one way among the rest, I did in fact discuss about anime and manga.

So following the definition of 'discussion' that you brought up: I dealt with the particular topic of anime and manga; I do know what 'anime' is, and so I discussed about it- I discussed about the genre of TV shows called 'anime'.

It's true, I'm a very lazy person, but so far nobody has told me anything bad about the way I thank in advance.

And why deny my friend request? I'm enjoying this small talk, you make a very nice debate partner. I'm Korten, by the way.

"Even if there was one person on this board who likes to recommend shows, that's more than enough of a reason to allow it"

Direct statement by you, so if the words were replaced:

"Even if there was one person on this board who likes talking about what they did shopping today, that's more than enough of a reason to allow it."

So yes, that is your logic.
Like I said before, this is a board for discussion. How can you discuss something you have not ever seen? I don't see you discussing Utena with thekame. I don't see you discussing Hammer Session with yeorgh. I don't see you discussing Denpa Kyoushi or Sayonara Piano Sonata with ImmaAnteater. Because you can't. That's the point of this board, and rec threads do not fall under that.

Also, if you're going to preach pleasantness and being polite, the least you could do is thank them instead of being a twat who just used them as tools.
User avatar #731603 - raincollie (08/07/2013) [-]
This is not my logic; this isn't a board about shopping, but about anime and manga- asking for and getting recommendations is a discussion about anime and manga (not specific ones, but in general) by itself. In that manner, I did just what anime board is all about- discussing anime.

And you're jumping to false conclusions again, I did thank them. Check out the last line in the original thread. I usually thank in advance.

And why the sour face? Are you not enjoying our debate?

Then if you never get things similar to what you ever want, never ask for suggestions. From anyone. Because those those resources are given by real people as well.

By that logic, if there's one person who wants to talk about all the shopping for clothes they did today and one person who replies we should all be accepting of it. That should not be the case.

There are two rules for this board.
1) Don't post porn.
2) The title, anime board. Boards are for discussion, and as the title suggests this is for discussion about anime and manga and all things surrounding them. Discussion is not throwing random titles to people who can't say anything back about them.

So asking you to please not ask us is not pleasant now? Wow, I must have been raised very wrong. And using emoticons makes you look like a fool, especially on this site with these things.
User avatar #731586 - raincollie (08/07/2013) [-]
The point you're missing is that I've actually received good recommendations from people here in the past, in comparison to MAL.
You didn't understand my logic very well, especially in consideration of the second rule you mentioned; if "how anime X is similar to anime Y" is not considered "anime, manga and all things surrounding them", then what is?
And why "can't say anything back about them"? One of the dudes below managed to recommend very good manga to me thanks to our live communication, which is something that pre-written text can't do.

No, asking us not to ask for recommendations is just unreasonable. I was talking about being pleasant while trying to help (e.g. giving out resources).

As for emoticons, I could care less about looking like a fool; I use them in order to express my mood and the tone of my message.

You had two people who gave you something, along with one person who says Utena to every one of these threads. Compare that to the hundreds of people who browse this board every day. That's not a lot who like helping these threads every single day. This board isn't meant to be a social gathering about what you ate this morning but there are one or two people who treat it like that occasionally. Doesn't mean it's accepted.

Some people may, so ask from your friends, not a board that's not meant for it. I gave you the resources, including a site that will literally tell you anime that is similar to what you want with reasons why. Don't ignore it.
User avatar #731606 - thekame (08/07/2013) [-]

I'm not trying to ignore it, I've actually tried to use MAL for a long while in that matter, but I never got results that were similar to what I was looking for, so as I stated before, I just use it in order to recognize voice actors now.

Even if there was one person on this board who likes to recommend shows, that's more than enough of a reason to allow it, because this board doesn't have a rule against asking for recommendations.
When you say 'not accepted', you may imply that some people, like you, don't like seeing them, but not more than that; you can't deny said person's rights in here.

And if, like you imply, you're trying help people, like me, by giving them a helpful resource, you could at least be a bit more pleasant when you do it, rather than shove a "Ugh, another one..." in our face.
There really is no reason to be upset; if not for people like you (more knowledgeable in anime and manga than average), how would people discover the world of anime and manga? People like me need your guidance in that matter, so why don't you do it with a smile?
User avatar #731565 - yusay (08/07/2013) [-]

Also, if you're going to preach pleasantness and being polite, the least you could do is thank them instead of being a twat who just used them as tools.

Are you not enjoying our debate?

discussion - an extended communication (often interactive) dealing with some particular topic; "the book contains an excellent discussion of modal logic"; "his treatment of the race question is badly biased"

By the way, what show is that character with the red hair from? She seems cool.

El Cazador de la Bruja

Not this one, I'm talking about the one in his reaction picture, the girl with the sour face.
El Cazador seems cool as well, by the way!

She's a supporting character.

I just did a reverse image search on that picture, and found out that the character I'm talking about is actually from a show called 'Serial Experiments Lain'. Thanks anyway, though.

I'm Korten, by the way.

couldn't care less*

I meant to say that I don't care about what other people think of my looks.

you shouldn't try to figure out why the people on the anime board are assholes. I think they're just assholes for the sake of being assholes. the anime fans on 4chan are the same way. they get all bent out of shape when someone intrudes on their perfect little world and does something they don't like.

I honestly wasn`t trying to break the norm there, though. I wanted to ask a question, and figured out the most fitting board for it is anime (the question was about oceans in anime), because I thought it would be nice to make friends with people who share the same interest field as mine. I personally don`t mind them insulting me, it doesn`t move me one bit, but I feel sorry for those who, just like me, want to meet other people who watch anime, and WILL be offended by them.

that's just the thing, you don't think you're doing anything wrong, but according to them you are, and they just flip the fuck out and call you an idiot and go on about 'shitposting' and they have this criteria for what is and is not an anime-related post, and god help you if you ask what that is, because there is no way in hell they are going to tell you the secret rules of their perfect little utopia. you have to learn the rules. you have to observe. going into the anime board without knowing the rules is like going up to a pride of lions and giving one a hug. you gotta watch and document just so you can discuss FUCKING CARTOONS.

Kind of stupid that there`s some sort of forum to discuss anime in, where newcomers are never welcomed.
User avatar #5 to #4 - pineappletime (11/27/2012) [-]
yeah it sucks, but it's not like it's kim jong's fault, it's the fault of the people that hang out there all the fucking time. they've set up camp and they're not leaving, not unless 1000 newbies go raid them at the same time, but i doubt that will happen.
don't worry bro, you can talk about anime with me. do you like Soul Eater?
User avatar #6 to #5 - raincollie (11/28/2012) [-]
Sure, I do.

Spirit.

Spirit is hilarious. Crona's my favorite, and Maka.
User avatar #10 to #9 - raincollie (11/29/2012) [-]
I know this question gets asked all the time, but seriously, is Crona a dude or a girl? I already know it hasn`t been officially confirmed yet, but some people say there are some kinds of direct hints of his / her gender.
User avatar #11 to #10 - pineappletime (11/29/2012) [-]
I say girl, because curves.
User avatar #12 to #11 - raincollie (11/29/2012) [-]
I guess that makes sense.
