yeah. you got me. most of the time i post things on face book that i find funny, and the people i know tell me, when they see me in real life (gasp shock what a concept) that they saw it and found it funny. guess they aren't tied to their computers and limited to interacting electronically either.

i like things friends and family post. they like things i post. i'm not the most social or exciting person. the highlight of my week tends to be being able to adjust my work schedule to give myself a day off so i can go kayaking (by my self) and snorkel or enjoy fish/bird/otter watching.

like i said, an hour or so each morning before most people are even out of bed. doesn't leave a shit load of time to waste on any particular site. today's probably the most time i've spent on line in months, so thanks for the wonderfully stimulating conversation, but the wife just woke up. got to go get ready for work after which i'll come home, watch a couple of hours of tv with her before going to bed and starting all over again.

aww!, too cute. what kind is he or she? how've things been with you?
#213 to #212 - mattyjay (11/17/2015) [-]
Duke, is a Goldador. Cross Lab x Retriever! He's a mischevious lil bastard! And pretty sweet recently, not up to much, got a bit of time off work to housebreak the pup, he's taking all my time and energy at the moment, what about yourself?
#214 to #213 - puggles (11/18/2015) [-]
same here, just work and playing with the pups. maggie is a little holy terror! she's super high energy, and constantly into things VERY un-pug like. but she does have a sweet personality. her and bailey get along great, and puggles is happy to sit back and nap and watch them play. i load her up into the car at least once a week and take her to the pet store where we walk around for a 15 minutes or so and she gets petted by strangers and meet new dogs.
#215 to #214 - mattyjay (11/18/2015) [-]
Awh, I assume maggie is a new addition? How old is she? My lil guy is all poo wee eating sleeping but most importantly, games! Glad to hear theyre all getting along. How is puggles' breathing at the mo? (Puggles sounds like me, I like naps) and lucky you, a car is going to be my next addition next year i reckon. My pup is yet to have all his jabs so I can't be too close to other dogs unfortunately.
#217 to #215 - puggles (11/19/2015) [-]
and congrats on the future car. any particular type in mind yet?
#216 to #215 - puggles (11/19/2015) [-]
maggie's 8 months old and bailey's a year and 8 months old. one was born a day before st.patrick's day and the other was born a day after. cool coincidence. the weather here is slowly getting cooler and drier. great for us, but unfortunately, puggles' breathing issues are triggered by the drier air. she's been occasionally coughing, so we've upped her meds a little, which is helping. we're just playing it by ear. when the weather really swings to cold and dry, she'll have to have a humidifier blowing on her to help control the cough. if she was more active it'd be impossible, but since she's content to lay around for hours, it makes dealing with the cough easier.
#218 to #216 - mattyjay (11/19/2015) [-]
Huh, cool coincidence. Makes remembering them easier at least. And yeah that would be nicer for you guys, but very unfortunate for muggles. You need a mask like Bane had in Batman for puggles like some kind of humidifier mask! Here's hoping she'll be okay.

And over here, the cost of a car on the road for a young person is crazy (Road tax: 150ish Lessons/Test: 500 Car: 1000 for an okay runner and Insurance for me is 2700 upwards = £4500 / $6750). So car wise, anything that runs and isn't a piss yellow colour will be adequate for me. E.g. An old vauxhall corsa, old VW polo, old nissan micra, Ford KA etc. etc.
#219 to #218 - puggles (11/20/2015) [-]
we thought about the whole mask thing. we already figured we'd call it her c-pup, instead of c-pap.
wow! didn't realize that it was so expensive for young people to drive. how old do you have to be for the insurance rates come down? still at the pet store?
#220 to #219 - mattyjay (11/20/2015) [-]
I didn't even know there was a mask for that kind of thing, cool. Well here's hoping whatever you do will help. And yeah it's a hell of a lot of money so you can see why it's a struggle. But the older you are, the longer you hold a license (whether you drive or not), location etc. I've got two years no claims on my motorbikes (I don't know how insurance works in the USA but no claims is paying to be insured on a vehicle and if you don't claim on the insurance to replace/repair your vehicle, or any kind of payout, then you earn a year of 'no claims bonus' which insurers take into consideration and lower your premium, the amount you pay for a year of insurance.) but the insurers won't let me use that for a car. So I don't know quite how feasible getting a car is.

