Pro or con, I don't know, but the fact that burger flippers will be getting paid the same wage as teachers really grinds my gears.

Pros:
Everyone with a minimum wage job gets paid more ergo more money in the economy ie higher Median salary

Cons:
one of two things will happen:
Inflation skyrockets ->Prices increase -The dollar becomes worthless
or
People are laid off by businesses, who can't afford to hire them, like small businesses, creating a surplus of work, but a deficit of money to pay for workers -> making unemployment skyrocket-> creating no job security, if you fuck up once your ass is canned, because if a business is paying $15/hr for trained chimpanzee work, they expect the best -> Depression 2.0

Conclusion: it seems like a good idea but people with no knowledge about the economy see it as a magical solution to all the problems. Minimum wage jobs are for teenagers or people with no experience, if you want a higher paying job go to college get a meaningful degree that has a lot of jobs. or intern or become an apprentice, or go to a trade school. lots of money doesn't come from inexperience and jobs that trained monkeys can do. they come from hard work and training.

"Effects being opposite to those intended" applies to welfare, social security, healthcare and other benefit programs that do not require their recipients to work, or have no limit or cut off for people who have been unemployed for a certain amount of time. If you give things to people without requiring them to work, it'll be an incentive for them not to work. So you're teaching them to be indolent and parasitic and you're hurting the system, the government, the taxpayers and the workers.

But this does not apply to a PROPERLY implemented minimum wage increase that is accompanied by a set of price controls to prevent price gouging which is the rpimary reason for inflation NOT the increase of labor costs for products and services that require minimum wage workers for their production.
#23 - pebar (09/02/2015) [-]
price controls cause shortages. They always have; they always will.
price gouging deals with extreme short run situations (like after a natural disaster) where there is little time for new suppliers to enter the market. But even in the case of price gouging, price controls still create shortages
The biggest component of inflation is the total quantity of money and if you've had even basic high school economics you would know that
Marginal cost of production is an important part of how prices are calculated

you have no idea what you're talking about

Colleges have been price gouging students on education for decades. "Short run?"
User avatar #89 - durkadurka (19 hours ago) [-]
Government and an inflated demand causes the prices to stay high.

It's not a solution its a tongue and cheek response to such a terrifying concept as mandatory medical procedures. You go outside, you take a risk. A balance must be struck between safe living and freedom. In an anarchic state, freedom reigns while life expectancy dwindles. The opposite would be a culture where everyone lives long lives devoid of choice, Im not sure if thats living. It's a terrible precedence, granting legal authority to mandate medical procedures. Thats not to many steps away from eugenics.

Technically, all flags had slavery tied with them at one point or another.
China enslaving Vietnam for example
Or the Romans

I really don't care about the confederate flag that much, it's within people's rights to fly whatever symbol in the air they want to fly. I just disagree with the comparison to the rainbow flag here and think it's an unfair link
User avatar #85 - sketchE (08/28/2015) [-]
the US flag is just as much about slavery as the confederate flag. seeing as the US had slaves for much longer than the CS. the meanings of things change.
User avatar #86 - pleebnutbubber (08/28/2015) [-]
A key reason for the divide that caused the civil war was the debate about slavery.

The confederates were the side that supported slavery and racism. It's not the only message of that flag, but its certainly a major component.

My anger here was more specifically aimed at the comparison between the rainbow flag and the confederate flag, because that's just not a fair comparison in this situation.
The ideology behind the rainbow flag does not imply that gays are superior or that they should be "above" straight people in society. The confederate flag, once upon a time, VERY much stood for that kind of discrimination and violence.

I don't like smartphones specifically, they cause problems. Tablets and computers are fine though.
