hey i updated glibc kernel bash, everything else important
then restarted all services on all my servers.

think I'm good?

supposedly it was only services that did dns lookups?

none of my **** does that. that would be horrible to run in apache or nginx, slow down everything. i guess only my mail server was vunerable?
User avatar #4665 to #4664 - posttwo (01/30/2015) [-]
I did the same thing
Google and some tests say thats enough so I would assume so.

I had mysqld on the list of services that used glibc *shrug*
User avatar #4666 to #4665 - admin (01/30/2015) [-]
i thought it said nslookups and most **** other than mail and even postfix has disabled by defualt i think?

i didn't restart mysql. i think (but have no proof) google punishes for even SHORT downtime.

but it's local only to my vrack so it shouldn't matter?
User avatar #4667 to #4666 - posttwo (01/30/2015) [-]
the notes in the cve do say that it can only happen when someone supplies a invalid hostname argument to osmething that does dns resolution

So it probably will be fine not to restart sql
User avatar #4668 to #4667 - admin (01/30/2015) [-]
gotcha. in that case i never needed to update.

oh well

look at this:

think of the possibilities

i'm using it to build levels without using any scripts

you can count things like, apple, pear, banana, and use those in place of numbers
it's crazy

what do they pay you at your job?

maybe you can be an fj dev in the future if fj grows, if you want
job would mostly be editing smarty template files and improving ui
User avatar #4636 to #4633 - posttwo (01/27/2015) [-]
~1.5k monthly 10am to 3pm monday - friday

Honestly I would love to do that,
Im not too great with frontend stuff tho, I can modify already existing sites and add to them - with the help of google when doing css. But if I needed to create something from scratch I would be lost.
User avatar #4639 to #4636 - admin (01/27/2015) [-]
on the other hand, you can work an hour, pause odesk tracker, work another hour
and do it from home.
that's how i observe my devs work.

dunno if that appeals to you
User avatar #4640 to #4639 - posttwo (01/27/2015) [-]
That actually sounds pretty good

But before I would start doing any work I would really need to read over all relevant code and understand what it does and how it works
Else it would just feel wrong to do it
User avatar #4642 to #4640 - admin (01/27/2015) [-]
i'm taking into account build-up time to learn code and get good at editing templates
i went through a few devs and don't expect much in the first few months

the main thing is sticking with it long term

you end up installing an FJ developer version on a local RHEL VM and editing it there then merging things with a stable version once you're sure changes work well
User avatar #4643 to #4642 - posttwo (01/27/2015) [-]
That sounds pretty good actually - I would certainly be interested in doing that

Being able to fully test it before pushing it is way better than going blind and hoping it works - which I had to do before for some sites that would only send me the relevant code and nothing more
User avatar #4644 to #4643 - admin (01/27/2015) [-]
going straight to production on site this popular would be insane

would take at least a few weeks of study and messing with the dev verison before one could attempt a live change

i'll keep you in mind after i move locations and if fj keeps growing and coming back to live after it's "dead period" in summer 2014 - to oct server switch
User avatar #4645 to #4644 - posttwo (01/27/2015) [-]
User avatar #4637 to #4636 - admin (01/27/2015) [-]

just being honest though, if your current job is stress free and lets you browse the net all day it's probably not worth switching

i use odesk and only pay devs per hour worked

editing templates and fj code is tedious

i don't want to try and "trick you" into doing more work, even if i could pay you more than your current job
User avatar #4638 to #4637 - posttwo (01/27/2015) [-]
I wouldn't be able to completely switch - being able to put X amount of years as network engineer (or whatever the hell I'm hired as) on your cv in a half government owned company is great for future

But if you ever need someone extra to do some tedious php or template work give me a shout - extra income never hurts
User avatar #4641 to #4638 - admin (01/27/2015) [-]
in the future if i have extra money to throw away i could pay you like $15-$20 to do template work, more after a year if you stick with it and get really good

probably after i move to a cheap place in the USA

or if FJ suddenly takes off in popularity
User avatar #4635 to #4633 - admin (01/27/2015) [-]
actually might not be worth it to you if you don't have to work much at your current job since odesk only pays you for "work" per hour

User avatar #4634 to #4633 - admin (01/27/2015) [-]
actually that's pretty much all the job would be,

ui ui ui ui templates tpl tpl css js

hey mr.mod
a) I heard it was your birthday recently. Happy belated
b) Why are there two "Add a comment" and "Cancel" buttons? Is it intentional or should I be posting this in "Report Bugs"?

It looks intentional