And yeah, still at the aquatics store, enjoying it there, I'm quite good there and I'm hoping that within the next few years I can gain a higher position, however the only way I can do that is if the Assistant manager or Manager moved on and I don't think either of them are planning that.
#221 to #220 - puggles (11/21/2015) [-]
yeah, sadly, c-paps are just for people it's a breathing mask that helps with sleep apnea, i don't think they make one for dogs. . sucks that the insurance co's won't let you apply the discount to a car, after all you earned it on the motorbike, and if over there's anything like here, people on the motorbikes usually have less regard for traffic laws than car riders, and it seems like proving you're a decent driver with one would help with the other.

got to run. full day today. will be 13th full day in a row. eckh. planning on having tomorrow (sunday) off and happily will probably have monday off too. planning to do some kayaking/snorkeling then. weather's supposed to be a little too cool and rainy, but i figure i'll be in the water anyway, and i seriously need some relaxation/decompression time!
#222 to #221 - mattyjay (11/22/2015) [-]
Oh no that sucks. I'm sure you'll find something or be able to keep it under control at least.

And over here, its very very easy and cheap for a youth to get a bike on the road, however part of being on the road means you must abide by a few things, one of which being the rider has to have L plates on pic related . Anyway full license riders and other road users HATE L plate riders, as lots of them are young chavs (white trash) and disrespect road rules and are just extremely dangerous in general. Now that is true for the majority of L plate riders so yeah it is similar.

Ouch. I used to have to do long stints at work to get by lol, really no good at all and rest is thoroughly welcomed. Hope the weather holds back and you have a good time!
#223 to #222 - puggles (11/23/2015) [-]
well we have meds that we put her on to keep it some what under control. but it's something that we have to face. she's 14 and each time she has a prolonged attack, (a week or more) of breathing issues it takes a little more out of her. but we keep rubbing her belly and scratching behind her ears, and she still get excited to see us and bouncy when we come home, so as long as she's not in pain we'll do everything to help her but let nature take it's course.
#224 to #223 - mattyjay (11/23/2015) [-]
That's so sad. Everytime you reply makes me more upset about your poor baby! My dog has a pink spot on his upper lip, I think he must have injured it before it came home and it's slowly healing.
#225 to #224 - puggles (11/24/2015) [-]
i just try to remember that, no matter how sad it is for me, she's a creature of the now, not cursed with a future or a past, and as long as now is good for her that's what's important. having her reminds me why i need to have more patience with bailey and maggie and to play with them whenever they are in the mood (constantly! ) instead of putting it off until i'm in the mood.

my monsters get the little pink spots on the lips occasionally. usually it's from an ant bite. seems to take forever to heal, but it goes away eventually.
#226 to #225 - mattyjay (11/28/2015) [-]
**** sorry I never replied mate! Been quite busy recently. But yeah, you're right, she's living for the moment nd that's the moment you create for her. And I can sympathise with you on the energy thing, my pup never wants to stop, but I need to understand that if I tire him out, he will sleep so I need to play when he wants not when I want.

And yeah I had a look at the pink spot again he didn't seem to withdraw when I touch it so it didn't hurt him. Will keep an eye on it.
#227 to #226 - puggles (11/29/2015) [-]
had/having a scare with puggles. she had zero energy and wouldn't eat. had us worried. turns out she had a serious bladder infection that traveled "up stream" to her kidneys. pumping fluids into her and have her on antibiotics. doing much better. fingers crossed.

#189 to #188 - puggles (02/10/2015) [-]
yeah, we tend to avoid that. for VERY short trips she'll balance on the back of my car seat, but otherwise kayaking is a solo activity for me. works good for me, because if i don't regularly get so alone time i get really hard to live with.
#190 to #189 - mattyjay (02/11/2015) [-]
Yeah that's understandable, gentle kayaking is probably better when done on it's own anyway, can take in the sights, go at your own, non-tiring pace, etc.
#191 to #190 - puggles (02/12/2015) [-]
and this week pays for last week's leisure time. looking at a solid week of 12 hour days, fun stuff. definitely not kayaking this week. forgot to mention that sunday the wife and i got to go swim with manatees. it was awesome. we try to do it each year, but this time they were exceptionally friendly. nothing like a 2000 pound animal nudging you like a puppy and then rolling over in the water because it wants a belly rub!
#192 to #191 - mattyjay (02/12/2015) [-]
You should basically cross the mexican border and hide out there selling burritos and pizza riddled with food poisoning instead of working 7 12 hour days. Phwoarrr....

And that is super cool. Where did you go to do that? They are basically water dogs...
#193 to #192 - puggles (02/13/2015) [-]
well last week i only had 3 or 4 customers all week so this week, when i'm having 4 or 5 of day kind of balances out. it's all the fault of that hawaii vacation. i still haven't been able to rebalance my schedule.

crystal river. it's in citrus county on the west coast of florida, just north of tampa. only area in the country where you can touch a manatee without going to jail. it's a heavily regulated activity so that they can make sure that they aren't being harassed

pic of my wife about to get face bumped by a manatee equilivent of a toddler (we figure he or she's about a year old).
#194 to #193 - mattyjay (02/13/2015) [-]
Aha. I see, that must be annoying.

