I don't have to keep in mind.

It's not my car.

You have to keep in mind that going top speed on a straight track is not going to be any different than reaching it on a oval track, it's not going to change the fact you wont have a spoiler and the ground clearance.

Physics don't change because you're going in a straight line.

You ever been on an oval track? Like walked on the turns? They're gradual and banked.

I am fully aware of the limitations of the Dyno systems.

You said top speed, not top speed on the road.

And the top speed the manufacturers give you is a rounded number. Performance can differ as you know. Only way you can truly find out the top speed of your car is to take it to a track.

User avatar #74774 - phanact (12/20/2014) [-]
solely curious
if my redline is at 6500 RPM, that means the tires are spinning 6.5 times a second at a 1:1 gear ratio at redline.
however my 4th gear has a 1:.71 ratio meaning the engine turns .71 times per wheelspin
with a 78 inch tire circumfrence, that means that I'm spinning my tires at a 1:1 ratio 507 inches a second, which is 42.25 feet per scond
that's 28.8 mph
that cannot be correct at a 1:1 ratio

so now its 78 inches and somehow with those numbers i got 245 mph
so im wrong on my math somewhere

User avatar #74779 - inudewaruika (12/20/2014) [-]
I am fully aware of the limitations of the Dyno systems.

You said top speed, not top speed on the road.

And the top speed the manufacturers give you is a rounded number. Performance can differ as you know. Only way you can truly find out the top speed of your car is to take it to a track.
User avatar #74780 - phanact (12/20/2014) [-]
And where in the united states is there a track with more than 3 straight miles to gun it? At 2.4 straight miles of gunning it, I run out of road to work with at about 119
User avatar #74783 - inudewaruika (12/20/2014) [-]
You do realize that race tracks are made to allow top speeds, right? The turns are made for high speeds, if you go to a oval track that is.

User avatar #74784 - phanact (12/20/2014) [-]

User avatar #74788 - inudewaruika (12/20/2014) [-]
I don't have to keep in mind.

It's not my car.

You have to keep in mind that going top speed on a straight track is not going to be any different than reaching it on a oval track, it's not going to change the fact you wont have a spoiler and the ground clearance.

User avatar #74766 - wigglyjr (12/20/2014) [-]
Is it really that important anyway?

#74777 - wigglyjr (12/20/2014) [-]
Sorry, I ain't doin' that math for ya. My last math class was Tuesday.; I ain't gettin' back into that.
User avatar #74778 - phanact (12/20/2014) [-]
well im trying to think where I go wrong
somewhere I go wrong and I'm either really high or really low
28.8 is not my top speed
netiher is 245.5
User avatar #74781 - wigglyjr (12/20/2014) [-]
I dunno. Wouldn't the RPM be 108 revolutions per second? I'm not a car person.
User avatar #74785 - phanact (12/20/2014) [-]
Whered u come up with that number
User avatar #74786 - wigglyjr (12/20/2014) [-]
I just divided the RPM by sixty. Don't expect much from me at this time; I'm sleepy.
User avatar #74789 - phanact (12/20/2014) [-]
wait
thats a good point
so 108 revs per second of the engine, at a 1:.71 ratio on 78 inch tires
okay
so hold on
its coming together
#74790 - wigglyjr (12/20/2014) [-]
Alright. You work on that while I go to sleep. See you tomorrow.
User avatar #74791 - phanact (12/20/2014) [-]
ok ill be done in a sec
noot
User avatar #74792 - phanact (12/20/2014) [-]
so that's 152.1 times of wheelspin a second
Yeah no that's not right eithercuz I got 988 feet a second
Yeah that would mean one mile in 5 seconds
and a mile in 30 seconds is 120mph
so that would mean id be going 720 mph which isnt correct
