Why not just put like spots where people can leave items at the end of the aisle, so no one has to just shove an item in a random spot.
People are going to decide they want to ditch shit, and they're not going to walk all the way back to were it belongs, especially if the store is jam packed with assholes who block tight spaces with their carts.

Except it says something about workers having to scour the store for left items, implying you're still shopping when you decide you don't want the item and just leave it wherever you happen to be.

I work in a supermarket and people do it all the time and it's fucking annoying as hell - see something they decide they want instead of whatever they picked up a minute ago, and just swap it instead of putting the original thing back where they got it from. Cunts.