Are the manatees held by a company or just a river? Pardon my ignorance. I hope they do regulate it, the orcas are treated so poorly at seaworld it's sad.

And thats a very cool pic. Must be fun!
#195 to #194 - puggles (02/14/2015) [-]
the manatees are free roaming and wild. the usually live in the ocean near shore and occasionally come into the rivers. in the winter time, when the ocean's temp drop, the manatees (who surprisingly are almost solid muscle with almost no blubber) come into the warmer spring fed rivers to stay warm. you hop into the water near them and then they come up to you and want to be played with and petted. there are state wildlife officials EVERYWHERE making sure that the animals aren't harassed or bothered in any way and to make sure that any interactions with the manatees are on their terms and by their decisions. it's an awesome experience. definitely something i'd recommend to anyone who visits florida in the winter.
#196 to #195 - mattyjay (02/14/2015) [-]
Dang, wish I knew that a couple years back. What are 'their terms'?

What are the consequences of breaching these terms too?

I am actually suprised there is little to no blubber too!
#197 to #196 - puggles (02/15/2015) [-]
"their terms" meaning the manatees come to you, not the other way around and that they must be free to leave at any time. you can hop in the water and swim to with in 10 feet or so of them, but they have to come to you and close the gap.they can't be surrounded by people. you can get beside them on one side only but not in front of them. you can't go under the water but have to stay on top (i.e. with snorkel viable). no approaching or disturbing sleeping ones or mothers with calves. but of course, since they're wild animals THEY are more than capable of breaking the rules (i.e. mom will bring her calf right up to you for you to pet and play with while she goes and takes a power nap on the bottom of the river!) quite a few other rules. get caught breaking the rules and generally it's could be a quite hefty fine or jail time or both depending on the severity of the infraction.
#198 to #197 - mattyjay (02/15/2015) [-]
Aha. Sounds like fun as long as you stay on the right side of the marshalls. So, what would happen if you were lazing on the bank or in shallow water and the mum did bring her calf to you. Can the law still be enforced upon you?

Man, I really wanna try this now!
#199 to #198 - puggles (02/16/2015) [-]
you'd be fine as long as the mom initiates the contact. that's actually happened to us a few times. as long as you use common sense you'll be fine. everyone realizes what a privilege it is just to be able to be within touching distance of the guys and the marshals are pretty good at realizing that you have to be flexible because the animals make their own decisions.
#200 to #199 - mattyjay (02/16/2015) [-]
Aha sweet! I'm very jealous. I went to a pub today for a meal with my mums side of the family (even though i don't live with her) and the pub was family owned and had a HUGE bassett hound roaming about happily and he would come, rest by your chair with the underside of his mouth resting on your leg. It was adorable.

#203 to #202 - puggles (02/18/2015) [-]
rained here most of the day yesterday. first we've had in about a month and a half. typical for winter. wish we'd get a bit more. the higher humidity helps the pug with her breathing issues.

Nope. Ive had further problems. It now won't go over 10/15 mph if i drive it because it cant get the power and just keeps dying on the road, so its dangerous. Gunna clean the carbs, air line, fuel line, air filter, replace spark plugs, just general things that could help it really.

#182 to #181 - puggles (01/26/2015) [-]
yesterday (sunday) wasn't bad was able to get away with a long tee-shirt under a regular one most of the day. saturday was nasty. temps in the 30's and 40's most of the day with rain heavy winds. but today is supposed to be comfortable again and then tomorrow the temps drop to freezing or near so again. typical florida winters. day or three of decent weather and then a day or so of near/freezing. fun stuff.

everything turn out ok though with drunk guy?
#183 to #182 - mattyjay (01/26/2015) [-]
Ouch. My dad wanted to go to Florida in the winter, promising me it would be hot, unlike last time we went. Fortunately we are going this summer though.

Yeah all was good. I had given him some attitude the day he came in previously, as he did to me, and he came in drunk the next day, fortunately my assistant manager was there with me and he is a bro. All was good, in the end we managed to diffuse the situation.

yeah, it's possible to hit florida in the winter and see a week or more of decent weather but it's always a crapshoot. there's almost no consistency. when the weather decides to change it can be in the low eighties one day and in the thirties the next morning. the disney/seaworld area is usually a few degrees warmer than where i'm at because the sea breeze keeps it a little more humid, but that also makes that area feel colder.

customers who are assholes are the worst. i'm glad that when i worked at the pet store i mainly only did the fish and answered questions about their needs and temperament so i didn't deal with customers unless everyone else was busy helping customers.

Ah I see. I went to Disney and our car was frosty! I am not going to go back to SeaWorld. The cruelty to the Orcas is horrific. The poor things. Now I'm not one for tree hugging and nature loving, but it's just outright cruel how those Orcas are treated.

