I SAID....

User avatar #188 - lolollo (12/03/2013) [-]
What's more is I know you're going to just say TL;DR, or think about saying TL;DR, but I'll know you've read this. I know because I've done what you're doing now. You do it to waste time, and you'll be curious that someone wrote a wall of text in response to your obvious trolling. "What could I possibly say that takes up that much room that would convince you to feel stupid or stop trolling?!" You won't know until you read it...so you will...

Take care.
User avatar #187 - lolollo (12/03/2013) [-]
I'm not entirely sure why you are continuing to hold this ridiculous mindset for the sake of getting red thumbs, considering it doesn't really pose any tangible benefit to you. The only reason I could think is that you're trying to play off the "i'm trolling you" front to hide the fact that you made a completely retarded statement for your initial comment, and aren't man enough to admit that you were wrong. If you really are just trolling, well to be honest you're not really causing the sort of inconvenience you think you are. We can tell you're trolling at this point, which makes continuing the trend pretty pointless, since we know not to get worked up over your retarded comments, and googling "Bill Nye + Sundial" isn't as much of a pain as you think it is. Right now, you're more creating a service, since the people on this site are here to waste time, and you've broken up the monotony of just clicking next by giving me an outlet to do other things.

Like even now, I'm not really angry writing this comment, and wouldn't be angry if you just posted TL;DR to make it seem like I wasted my time, since wasting time is precisely the purpose of responding to your nonsense. So really there is no benefit to your actions since any benefit you think you're getting is just an illusion. Everyone knows the purpose of a troll, and knows not to devote any emotional stake in what you say or do, and any actual action we take a against you is just to pose a benefit in ourselves, since it's just going to waste the time we intended to waste on this site, and even make us feel better about ourselves because we're going to think we're better than you.

Your white username suggests you're new here, so I'll give you insight into the thumbing system. It's trivial as hell. Yes, it's the cyber currency of the site but people are more foregoing with their thumbs than a politician with his opinions. Yes you have a lot of negative thumbs, but it works like a positive feedback loop. The first 10 to 15 people who thumbed you down are the ones who really got worked up over your comments, the rest just thumbed you down simply because you were thumbed down already.

Besides, I said "At this point." At first, it was 50/50 whether you were trolling, or serious, which is why those 10-15 people thumbed you down. Now, it's more 90/10 in favor of you just trolling. You'll notice I haven't thumbed you down at all. I can't speak for everyone else responding to your comments, and you're willing to sift through the "Who thumbed you" list all you want, but chances are people are more using the opportunity to reply to you as a time waster.

Most of the time, when I get in this sort of conversation with an obvious troll, I start to just post reaction pics from my reaction folder, and say nothing else. Half of the time, you get annoyed and go away, which is a win for me, and the other half of the time, you become a more pleasant individual just from the pleasant nature of the reaction pics, which is also a win. It's really a more benevolent system than you think, it just depends on how you take it.

Well it did work, I'm not saying it didn't, I'm simply saying that it's work was short lived. I prefer longer trolls that reverberate even after it's done, but again that's just my personal preference.
#208 - lolollo (12/03/2013) [-]
Typically I nudge the bait, just in case you aren't trolling, which was my initial reply with the link, but now it seems kinda obvious. I was just wanting to point that out to you. Also I don't really blame people for trolling, it's just that there needs to be an art of subtlety to it for it to do maximum damage. Like if your point of your troll was just to get people really pissed off, and then feel silly that they fell for the obvious troll, it did it's job, but the level of subtlety will keep the issue of questioning your intentions in the back of their minds, and lasts longer. Like subtlety means the difference between constantly asking for more sources no matter how many people give you, and going through each source that's given to point out some retardedly false flaw in the article, like "The website isn't reliable enough for me to believe it" or "Those results are inconclusive because *something stupid*". It takes more commitment, but the effects last longer.
User avatar #216 - whydoesthishappen (12/03/2013) [-]
i definitely get what you mean with your method to longer lasting effect because i've used that method before when attacking marijuana on a marijuana post. but in that case, I got thumbed up. it was either already apparent that I was trolling beforehand or my comments about the sources weren't convincing enough. but in this case, it doesn't matter because I decided to be an annoying fuck, asking for more and more citation, and i got exactly what i wanted.

Like subtlety means the difference between constantly asking for more sources no matter how many people give you, and going through each source that's given to point out some retardedly false flaw in the article, like "The website isn't reliable enough for me to believe it" or "Those results are inconclusive because *something stupid*". It takes more commitment, but the effects last longer.

i definitely get what you mean with your method to longer lasting effect because i've used that method before when attacking marijuana on a marijuana post. but in that case, I got thumbed up. it was either already apparent that I was trolling beforehand or my comments about the sources weren't convincing enough. but in this case, it doesn't matter because I decided to be an annoying fuck, asking for more and more citation, and i got exactly what i wanted.