Anyways, I'd hate to be in the Fish room, customers piss me off, a lot. Always asking dumb questions, and because where I work is surrounded by towns, you get a lot of scummy people come in... This week at work we have to do stock take. If you don't know what it is, we basically have to count each and every item in the whole store... It took me two and a half hours to do a tiny bit of the shop....

i just try to remember that there are 2 sides to every story and while i'd rather they not have the orcas, the organization itself does an amazing amount of rescue/rehab work, especially in our area. i've never seen peta show up to help when someone reports a sick dolphin or injured manatee.

i used to enjoy being a smart ass to the customers when they'd ask amazingly stupid questions. had someone ask me "will my oscar be ok with these guppies?" of course they meant would it get along with them (NO, OBVIOUSLY) but i'd reply, "yeah, i'm pretty sure they wouldn't rough him up too badly."

Fair enough. You never know what is really going on...

That's hilarious. You see our customers phone up and complain and **** so I can't really. If a customer pisses me off, I won't be helpful, just be blunt and stuff.

Would brighten up anyones day...

How've you been man?
#155 to #154 - puggles (04/28/2014) [-]
life's good. working, but not too hard. bought a kayak and have managed to get out on the water at least once a week for a month straight so far. so really can't complain. how about you?
#156 to #155 - mattyjay (04/28/2014) [-]

And me? Not so good pal. Got the GCSEs in 2 weeks, I am ******... I've always tried to try hard at school without becoming a shutout, so I've had my ups and downs, but I'm really not prepared......

Other than that good. Going on first 'parent-less' holiday soon, payed by me after working my ass off in an aquatic store. Summer is coming up, got freedom, money and nothing to worry about for 10 weeks, can focus on getting fit and stuff!

But yeah, depressed as **** right now...

not really familiar with the educational system on your side of the pond. if you don't do as well on your GCSEs as you'd like, is it something that be retaken at a later date with hopes of a higher score, or is it a one time one shot kinda deal?
#158 to #157 - mattyjay (04/28/2014) [-]
One time shot deal. It decides whether I get into specialised areas and stuff. I'm looking to move to Florida in two years and join the military, but I need to get some money and a place to stay for that.

So that depends all on these grades. They expect us to study for TWENTY FOUR non stop exams. That's just unfair, how can I work that hard for three weeks straight?!

Dang. But yeah, that's the plan.
#159 to #158 - puggles (04/28/2014) [-]
fingers crossed and good luck. what brach of the military are you planning on joining?
#160 to #159 - mattyjay (04/28/2014) [-]
Haven't planned that far ahead yet. I really have to go, sorry dude. Will you be around this time tomorrow if I remember?
#161 to #160 - puggles (04/28/2014) [-]
naw. i'm usually on here about 5am my time. no problem though, i'm good with long drawn out one line a day convos.
#162 to #161 - mattyjay (04/28/2014) [-]
That's cool man. I will contact you tomorrow if I remember, see ya man!

i always refer to pugs as puggles, even though a puggle is a term denoting a crossbreed between a beagle and pug, because it's just that much cuter

i hope you do the same
#149 to #148 - puggles (01/19/2014) [-]
i call pugs pugs (or puggy wuggys). mine however, is named princess puggles, and was actually named before the puggle thing went crazy mainstream in the US. in fact, i now have to explain to people the she's a full pug who just happens to be named puggles.
#150 to #149 - FightClub (01/19/2014) [-]
i just call pugs puggles because it's a ******* adorable moniker
#151 to #150 - puggles (01/19/2014) [-]
agree completely that it's adorable. if mine wasnt named puggles id refer to all of them that way.
#152 to #151 - FightClub (01/19/2014) [-]
i was considering naming my future pug puggles, but that would mean i'd have to refer to all pugs as just pugs from now on
#153 to #152 - puggles (01/19/2014) [-]
yeah, it could get quite confusing. like one of those "what is the sound of one hand clapping/ one pug NOT begging for food" meditations.

yeah great man, glad to see you back finally!
#145 to #144 - puggles (11/29/2013) [-]
def glad to be back on line. my little pug's having some health issues that involve only sleeping 2 or 3 hours at a time, so having something to do in the wee hours of the morning definitely helps.
#146 to #145 - mattyjay (11/29/2013) [-]
Oh my god, is he going to be ok?!
#147 to #146 - puggles (11/30/2013) [-]
fingers crossed. it's a breathing problem collapsed trachea. when she's having an attack. she can breathe in ok, but when she tries to breath out her trachea constricts and seriously restricts her breathing so she has to cough at every breath to get the air out. we have her on meds that can hopefully beat it back so that it's just a chronic minor problem instead of something that is as serious as it it is. we're just taking it one day at a time and spending lots of time snuggling and giving her lots of lap time and belly rubs.
